SCHOOL MILK We are extremely sympathetic for the chaos and upset to children caused by the new milk sys tem. Unfortunately as a school there is little we can do to h elp as the system has been thrust upon schools with no consolation or choice. The problems we are encountering are borough- wide – it would appear that parents at most schools are equally disgruntled at the inflexibility around the schools ability to allocate milk or register for you. This system is unlikely to change and we can only continue to urge you to register your child for the milk scheme if you wish your child to receive it. Hopefully once we all become familiar with the system it will become less frustrating and more efficient. However the main message we do need to keep rein forcing to you is - If you don’t register your child’s details they cannot receive the milk – this applies to every child even under 5’s and thos e in receipt of free sc hool meals. Application forms are available from the school office. Thank you for your patience and support On appositive note part of the promotion campaign for the Cool Milk scheme allowed us to request a visit from Doctor Hillary Jones (GMTV resident doctor). We have been chosen as th e winning school to have Doctor Hillary come along to visit our children for the af ternoon of 9 th  May. PIRATE DAY We have sent out separate letter and information about our Nursery, Reception and Key Stage 1 Pirate day . We thank you for y our support and w e are confident the childre n will have a really lovely day. We are focusing any fundraising activity this term t o try and raise money to improve our playground and provide improved facilities for the children at breaks a nd lunchtimes. We will be spending a c onsiderable amount of our capital allocation on improving the tarmacked area but the cost of this is so expensive any additional money raised will be put towards lovely seating for the children and outdoor play eq uipment - we would welcome your support w ith any ideas to help us with this project. NEW PHONE MESSAGE Many of you who ring school regularly may have noticed our incoming call message has changed. Please listen care fully to the message and press the button for the extension you require. The main school office is now Option 3.

FACEBOOK– SOCIAL NETWORKING ALERTAs a school we have no control over the internet activities which take place out ofschool hours – this is something parents need to keep control over. We have had areport of an incident which the Police are now involved with, which could quite easilyhave had serious implications for children’s safety. If you do feel it appropriate foryour child to access these sites then please be vigilant to check the security settingand any profile details your child may have uploaded, along with the people and types ofconversations they are involved in. The main target for activity seems to be directed at secondaryschool age children but please, please do not presume your child is safe and speak to them andkeep checking. Thank you.

SCHOOL START TIMEA kindly reminder - The bell rings for the start of school at 8.45am and if you arrive afterthis time then you are running late. By 8.50am all children should be present and hard atwork in class. Children arriving after this time enter via the main entrance as it isimportant that lessons are not disturbed.

APPROPRIATE SCHOOL DRESSWe would like to remind you that children should not wear extremes offashion for school. Shoes should be low-heeled and extreme haircuts

(with tramlines or words cut in) are not acceptable, so please save them forthe holidays. Thank you for your support.

Children in Orange class (Y6) have been arguing! They havebeen told that the six week Summer holiday is to be cutdown to four weeks (don’t panic, it’s not really happening). They have been writing their views from both sides:

In the six week’s holiday, most children entertain themselves for

up to nearly three weeks. After that they often remain bored for

three weeks, therefore not taking two weeks off the holidays could be encouraging them to become lazy by:

•  Watching TV all day

•   Laying around and not getting fresh air

•  Waking up later

All of these are signs of laziness. These could be caused from not

being able to see their friends, because maybe they’re not allowed

to go out or maybe they live too far away. Also six weeks is a very

long time to keep busy. There are possibilities, however most of  them that children choose to visit, are expensive, which would

cause money problems for their parent/guardian.

(ZAK TIMMS)

On the contrary, having a 4-week holiday is unfair. It’s unfair

because they’re taking away two weeks holiday and not giving it

back. I f they take away two weeks it will be 41 weeks of hard work for both teachers and pupils. Both agree that pupils work

really hard and so they deserve a six week holiday!

On the one hand, many adults and some children think

four weeks would be better, because many children get

bored after the first three weeks. All too often, children

and adults cannot go out because of the price, for

example, for a family of four to go to Yorkshire Wildlife

Park it is over £50, even with a pass to get money off. As

well as this, it is hard to keep a child satisfied because

they get bored easily. In addition to that, they have done

everything they want in the first few weeks. Also many

children don’t get to see their friends as much as theywould like, especially if their parents work full time and

they are sent to their grandparents.

(JESSICA BROWN)

However it is unfair as children deserve it. Taking away

two weeks and not giving it back anywhere else meansless holiday time. Forty one weeks a year will make

children become stressed and tired which could lower

their grades. They already work hard enough so they

 deserve six weeks.
