Exploring Space ITAR ReformThe International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which govern transfers of spacetechnologies to foreign persons, have been widely criticized as counter-productive. The lastyear has seen a flurry of studies suggesting that, by controlling too much too tightly, theITAR is unintentionally driving innovation in space technologies overseas and thusundermining American leadership in space rather than protecting it.What is the right balance between openness and control? How can we limit the proliferationof truly sensitive technologies while ensuring that America regains its leadership ininnovation? Which technologies should be controlled by the ITAR? How could the ITAR bemade to work better, especially for entrepreneurial companies?James Muncy (Session Chair) – Co-Founder, Space Frontier Foundation, President,PoliSpaceMike Gold – Corporate Counsel, Bigelow AerospaceFranceska O. This is the identical weightless flightexperience used by NASA to train its astronauts and usedby Ron Howard and Tom Hanks to film Apollo-13. TheZero-G Experience consists of a brief training session forpassengers followed by a 90-minute flight aboard G-Force-One, during which parabolic maneuvers are performed. Thecontrolled ascent and descent of the plane allows Flyers toexperience Martian gravity (1/3-gravity), Lunar gravity(1/6-gravity), and zero gravity. The Zero-G Experience

Through revenuesgenerated from the sale of their books Robert and Richard have donated funds to an asteroid impactresearch project called The Watch, which led to Apogee Books sponsoring a U.S. Senate round-tableon the subject of catastrophic impacts. The round-table raised political awareness on the subject andassisted in more long-term funding for asteroid research.

In 2008 Robert continues to work closely with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration andspends his time editing and writing.
