Well it looks like 2018 is a wrap! How did that happen so quickly? We hope that all of you enjoyed a wonderful

holiday season and are feeling optimistic about the new year ahead! We’re feeling very enthusiastic about 2019 and have some exciting news to share.

For starters, we have added yet another family member to the team. My daughter, Greer Shull, agreed to leave the Bay Area and come on board at Fespar as our Digital Marketing Coordinator for the Wine Country Inn, the Bear and Star and the winery as well. She will be managing all of our social media, supporting our marketing team at large and representing the family at tastings and special events.

In other news, some much needed change is in store for the main tasting here at the winery in the wake of recent upgrades to the barrel room and terrace. After 30 years we’re planning renovations to the bathrooms, updating the general look and exploring new seating options. It may take a little time, so be patient with us; we want to get it right.

As this is our 30th anniversary year, we will be hosting numerous events here at the winery and all over the country. Be sure to follow us on Instagram @fessparkerwinery for all the latest.

Wine Club MeMbers

Adelle is the latest team member to pass the Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory Certification which provides wine and hospitality professionals with a thorough

review of the world of wines and spirits at the highest professional standards. We are proud to now have 6 team members on staff who have earned their Introductory Certification.

James is the second member of the winery team to pass the Certified Sommelier Examination. This rigorous exam tests the candidates proficiency as a beverage professional, in a restaurant setting, and ensures a degree of skill in salesmanship, beverage program management, tasting ability, and a theoretical understanding of the world of wine and beverage.

What a beautiful contrast this vintage was compared to the last few!

2018 started off cool and stayed that way for the duration of the vintage with no sudden heat spikes or early fall rains. This vintage reminds me of a couple of my favorite vintages like 2007 and 2012. Both vintages had ample yields, as did 2018, and were very moderate, allowing me to pick when the grapes were ready and not because of some external event that was forcing my hand. In fact, this might be the highest quality Pinot Noir vintage I have ever worked with, in my 21 vintages of making wine! Pinot Noir was not the only shining star: from Viognier to Syrah, all of the varieties really made spectacular wines this vintage.

It is also wonderful to see an early start to winter with cold nights, cool days and early rains. This time last year, the

Thomas Fire wreaked havoc on Santa Barbara County and became the largest wildfire in California history. That record has since been broken, and I am happy to see the green hillsides and to be clear of the fire danger that has been ravaging the state. It is proposed that we will have a strong winter season with ample rainfall that will fill our lakes and reservoirs and help replenish our depleted ground water reserves. I am also hoping to get a few days on the slopes this winter.
