SWIMMING LESSONS 2016

As part of the Physical Education programme, all children in Years 1-6 will be attending compulsory swimming lessons at Bayswater Waves, beginning on Monday 21 November and concluding Friday 25 November 2016 (Week 7).

All classes from Year 1-6 will have five 45min lessons. Students will be bussed to and from the Bayswater Waves pool under the supervision of their class teachers. Lessons will be conducted by qualified instructors, using the Royal Lifesaving Vacswim stages.

Each child is required to have bathers (worn under uniform to school each day), a towel and slip-on footwear (to be worn to and from the pool only) for each lesson. Goggles are optional, but highly recommended. All items are to be carried to and from the pool in a clearly labelled swimming or plastic bag.

PLEASE clearly label every item of clothing including bathers, towel, goggles, shoes, socks and underwear. We cannot be responsible for lost items of clothing. Please complete the enrolment form for each child (sent home last week) and return it to your child’s class teacher by Friday 11 November. Any difficulties regarding attendance of lessons should be sent in writing, with an attached medical certificate, to the Principal.

The students are not allowed to wear thongs / flip flops to school. Children will change into their slip-on footwear before they leave for the pool and put their uniform footwear on when they return to school.

Parent Cyber Safety Workshop

The world of social media & technology is fast becoming the centre of our children’s universe. It can be a challenging task for parents to stay on top of the dangers of social media and technology, while monitoring their child’s online behaviour.

We are offering a workshop for parents to learn more about managing children’s technology use, including an introduction into the most popular social media platforms and practical tips for keeping kids safe online. We will also cover information on setting boundaries around technology, online behaviour management, and tools for managing technology both in and outside of the home.

If you’ve ever struggled with getting your kids off their games and into bed, worried about knowing what your child is accessing online, or felt concerned that your child was spending too much time in the digital world, this workshop is for you!

Please register for this event by following the link provided. This is an important school event and all parents are strongly encouraged to attend.

SCHOOL NEWS

The Year Four students have been working hard in English this Term and are developing their literacy skills across a number of areas. In reading we complete small group focused reading with one of our teachers and also work on the Lexia programme to supplement our comprehension. We also apply our reading skills to researching for the two assignments we are completing this term. We have investigated the elements of a healthy lifestyle, which we are using to make Stop-Gap animation movies. Having found some information, we have to storyboard the action and then write a script to follow. We are investigating the sustainable use of water here in WA. This information will be used to make documentaries where we will utilise a green screen to help us be in the moment. We have been working on writing our scripts in a documentary style. Peer editing of our writing has been a major focus this term. We have made a big effort to conduct quality reviews of each other’s work and provide useful feedback to make our writing better. In spelling we have continued our work on the Smart Words program that is running across Years 4-6. Our touch typing skills have continued to improve throughout the year, with our best typists now speeding along at 40 or 50 words per minute. Mark Fitzpatrick Year 4 Teacher
