Dates for your Diary 24th June Open-air Mass at St Anselm’s School at 10h30am 7th July Translation Mass in the Cathedral Quire at 8pm Office open: Monday - Friday 9am - 3pm for all enquiries, appointments, bookings and all parish business (Closed for lunch between 12.30 - 1.00pm) On this feast of Pentecost we congratulate Naomi Jones- Biyere, Toni-Lee D’Amiral, Margaret Eyum Onuh, and Sophia White who are receiving the fullness of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmaon at the 11am Mass. Many of us have been praying over the past nine days from the Ascension for a fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit in our lives. We have been asking that the Holy Spirit given to us at our own Bapsm and Confirmaon may be more effecve in our every- day life. The feast we celebrate today reminds us that we are all charismac, that is we have all received spiritual giſts or charisms that help build up the church. They are listed by St Paul in his first leer to the Corinthians, Chapter 12, in his leer to the Ephesians, chapter 4 and his leer to the Romans, chapter 12. These giſts help nourish the Body of Christ. At the first Pentecost the Holy Spirit came on the apostles. They were on fire, full of courage and ready to face the world as they spread the Good news of Jesus. The German monk, Anselm Grun, writes “Everyone has a par- cular giſt that God has given to each one of us. Thus everyone can contribute something to the life of the parish and church community.” It is important for us to realise that we are all valuable and we need to recognise the giſt that God has given to us. We mustn’t compare ourselves with others. “I can’t do this; I am unable to do that.” The queson that we should ask ourselves is “what does God have in mind for me?” In each of us there is something special unique, precious, a disncve giſt. When the celebrant prays over those to be confirmed he says, “Send your Holy Spirit upon them to be their helper and guide. Give them the spirit of wisdom and understanding The spirit of right judgement and courage, The spirit of knowledge and reverence Fill them with the spirit of wonder and awe in your presence.” The purpose of the seven giſts is to transform each one of us into the true image of ourselves as God intended. When we let these seven giſts act within us, our life will blossom, it will become healed and whole and filled with joy that endure seven beyond death. What giſts has God given to you? And which among these many giſts characterises you most? Each giſt is a task. Its presence is designed to lead you to life, while it also enables you to build others up, to be of use to others, as St Paul says. When you have found out your giſts live them, put them to use for yourself and for other people! In your giſt, develop your uniqueness freely and serve others!” (Taste the Joy of East- er: Anselm Grun) FIRST HOLY COMMUNION 2018: Sunday, 20 th May - First Holy Communion Going- Forth Mass at 9.30am CONFIRMATION 2017-2018 Ongoing Formation: Sunday, 20 May, 3-4.30pm in the Upper Room Sunday, 10 June, 3-4.30pm in the Upper Room RCIA: Tuesday, 22nd May at 7.30pm in the Presbytery Weekly Saturday Concerts: Parishioners are reminded of our Weekly Concerts in Hall - Saturdays: 10.45 to 11.30am. May his innocence and his laugh- ter, his constancy in fighng for the Chrisan faith in a world losing belief, his lifelong devoon to the Blessed Virgin Mary and his love for all men, especially for the poor, bring cheerfulness to those in despair, convicon and warmth to lukewarm believers and the knowledge of God to those without faith.
