We debated the negative side of 'Every child should have a pet', and presented well-spoken arguments and fantastic rebuttal, which received very high praise from our adjudicator. Last Friday they had their first debate against Bungwahl Public School as part of the Year 6 Faculty Day at Bulahdelah Central School. They did a fantastic job and only narrowly missed out on winning. Our next debate will be against Wingham Public School in the coming weeks. Liz Winney Debating Co-ordinator Faculty Day After the debate on Friday; Rogue, Jade, Sean, Jonah and Cait Hawes participated in a Geography Faculty Day with other Year 6 students from local schools. They participated in activities that are based on les- sons they will cover in Year 7 next year. They all thor- oughly enjoyed the day and got a taste of what to ex- pect for high school in the coming years. Newcastle Knights Knockout Congratulations to the boys who performed and played really well in the Newcastle Knights Knockout across the five games played on the day. Coming Up School Social—Year 3 to Year 6 The Year3 to Year 6 social will be held tomorrow evening from 6pm to 7.45pm. The theme is “Characters from books and movies” and students are encouraged to come in costume. Drinks will be $1 each and entry is $2. We ask that students from Yacaaba and Corrie bring a plate of food for the night to share. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Student of the Week Congratulations to Amber Sunner from the Latitudes class who was an enthusiastic and beautifully behaved student throughout the duration of the Bathurst excursion. Amber was also helpful while the students were packing up at the end of the trip. Congratulations, Amber on being named this week’s student of the week. Bouquets On Friday the 31st of July, four members of our school debating team travelled to Laurieton Public School to participate in a workshop hosted by Premier's Debating Challenge co-ordinator, Tony Davey. Jade Hunter, Rogue Bowman, Jonah Brumby and Sean Simmer were determined to participate and deserve to be proud of their efforts. Despite only arriving home from Bathurst late on Thursday night, and needing to be ready to leave for Laurieton at 7.30am the following day, they showed outstanding commitment and were rewarded for their efforts. Throughout the day students from all over the mid- north coast participated in two mini-competition activities, both of which our debaters won! They presented their reasons for why celebrity chef Jamie Oliver deserved a parachute more than other well-known celebrities. Well done to Jade for her fabulous portrayal of Jamie! Then later in the day they needed to plan what changes they would make if they ruled the world. Their plan to distribute utility robots that could transform into any electronic device impressed the adjudicators and gave them a convincing win over their opponents. The final activity of the day was a mini-debate against another school with only 10minutes to prepare in which there was no winner, but an

Boys Soccer This Thursday 13 June, the boys soccer team will be playing against Nabiac Public School at Memorial Park, Tea Gardens commencing at 10.45am.

Year 3 Dance Group Performance Mrs True and students from Year 3 have been prac-tising their routine and will be performing at assembly this Friday at 9.15am. Parents, grandparents and friends are invited to attend.

IMPORTANT CHANGE OF DATE - SEMESTER 1 GOLF TOURNAMENT The Semester 1 golf tournament scheduled for Mon-day 24th June has been moved to Tuesday 25th June. This is due to the closure of the club bistro on Monday nights. Please let Mr Weightman know if you can't attend. More information will follow.

Woolworths Earn and Learn 2013 The managers of the Woolworth stores in Raymond Terrace have agreed to place the supplied school

logos above drop boxes at each store. If you are shopping in store don’t forget to ask for the Earn and Learn stickers and place in the drop box or return to the box in our school foyer. Student Report Folders Students who attended our school at the end of last year will have their student report folders. As we are sending home the first report for 2013 we need all folders returned to class teachers (or the office) by Wednesday 12th June. Our Kindergarten students also need to return their student report folders as their Best Start and Term 1 report went home at the end of Term 1. All new students to our school this year will have a folder supplied.
