Six more weeks before the term ends. TERM DATES FOR 2017 Term 2 – Tue 18/04/17 - Fri 23/06/17-10 weeks Term 3 - Tue 11/07/17 - Thur 14/09/17- 10 weeks Term 4 – Tue 03/10/17- - Fri 1/12/17 - 9 weeks ASSEMBLY: Our scheduled assemblies for the term will be in Week 4, 8 and 10. Scheduled Assembly times are from 12:00-1:00pm on Thursdays. For the assembly days we have morning tea from 10:30am- 11:00pm. Late Lunch – 1:00- 1:45pm. Our 1 st assembly for this term will be on Thursday the 11 th . This Assembly will be a special Mothers Day Assembly. We would like all our AIS mums to attend this assembly, as this assembly is a Tribute to you all. CLASS PLACEMENTS: Our new teachers have started last week. On behalf of the AISPNG community we welcome them to the AIS teaching team. Class placements for this year are as follows Kindy- F- Miss Grace Simon Year 1,2,3- Mrs Louisa Uloulo Year 4,5- Miss Lillian Laharai Year 7,8,9- Mrs Grace Sarim Intensive class- Mrs Frieda Ghabiliha/ Mrs Angela Giyopo Miss Laharai flew in from Port Moresby last week and is settling in very well with her class. She has taught at various public and international schools and has 12 years of teaching experience. Her son Christopher Lahari is now one of our new students in year 4. Mrs Giyopo is assisting Mrs Ghabiliha with the Intensive Class. She has 6 years of teaching experience. Miss Simon is away at Divine Word University for studies and will returning on the 22 nd May. This term we also welcome six trainee teachers from the University of Goroka who will be spending six weeks with the junior years Yr. K-3 for their practice teaching. On behalf of the staff and students we welcome them to AIS. SCHOLASTICS: A reminder to all parents that all orders for the 3 rd issue are now due. Please bring in your orders to Bernatha so she can organize invoice for payment. I will place all orders at the end of the week. SCHOOL CAMP The junior camp (K-3) has been scheduled for Thursday 11-12 th of May. Our theme for the Camp is “Little Leaders of tomorrow.” Camp will begin on Thursday morning (tomorrow) and end on Friday 3:00pm. We would like all students to bring all their camping tomorrow morning. Camp activities will begin tomorrow morning. Students will be setting up their tents from 1:30- 3:00pm. If there are some mums and dads who would like to come along and assist that would be greatly appreciated. After the tents are set at 3:00pm I’d like parents to take their children home for a little rest and shower and then have them back here at school between 5:30-6:00 ready for dinner. To end the camp on Friday we have a picnic lunch from 12:00- 1:00pm. Parents are welcome to join us with a little something to share with everyone. PARENT TEACHER MEETING: There will be a parent teacher meeting next week Thursday the 18 th from 5:30-7:00pm. If there are concerns you would like to raise on the night please email with your agendas and we can discuss this on the night. TARDINESS: There were been quite a number of students coming late to school everyday. We would like to ask all parents to please bring your children to school on time as students do miss out on very important announcements and also the morning part of lessons. SPORTS UPDATE: LEAGUE BILONG LAIF FORMS: NRL Australia & PNG are doing a 3 year pilot program for teaching students Healthy lifestyles through sport. NRL development officers will be coming into school every Friday to teach Rugby to all students. They have given consent forms for parents to sign that have been handed out to all students. If you did not get a consent form please see your child’s teacher. If you do not want your child to participate please let me know. NAPLAN EXAMS: The NAPLAN exams for the years 3,5,7 and 9 will begin next week. Their papers are due to arrive this week. I will keep you posted if there are any changes to the test sitting dates.
