want to view live video in H.264 or MPEG4.

The following table lists the video resolutions supported by the Nextiva S1800e series multi-portencoders.

The following table lists the performance that each video encoder on the Nextiva S1800e seriesencoders can achieve with the H.264 compression mode using single-stream encoding. Connecting a Serial Device

    www.verint.com/video_solutions38

    Connecting a Serial Device

This section explains how to connect a RS-232, RS-422 (4-wire) or RS-485 (2-wire or 4-wire)serial device to the S1800 series device.

RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 are communication standards between a Data Terminal Equipment

(DTE) and a Data Circuit-terminating Equipment (DCE) using the asynchronous serialcommunication method.

Most serial equipments such as PTZ cameras, keyboards, matrixs, multiplexers, or access cardsconform to the RS-232 or RS-422/485 standards. The S1800e series devices supports the RS-232, RS-422, and RS-485 asynchronous protocols using pluggable screw-terminal strips. For anyother protocol, you may need a converter.

NOTE: The S1800e series devices come with a terminal block plug to attach RS-232, RS-422/485 devices to the S1800e series.

Connecting RS-232 DevicesThe RS-232 standard is used in some analog cameras and computer serial ports. Beforeconnecting the S1800e series device to a RS-232 serial equipment, you need to determine if theyare DTE (data terminal equipment) or DCE (data communication equipment).

When connecting two modules of the same type, you have to cross the data wires to create acommunication. On the other hand, when connecting a DTE with a DCE, a straight cable isrequired.

Obtaining and Setting the IP Address

By default, all S1800e series devices are DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) enabled. If you have a DHCP server, the device will automatically obtain a valid IP configuration. If theDHCP configuration fails, the device assigns itself a temporary IP address based on the APIPA

(Automatic Private IP Addressing) addressing format.

NOTE: If you plan on using the S1800e series devices with the Nextiva video managementsoftware, you need to disable the DHCP setting and manually set an IP address for thedevice. For information on manually setting the IP address, see the procedure To setthe IP address of the device manually using SConfigurator: on page 61.

The APIPA (Automatic Private IP Addressing) scheme, available on the Windows operatingsystems, allows a device to assign itself a temporary IP address until it receives a completenetwork configuration, either manually or from a DHCP server.

A device in APIPA mode does not reside on the same subnet as the other devices on the IPnetwork. Therefore, it may not be able to view or be visible by the other devices. All Nextiva edge

devices use the following temporary APIPA configuration:

IP address: 169.254.X.Y (where X and Y are based on the last two octets of the MAC

    address of the device)

    Subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

    Gateway: 169.254. *. *

To obtain the IP address of the S1800e series device using SConfigurator:

    1. Download the latest version of SConfigurator from:www.verint.com/manuals.

    2. Extract the executable file (SConfigurator.exe) to the desktop of the computer.

    3. Double-click SConfigurator.exeto start SConfigurator.4. In the Generaltab, click Program Options.
