Scholarships for International Students

Generally, there are two kinds of scholarship; some require the nomination of WBS, andthe others don’t. The application methods are different, and information are providedthrough different channel as well.

Nomination-Required Scholarship Provider of these scholarships could be university, Japanese government, NGOS or

private companies. Instead of publicly recruiting candidates, request of studentnomination will directly be sent to the WBS from the provider.

Whenever the WBS receives a request, we will select nominees from our candidate listand contact them directly. In order to become a candidate, you are required tocomplete an on-line application from the link below by Sunday, September 27th.https://www.waseda.jp/fcom/wbs/en/applicants/tuition

Most scholarships provided to international students require the recipient to hold“College Student” residence status. If you are holding a different residence status, youwill not be regarded as potential candidates for these scholarships.

The on-line application is valid within a single academic year, which starts from April toMarch the next year. To remain on the candidate list, you need to complete theapplication once an academic year.

Publicly-Recruited Scholarship

These scholarships are usually provided by private companies or organizations outsideof the university. Information that the university received will be posted on thebulletin board outside of the WBS main office on 3F, Bldg. 11.

To apply, simply following the instructions on the poster or the scholarship providers’webpage and apply directly. Information of scholarship exclusively provided forinternational students will be in yellow posters. White posters are scholarship only forJapanese students or for all students, please make sure to confirm through the content.

In most cases, information on the poster are in Japanese language only. This is usuallybecause the provider is a Japanese organization, and applicants with certain level ofJapanese proficiency are preferred(partly because the application form must bewritten in Japanese or the interview is conducted in Japanese).

In the case that a recommendation letter is required upon application, usually studentswill ask for help from their supervisors. If the scholarship provider has other specificrequirement, please feel free to consult with the WBS office.
