Introduction This document explains how to install the Excel Addin for use on computers running Microsoft Windows

and Microsoft Office, notably Excel.

There are separate documents available on our support page for information on how to create queries

and dashboards. This document focuses mainly on download, setup, and registration both as a free

trialler as well as when you have purchased and wish to enter your Subscription Code.

There are some sections at the end which help with issues relating to proxies and firewalls. It also has

topics on how to un-subscribe, and how to transfer your license to another computer.

Preparation If you are upgrading from a previous release, then please use the Windows Control Panel -> Programs ->

Uninstall Programs to remove old versions of NEXTANALYTICS software.

Please reboot your computer to ensure pending Windows Updates have been fully processed.

Download the setup software onto your computer Click this link:

If you have trouble downloading, or the setup doesn’t complete, please review the sections that follow in this document about Proxies and Firewalls.

Run the Setup Program When you run setup, if you are prompted to choose Administrator mode, please choose Yes.

You will see Microsoft dialog boxes asking to accept the end user license agreement with Microsoft.

If you are prompted to restart, click ‘Yes’ to proceed in the dialogue box that appears. After the re-boot,

setup will automatically re-commence. If not, double-click the setup program that you downloaded.You

will prompted to install the addin, as follows:

Start Excel

Find NEXT Analytics on the Ribbon Bar.

If you encounter a communications error, especially if it mentions the word Proxy, then please read the

section on Proxy Servers. After doing that step, come back to this point and continue.

Enter an Email ID. You will be sent a free-trial authorization code and occasional newsletters. You can

unsubscribe at any time.

Get the code from your email inbox.

Once you have the code from your inbox, paste it where it says “CONFIRMATION CODE” (below):

The following dialog box appears.

You are now done, registering for a free trial.

If you are learning the product, you can get more information from the relevant documents from our

support page, online at: http://www.nextanalytics.com/support-self-help/. Expand the section labelled

“Excel Addin for Windows”.

After you make a purchase You will receive an email that resembles this from the eCommerce company. The line’s highlighted in

yellow is important information. You should select and copy that.

Start the Excel Addin and click the Subscription button:

The part in yellow should be inserted into the Subscription tab, where it’s also highlighted in yellow.

How to Un-subscribe

The email that you received from the eCommerce provider has a link to unsubscribe.

When you purchased, you were asked for an email id. This email id will receive an email message that

looks like the following image. This email has a list of license codes, (items circled in red, below).

Use the Subscriptions Dialog box to enter the code.

How to Change the License to a new Computer Each license code can be used on a single computer. The “Computers” tab on the Subscription dialog

box lets you transfer the license to another computer.

The first step is to install a Free Trial on the new computer.

After getting the trial, switch to the “Computers” tab.

Use the Remove button on that tab to remove the computer which no longer needs to have the license.

Then you can add the new computer, using the Add button.

How It Works On Your Computer (Background Notes) NEXT Analytics is a software product that you install on your computer. Indeed, it runs inside of

Microsoft Excel as an “Excel COM Addin.”

After you have downloaded and run the setup program, then started Excel, the first thing you’ll do is to

use the Subscription Button. After asking for and validating an email ID, this allocates a Free Trial for you

at cloud.nextanalytics.com. This is a server that runs and is accessible when you have an internet

connection. It is hosted by Microsoft as part of its Azure service. This Azure computer service is only

used for license management. Your data is not stored there.

After you have a Free Trial, you can enter a Subscription Code, if you’ve made a purchase. If you don’t

do this, your data will be limited and altered in some ways. Repeat free trials are detected and in some

cases prevented.

When you choose one of the data services, it connects to the relevant server, for example at

google.com, facebook.com, or twitter.com. To be clear, it is YOUR OWN COMPUTER that connects to

these services. Your request is sent to them, and they return raw data, it’s parsed and processed by the

software on your own computer, and presented to you. This sequence of events applies both the Excel

Addin, as well as a separate program named “nxacmd.exe” (See following section “Using Windows Task

Scheduler and NEXTANALYTICS”).

In order for the exchange to work, your proxy server needs to be configured (see below), and your

Firewalls have to give permission to access a list of sites (see below). If the Firewall software makes it

difficult for thesetup program, because it accesses files at Microsoft, you can get the files manually using

the information in section below Offline Installer.

Proxy Servers Some environments require your software to assign parameter values, before that software can access

the internet.

If you are having trouble connecting to the internet with NEXT Analytics, Invoke the Subscriptions Dialog

box (on the Ribbon Bar). And switch the tab page labelled “Your Proxy”.

The values will be assigned to you by your company’s network administrator. Enter and save them here,

which will allow you to continue with the process of requesting a free trial.

Firewall Issues The setup program will attempt to install Microsoft .NET pre-requisites if they are not already on your system. If they are, Windows administrator rights are required. You may be prompted to restart your computer.

In some corporate environments with tight IT controls, sometimes the setup has trouble downloading the Pre-requisite files from microsoft.com. If this is the case for you, they can be downloaded separately. You need administrative permission to install Microsoft .NET pre-requisites.

Offline Installer If your firewall or proxy server does not allow the setup to run, you can use our Offline Installer.

Download the following file:

Right-Mouse click and run as administrator, the file: NextAnalyticsForExcelAddIn.vsto

Using Windows Task Scheduler and NEXTANALYTICS The Windows Task Scheduler, in conjunction with a program that we provide named nxacmd.exe, can

Nxacmd.exe is not an Excel Addin, but it does run on your computer, under your control.
