Newsletter Week 6 Term 1 Principal Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers, It has been a very busy middle of term 1 and I would like to thank our whole
school community for supporting our many events. Our classrooms continue
to be settled with students working hard each and every day.
I would like to thank all parents and carers who have supported their
children wearing our school uniform. Not only does our uniform represent
which school your child attends, but wearing the uniform symbolises
teamwork, togetherness and it fosters a greater sense of belonging.
Thank you to those parents and carers who attended our ‘Meet The
Teacher’ afternoon organised by Mrs Riley. It is a great chance for old and
new parents and carers to meet their child’s new classroom teachers and
gain a greater understanding of what our students do each and every day.
Our 2020 swimming carnival went off with a bang with all students who
attended the event representing their houses with pride. I believe the student
House chants were the loudest in recent memory! It was great to see
students enjoying the water novelty event and also playing water games
outside the pool area. We did have lower numbers of students participate in
the formal swimming races than in recent years.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite all parents and carers in
joining us in our first Parent/Carer dinner of the year. It begins at 4:00pm on
Monday 16th March (Week 8). It is another great opportunity for staff and
carers to come together in partnership. A pizza dinner and committee show
will be provided for all parents and carers while students who attend will
receive a BBQ dinner.
As usual, I request that if you have a concern about the school or a school
issue, please come and discuss any issues with our staff and do not wait for
a little problem to become a larger one. Discussing concerns when they
happen is the best way to move forward.
Yours in partnership, Mrs T.Anderson

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) is a comprehensive, integrated whole school approach to student wellbeing and behaviour. Students and teachers at Briar Road have embraced PBL both in the classroom and playground this term.
So far on the playground students who have been caught displaying any of our core values have been rewarded with catch cards each break time that they can put into their classroom catch card boxes for the chance to win individual and whole class rewards.
Our students from K to 6 also started an exciting new social and emotional learning program (SEL) which helps students learn the competencies and skills they need to build resilience and effectively manage their emotions, behaviour and relationships with others.
Week 6 is our first shopping week for 2020 and all classes with students who have earned enough reward points from their classroom behaviour systems have the opportunity to go shopping in the PBL prize cabinet.
This week we will also be introducing our classroom lining up points boards for break times in the infants and primary playgrounds. Classes will be awarded points at the end of lunch and recess when they are displaying positive behaviours. The class with the most points at the end of each week will be rewarded with a prize.
Finally the PBL team are very busy working on an exciting new PBL Relaunch. This will mean brand new PBL Mascots and new signage around our school. As a team we have created a PBL mission statement which will underpin everything we do around PBL at Briar Road:
At Briar Road Public School, we empower students to become safe, respectful, learners by promoting a holistic approach that values the
whole child and their wellbeing.

On Friday 28th February,
our school participated in
Clean Up Australia Day!
Each class had a different
section of the school to
tidy up. Our school is
usually a very tidy and
clean place, however
students discovered
many tiny pieces of plastic
rubbish and other rubbish
that is often not noticed.
Our playground is now
sparkling tidy for students
and the little animals and
birds to enjoy too!
