User Guide Overview

© 2014 Imagine Communications Corp. Proprietary and Confidential. November 2014 | Page 4

Overview The Nexio® NLE Gateway integrates non-linear editing (NLE) software applications with the Nexio server system. The following applications are supported:

For Apple Mac

Apple Final Cut Pro 7 (FCP7)

Apple Final Cut Pro X (FCPX)

Adobe Premiere Pro

For Windows PC

Adobe Premiere Pro

The NLE Gateway is built on the Nexio® NX1011 hardware platform. It is pre-installed with the Nexio CIFServer software.

The Nexio NLE Gateway allows you to edit content directly on the Nexio SAN. A CIFS implementation facilitates the bridge between the fibre channel SAN and workstations running the NLE editing software. The CIFServer application displays a filtered list of supported content on the Nexio SAN and allows you to edit that content directly without needing to copy clips to and from local storage.

The Nexio NLE Gateway presents the Nexio SAN to the NLE editing software as though it were a network file share. From the NLE client workstations, you can use Nexio software plug-ins (Nexio Browser for Mac and Nexio Player for Windows) to locate clips on the SAN by connecting through the Nexio NLE Gateway.

Nexio Browser or Player software allows you to use the Nexio MediaBase. In addition to powerful filter, search, and sort utilities, MediaBase allows you to manipulate your clips' metadata. It also allows you to quickly review content and place it into the NLE by linking, not by copying.

Once your content is in the NLE, the full feature set of the NLE is available for editing. Your edited clips are turned into new high-res IDs by rendering flattened files that are exported to the Nexio SAN. Nexio Export software is used to identify ID name, select from ID placeholders, and set critical metadata fields. Nexio Export uses a pre-established connection back to the NLE Gateway so edited media can be efficiently written back to the Nexio SAN.

Exports modes utilize either writing back to the CIFS Server via the CIFS share or to the FTP Server. CIFS Server is the typical method for export. However, FTP allows Windows systems and other systems without access to the CIFS Server the ability to export using an integrated Nexio plug-in.
