Christmas Break December 21—January 3
Construction on the outdoor classroom has begun.
On November 6, 2009,
Mrs. Mincher’s 6th hour
literature class read the
book then went to see
Christmas Carol at Cin-
ema 8 in Shawnee.
When they we’re leaving
Northwood, Mrs.
Mincher checked to see
if everybody was there.
She yelled, “Where is
Isaiah?” So the bus
came back to North-
wood. The pulled into
the Cinema 8 parking lot
with all students. They
went into the theater and
got their 3-D glasses,
popcorn, and drink.
Then the students went to
find their seats. As they
were watching the pre-
views some students
reached for the screen
because it looked like
you could grab it. Then
as they were watching
the movie it felt like you
we’re flying with the
characters. The students
said it was an awesome
movie. The students
loaded the bus to return
to Northwood. Mrs.
Mincher counted the stu-
dents again. They were
missing someone. Josh
Beauford yelled, “We’re
missing Adam”. The bus
turned around and we
saw Adam Choate wav-
ing his hands in the park-
ing lot. They got him
and the bus went back to
Northwood.
Our school recently
hosted a Geography Bee.
Students answered Social
Studies questions. Over
125 students participated
in the contest. There
were two winners in
each grade level. 4th
grade winners were
Frankie Duran and Des-
tiny Tiger, 5th grade win-
ners were Logan Stan-
berry and Zachary
Kelough, 6th grade win-
ners were Jesse Wood
and Ethan Pollard. Here
at Northwood, we are
all so proud of our par-
ticipants and our win-
ners. Let’s all cheer for
our school wide winner
who was Jesse Wood
and our runner up who
was Ethan Pollard. Jesse
Wood will take a
written test which will
be sent in to the state
level competition. Good
luck!
Special thanks to Mrs.
Nansel for being our
Moderator.

BULLYING SK IT BY KARLI HAMMODN
On Mondays in the after-
noon, every couple of
weeks, there is a bully skit.
The reason we are having
the skit is because Mrs.
Craig thinks that bullying is
a big problem in a lot of
schools. There are girls
that do the skit and there is
going to be boys. The boys
names haven’t been re-
leased but the girls are Ja-
cey James, Madison
Withrow, Jacie Satawake,
Hannah Shumaker, and
Karli Hammond. The kids
all make the skit up as a
group. Mrs. Craig wants to
have them for the rest of
the year, so there will
probably be several more.
The skits are just going to
be about bullying. Mrs.
Willis and Mrs. Craig came
up with the idea of having
the skits. They are going
to expand size of the group
depending on the situation.
The skits are fun to watch.
We hope to have success-
fulness with them.

MOVIE TRIP
BY CORY PARSONS Gingerbread Houses
By Chlo’e White
Each of the gingerbread houses
are unique. Of the 110 houses,
not one wasn’t awesome. The
gingerbread houses are built year
after year because it is a North-
wood holiday tradition. The
house making is held for 5th
graders. Gingerbread houses
were made on November 23rd
and 24th. The Gingerbread
houses were made of graham
crackers, icing and candy for
decorations. They’re built on a
foam plate for a thick layer of
foundation icing. They are con-
structed by “cementing” the cor-
ners of the crackers together
until the shape of your house is
finished. When that is done, you
put graham in the center to sup-
port your roof. Then lay enough
crackers across the top of your
house. Next, shape your crack-
ers in the shape you want the
roof to be. Then add your whole
graham across your two shaped
grahams. Ice them together and
let dry. Finally, decorate your
house! To decorate, ice your
candy on one side and stick it on
your house. You can use marsh-
mallows and pretzels for snow-
men, ice cream cones and icing
for Christmas trees. And with
that, you can have an awesome
house!
In memory of Mrs. Sherry
Chambless, Northwood
has decided to build an
outdoor classroom. To
raise money, we had a
penny drive, sold beef
sticks, popcorn and ac-
cepted donations. The
construction started at
the end of November and
should be completed
sometime in 2010. The
purpose of the outdoor
classroom is to have a
place to learn outside. It
will be available to all
grades. Keith Shaw and
Mike Downey are helping
with the construction.
Hopefully, we will all be
able to use the classroom
in the spring of 2010.
Northwood student s ’
Christmas Break is from
December 21st to January
4th. It is two weeks long.
This Christmas Break means
students are half -way
through the school year.
There are only eighteen
weeks of school after
Christmas Break.
The Christmas parties and
movie “Princess and the
Frog” will be on December
18th, the last day of school.
The parties will be in the
grade hallways. The moms,
dads and teachers will do
the parties. So, have a good
Christmas Break! Have fun!
Be good! And hope you get
presents.

