Outdoor collection debut in Paris.

This autumn, B&B Italia Outdoor presents its new

products for 2010 at the Parisian trade show

par excellence for both the B&B Italia and

Maxalto brands, will join rank with other illustrious

names including Patricia Urquiola, Jean-Marie

Massaud, Naoto Fukasawa, Atelier Oï and

Richard Schultz. Three years after its debut,

the Outdoor collection has grown to become a

major player in the outdoor furnishings market

and enjoys a wealth of consistent introductions

The Bend Sofa, which launched at the Salone

Del Mobile in 2010, is B&B Italia’s 1000th

project. Designed by Patricia Urquiola, who

recalls its creation as a seat with “a primary,

monolithic shape which gives the impression

of having been manually moulded. “The Bend

Sofa, was initially meant to be a bench, a highly

simplified sofa, partly handmade and partly 3D.”

The well-priced sofa has been designed for

both domestic and contract use. It is born of an

internal polyurethane frame that “has done away

with matter and is also energy saving.”

Additional sketches, photos and renderings are available.

In practice, it issues from a study of 3D models

and digital research, and effectively expresses

the idea of motion by alternating full and empty

spaces. Contrasting stitching creates an

additional motif on the surface, characterised

by the irregular back and curved seat elements.

Like much of the Spanish designer’s work, the

Bend Sofa offers an emotional, reassuring,

tactile experience. A variety of modular

elements, including seats, ottomans and

corner components, allow the Bend sofa to be

customised to suit individual needs and the size

of the space.

MAXALTO STORE TOKYO

The first Maxalto flagship store opened in Minato-ku Tokyo on April 29, 2010. The new space, which stretches over 140 m2, is situated on the ground floor of the same building in which the B&B Italia store has been based since 2005. The new space is entirely dedicated to Maxalto, the company’s “modern classic” furnishings.

DESIGNER’ S DAYS - Paris, June 9-14, 2010

The Parisian stores of B&B Italia and Maxalto

creatively interpreted the theme of the event

“Dis moi dix” for the 10th anniversary of the

Designer’s Days.

The B&B Italia Store, which opened last April,

was carefully fitted out by architect and designer

Philippe Boisselier. The theme of Number

10 has been interpreted through ten highly

suggestive scenes that evoke five days and five

nights in an ephemeral B&B Italia hotel. The

suggestive settings draw out the remarkable

versatility of B&B Italia furnishings that ideally

merge into both domestic and contract

frameworks.

The Maxalto Store setting, which was created

by the designer Marie Christine Dorner,

offered a retrospective of the past ten years of

Maxalto creations. A highly suggestive track

organised around ten scenes - one per year

from 2001 to 2010 - focused on ten interiors

from the Maxalto collection chosen to represent

a significant event of the same year.

B&B Italia Contract Division

B&B Italia’s Contract Division knows no limits,

in both the geographical sense, given the

international scope of its projects, and in terms

of operating areas ranging from residential

complexes to cruise ships, from head offices to

hotels and resorts.

The Romanos - The Westin Costa Navarino

One of the latest projects, implemented with

the Starwood Hotels & Resorts Group, was

the construction of 800 units ready for use,

including rooms, suites and presidential villas for

two exclusive resorts in Costa Navarino, Greece:

The Romanos Resort and The Westin Resort.

Besides the custom-made interiors designed

by the London-based firm MKV Design, we

find products from the B&B Italia and B&B Italia

Outdoor collections.
