I regard it as an enormous privilege to serve as Principal of this fine school and to be given the opportunity to lead the College community – students, staff, parents, friends and families. As many of you will already know, my family and I have moved to the Macedon Ranges from Camperdown, a small town in south-west Victoria, where I spent eight wonderful years as Principal of Mercy Regional College (MRC). The opportunity to move to Kyneton comes at a perfect time for my family and me with my daughter, DArcy, commencing today in Year Seven at Sacred Heart, and my younger daughter, Stella, beginning Year Three at Our Lady of the Rosary here in Kyneton. I have had a long association with the Sisters of Mercy, stretching back to early years of primary school at Sacred Heart PS in Colac where Sr Marie-Therese kept a firm but warm watch on our Grade One class. The opportunity to return formally to Mercy education is one that I am looking forward to, as I believe that the Mercy story remains contemporary offering great wisdom and challenges to young people. It also provides a lens to engage students and staff in the Christian story and what this message offers as a counter to the prevailing culture of selfishness and immediacy. In light of the Colleges Mercy heritage, I was delighted to read the Colleges theme for 2019, Compassionfrom the heart”. Coming straight from the core Mercy Education values, it provides great challenges for the year ahead and will form the focus of my addresses to students and then to the broader College community in assemblies next week. This morning, the College has been abuzz with the arrival of 131 Year Seven students as well as our returning Year Twelves. As I commented to a number of parents and staff, schools dont quite seem right without the noise and enthusiasm of young people and there was plenty of both on display as students moved into their new rooms and classes. A Prayer of Compassion Lord, open our eyes that we may see you in our brothers and sisters. Lord, open our ears that we may hear the cries of the hungry, the cold, the frightened, the oppressed. Lord, open our hearts that we may love each other as you love us. Renew in us your spirit. Lord, free us and make us one. Amen. (St Teresa of Calcutta)

Our Careers Practitioners have compiled the following information based on Round One offers from Tertiary Institutions. As usual, Sacred Heart students appear to be in a position to follow the pathway of their choice.

We wish them well and hope that they find success in their chosen fields.

Welcome back to 2019! I hope you have all had a restful and recharging break from school routine, and are energised and ready to go this year. Our focus for this year for students will be to encourage them to take up opportunities that will enhance their Wellbeing. Having a sense of belonging and connectedness in all areas of life is a great preventative factor for strong mental health, which includes being involved, having input into things that matter to them, being aware of themselves and of others and doing their best. If we can all master these simple, but at the same time more complex skills, we will be travelling very well! UNIFORM All SHCK students are now in the new uniform. Details of the uniform are in the Parent Handbook and the new revised Student Planner. The 2018 Student Leaders designed the layout of the Planner, and this will be reviewed and tweaked each year by the students. Any queries regarding purchasing new uniform can be directed to the Uniform Shop on 5421 1274.