4TH GRADE NUTRIT ION
CLASS BY KARL IE SNEED
Every month once a month,
the whole 4th grade has
nutrition class. The teacher,
Pam Megehee shows us in-
formation about nutrition
facts. For example, she once
showed the fourth grade
how to look for the white
box on items to see how
much sugar, how much calo-
ries and to show all the
things and how much are in
them. The time we usually
have the class is between
just a little of homeroom
and all of activity. Another
example is to show you how
your digestive system works.
We are really thankful for
her to come and tell us to
stay healthy.

School Fundraisers
By Ethan Pollard
Three fundraisers have
happened here at North-
wood. Chocolate bars,
popcorn and beef sticks
are the three fundraisers.
First the chocolate bar
fundraiser: Mrs. Willis
is in charge of this one.
It started on November
3. It is for educational
purposes. We have col-
lected a lot of money
from all the kids who
have sold them. Next,
there is the popcorn
fundraiser. This on is
still going on for the
whole year. This one
also has Mrs. Willis in
charge of it. All this
money is going to go to
the outdoor classroom
for Mrs. Chambless.
And finally, we have the
beef stick fundraiser.
This time Mrs. Winrow
is in charge of it. And
this is also happening
now, too, it’s going on
for the whole first se-
mester. And, as it has
gone before, the money
is going to special
Olympics. Again we
would like to thank eve-
ryone who has par-
ticipated, in
charge, and who
has bought these
fundraiser items.
The Christmas Pro-
gram
By Julianne Zehren
Northwood is prepar-
ing for the Christmas
Program. Ms. Niles
has been getting stu-
dents ready. One per-
son will be singing a
solo. Eight people
have speaking parts.
Everyone will be
singing together.
There are eight songs
plus a bonus song.
Students are really
trying to learn songs
and speaking parts.
Ms. Niles has picked
people that she thinks
are good to sit in
chairs. Being in a
chair is a privilege.
Northwood hopes for
this program to be
really good. Parents ,
teachers and students
are looking forward
to it! It will be De-
cember 17th at 1:30
p.m.

Canned Food Drive
By Kason Clark We just had our canned
food drive from November
1st to November 20th.
Mrs. Stuteville won out of
all the 4th, 5th, and 6th
grades by ending up with
568 cans in all. Her class
did an OU and OSU con-
test. They both brought a
lot of cans but OSU ended
up winning by 10 cans. In
5th grade Mrs. Temple-
man’s class won and in 6th
grade Mr. Rothrock’s class
won. Many kids partici-
pated in this community
service. We did a great job
because we got over 1,000
cans. This is also the most
we ever had here at North-
wood. These cans will
help many people. Every-
body did a great job. I’m
sure many people will be
thankful for what each on
of your kids did.
The veteran’s Day Pro-
gram took place on
November 11, 2009. It
was a huge success.
Ms. Niles was the in-
structor for the pro-
gram. The program took place in honor of
our Veterans who
served for our Nation.
Ms. Niles told us to try
to wear red, white and
blue colors and it
worked! 4th, 5th, and
6th grade participated.
There were a little over
100 parents and visitors
that attended the pro-
gram! WOW! Most
4th grade students liked
the song “American
Tears”. Roslynn Friend
and Mrs. Lloyd said their favorite part of
the program was when
Karlie Sneed sang her
solo. Good Job and
Congratulations to Mrs.
Niles and Northwood
students for doing such
a good job.
the class the students
loaded up and went
home after a good day.
They were able to go
because of an OKC
Zoofriends Grant.
On Wednesday Octo-
ber 28th Talent Pool
went to the Oklahoma
City Zoo. There they
saw animals of all kinds.
After looking and then
eating a sack-lunch they went into a building to
see a class. The class
was about advantages
and disadvantages of
animals. The class in-
cluded three live ani-
mals. The first was a
very small armadillo
that could curl up into a
ball. The second was a
long green boa python.
The last was an owl
that the zoo rescued
from a car wreck. At
the end of the class the
students were able to
touch a cheetah skin
and the python. After
