President called meeting to order at 7:05pm. Welcomed members and guests to the general meeting. Jay then stated that we are having a special silent auction at the back of the room to raise money to buy a few new saws. June 1 is the Rock Swap.
Program Sudarshan introduced our speaker, Diane Brownlee. She had a very interesting presentation on “The New Geology Timeline”, describing the first 4500 Million Years on Earth.
Officer Reports 1st VP (Programs), Sudarshan Singh
The Arkenstone Field Trip was a blast. Everyone had a good time. The June speaker will be Andy Nethery. He will speak on "Fossils and Shark Teeth". Members may bring fossils for him to identify. The July speaker will be Jeff Starr from Arkenstone.
2nd VP (Lapidary Shop), Norm Cover / Joy Harrison We are going to scrap some saws to use parts for others. Got good advice from Highland Park. Also, Highland Park deals with Lortone parts as well. We will probably auction off one or two trim saws. We will buy a 14” Highland Park saw. HP will have Laguna Lace at the upcoming International Agate Symposium in Austin on June 5-8. We are also going to buy a Keurig for the Shop.
Treasurer, Diana Case Money is coming in from the Show Vendors. At the end of June, we will start looking at our Waiting List for the Show and may add a few more vendors. The Show costs around 15-20K. We might order more Club T-Shirts to sell. We are finalizing preparations for our DGMS Display, “Texas Rocks, Fossils and Minerals”, at the North Oak Cliff Library.
