dren, including old times dances as well as modern

to share with your grandchild, followed by joining
them to play in the playground.
We will have cans of drink, cakes and chips for
sale for you to purchase with your picnic lunch.
We were very fortunate to have had Karen come last
week with her poodle to discuss how to look after a pet

FIRE SAFETY VISITS
We thank Jamie from Kurri Fire Station for the fire
safety talks he delivered and for coming with the
truck to demonstrate the equipment to the children.
RED DAY FOR DANIEL MORCOMBE
Students were shown a DVD about Stranger Danger
and had discussion in class about being safe. They
completed an art activity and did written work about
keeping themselves safe. The students raised $72 for
being out of uniform. This money is being sent to the
Daniel Morcombe Foundation.
KINDER TRANSITION PROGRAM
The new kindergarten children for 2016 have now com-
pleted the first three of the six transition sessions.
They are loving the activities provided and are settling
in to their new surroundings and making friends.
RAINBOW DAY – YEAR TWO FUNDRAISER
On Friday the 18th November (week 6) we are having a
‘Rainbow Day’ ! Students can bring in a gold coin dona-
tion and wear their tie-dyed tee-shirt, which they did
during special interest groups throughout the year. If
they do not have a tie-dyed tee-shirt then they are
welcome to wear a brightly coloured tee-shirt.
Also available for $1.00 will be rainbow ice cream
which they can dip in sprinkles. As well we have Gum-
Balls that we will sell for 20c at recess. These will be
in a bag to take home as they are bubble gum and not
to be eaten at school.
Year Two thanks you for your support and we look
forward to presenting the school with our end of year
gift.
CHILDREN’S SANDWICH FILLINGS
Parents, I need to remind you that under no circum-
stances can your child have peanut butter as a
filling on their sandwich. We have students here
who can have an anaphylactic shock if they come in
contact with peanuts. Thankyou.
Early Action for Success Progress Report As part of the Early Action for Success program, we monitor children’s progress
in literacy and numeracy daily. We use these observations and work samples to
electronically record every child’s improvements each five weeks. This data is also
tracked by the Education Department Literacy and Numeracy teams. We can com-
pare how our school is going in relation to other Early Action for Success schools.
We completed 30 weeks of teaching and learning at the end of last term. When
we compared our results with the other schools we had confirmed that our chil-
dren are all making solid progress and we have many amazing results to be proud
of.
In numeracy, all our kindergarten children are ‘at’ or ‘above’ where they should be
for this time of the year. In year one, we have excellent results as well with
counting forward and backward and thinking and working mathematically. We will
be working hard with counting forwards and backwards on and off the decade, eg
67,77,87,97,107,117 and backwards, e.g. 115, 105, 95, 85 etc . . In year two over
79% of our students have demonstrated a clear understanding of the year 2 sylla-
bus. In year one and two, we will continue our focus on place value and under-
standing addition and subtraction with numbers in the tens and ones in particular.
E.g. Sixty five children came to school and thirty went on an excursion. How many were still at school? In literacy, we have all kindergarten children again working at or above where they
needed to be to start term four. In year one we have over half our students work-
ing at or above where they need to be in reading, comprehension and writing. In
year two, we have 90% of our students ‘at’ or ‘above ‘ in reading and comprehen-
sion. Seventy five percent of our year two students are writing ‘at’ or ‘above
‘expected levels.
We will continue to work hard to support all students to reach their potential.
Student have personalised goals in place so each learner has explicit feedback
about their successes and the next learning step. Teachers regularly meet and
collaborate to plan the best teaching and learning program possible for each child
at Stanford Merthyr Infants School.
We thank you, their parents and carers, for your ongoing support and encourage-
ment of your young child and their learning environment, at our school.
Christine Warren-Davey, Instructional Leader
I would like to add that every five weeks Christine and I pour over the students
data before we enter the results to send to Sydney. Our results show the dedica-
tion of our staff and the parent /grandparent support we have here at our school.

SCHOOL SWIMMING PROGRAM
The whole school is going to swimming lessons at Kurri Kurri Aquatic Centre for 10 days, beginning Monday
23rd November – Friday 4th December. The cost for ten days pool entry is $32 per student. (Students
with Season passes will need to shown their pass each day and the cost will be NIL) .We are very grateful to
our P&C as they have agreed to pay for the bus hire for 10 days which is $800. If any parent needs as-
sistance with this cost, please come and see me.
Children will leave school at 1:30pm, ready for their lesson at 2pm —2:45pm. We are asking parents to
please come to the pool to collect students at 2.55pm. There will be no bus returning to school. Students
who go to OOHS or catch the bus at 3:30pm from school, will be able to travel back with a teacher, as long
as permission notes are signed. Parents are invited to come and watch the lessons for free. If you want to
swim with your child when lessons are finished at 2:45pm, you will need to pay $4:70 per day, plus another
$4.10 for your child. Pre-schoolers over two years old have to pay $4.10, or $3:90 if you have a concession
card. If you want your child to stay in the water after we finish, I will ask you to sign that I have handed
over your child at 3pm. If you are not inside the pool by that time, your child will get changed back into
school uniform.
Children will be divided into small groups of 5-6 students. All our teaching and non teaching staff get into
the water and teach the students, as well as two swimming instructors who guide us in what to teach.
Children need to bring swimmers, a swimming shirt and towel each day to school. Please ensure all your child’s
clothing has their name on the items.
The permission note is at the office. If you have any questions about the swimming program, please come
and see me. Thank you. Anne Carr Principal.
