Did you know in 2010, one of the golfers that played in the US Open first qualified lo- cally at the Chambersburg Country Club? That year, the US Open was held in Pebble Beach, CA. Blaine Peffley began his journey by shooting a 4- under 68 on our 18-hole course. With such a score, Peffley was able to move on to a sectional qualifier in New Jersey where he shot 6- under 138. In Pebble Beach, Peffley competed against golf giants like Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson in what the US Open calls “Golf’s Toughest Test.” And it all began here. Every few years the Chambersburg Country Club, also known as the Chambersburg Golf Club, plays host to a US Open Qualifier. 2013 is one of those years. On May 9, 40 to 80 of the best golfers in Central PA will descend upon the club in an effort to move one step closer to one of America’s most prestigious and best known golf tournaments. The golf course at the Chambers- burg Country Club has been held in high esteem throughout its 92 year history. Ac- cording to general manager Jameson Wallace, the golf course has been the club’s most consis- tent and constant feature. It is one of the region’s premier courses. The club also fea- tures , a swimming pool, a club house, and much more. But Wallace says the golf course is the number one reason members flock to the facility. The club is home to a ladies golf association, the Mason- Dixon Ladies League. It also participates in the Franklin County Junior Golf Tour. This year it will play host to the Corpus Christi Golf Classic, the Kasey Straub Memorial Scramble Tournament, the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter Second Annual Golf Tournament, and the FCA Summer Golf Scramble. Golf is all about tradition, and here at the CCC we have plenty of it. Todays clubhouse stands on the grounds that have been known as the CCC for over 90 years. Throughout the 90 years we have built a loyal member base, which includes some fourth gen-eration members. What keeps bringing them back? One word: family. Here at the CCC, we believe every member is a family member. Frank has been a member here for seven plus years, why does he love it? Its simple, the camarade-rie the game brings. He told us, the best place to be on a beautiful day is right here on those greens, and you will not find him here without his group. There are multiple groups to join, we are sure you can find one you would fit right into. For example, a group of ladies meet and play golf every Tuesday morning during the season. They welcome returning members and new members alike, each addition adding to their growing family. They enjoy friendly competition with the game and the company of other lady golfers. When chatting about

the benefits of the club with Diane, a long time member, she spoke about the group she plays with every Wednes-day night, Finding the right group is easy, you will just click with them. The friendship will grow beyond the golf course and into your everyday life. It is never too young to become part of the CCC; we support the areas leading junior golf tour as they make their annual stop here. We support their cause of making tournament golf available for all local juniors and welcome golfers of all ages into our family. Bring your children and teach them how to play on a Saturday morn-ing. There will be lots of people here to help, including our golf pro Jameson Wallace. Golf is more than a game here at the club; its a way of life. It brings people together that might not otherwise have anything in common. It helps build family values and tradition on and off the golf course. We are extremely excited to have you as a part of our family. Cant wait to see you on the 9th hole!

  • When it comes to rabbits, at the Chambersburg Country Club we prefer them elsewhere. Keeping a golf course in tip-top shape takes endless work. Rabbits burrow under grass, damage trees and make our job harder. Twitchy noses and fluffy tails are cutejust not on our green! But Easter bunnies and bunny piatas? Thats a whole different bunch of carrots. At the Chambersburg Country Clubs Easter celebration on March 31, members and friends met the Eas-ter Bunny during a midday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The ballroom was packed when the famous bunny hopped in at noon. More than 130 guests were tuck-ing into helpings of honey-glazed ham, grilled salmon, and macaroni and cheese. Parents snapped family photos with the famous rabbit. Some kids hammed it up and gave the Easter Bunny bunny ears. Others giggled and fidgeted, making for blurred but treasured snapshots.Club vs. Piata At half past noon, the Easter piata game began. Suspended above the floor, the rabbit-shaped piata had big blue eyes and an even bigger smile. That didnt save it. Crack! The first blow was a solid hit. The piata careened wildly, ruffles fluttering. Kids took turns battering the hapless hare with baseball bats. Scraps of pink and white paper littered the floor.

Dents appeared. But the bunny held firm.Sweet Rewards Have you ever heard people say they dont make things like they used to? We think they make piatas just fine. It took a crowd of determined kids over half an hour to breach ours. At long last, a crack split through the piata. A final hit from a gleeful 9-year-old, and the besieged bunny broke. The victors scrambled to grab the peanut butter cups and candy bars spilled across the floor. The Easter brunch was a hit: good food, good company and good times. But in future, we might secretly riddle the piata with holes beforehand to help things along!

    Easter Fun for everybunny

The club has a packed schedule of events this spring, from comedians to cocktails. We just recently hosted a comedy night with great success, said general manager Jameson Wallace. The event sold out. So were looking to keep that momentum going.

First up is welcoming the 2013 U.S. Open Qualifier competitors with a cocktail party at 6 p.m. on May 8. Club members are invited to meet and greet more than 40 golfers, wish-ing them good luck. Dinner specials, light hors doeuvres and cocktails will be served.

Moms will get their time in the spotlight at the Mothers Day Brunch on May 12. Held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the event will take place in the clubs ballroom. Fresh flowers will adorn the tables, and a photographer will be on hand to capture family moments.

On May 26, the club will celebrate Memorial Day with a pool-side party. Starting at 5 p.m., guests can enjoy grilled burgers and hotdogs as they experience live steel drum music performed by The Jammin Steel Band. Kids can play games as parents sample the evenings drink specials.

  • Recently, Shippensburg University graduate students worked with Jameson Wallace to develop a Crisis Communication Plan for the Chambersburg Coun-try Club. With regular evaluation, this plan will help us function more effectively during a crisis--helping us serve you better, no matter whats happening. Pre-Crisis PhaseWeve gathered all the information we might need ahead of time, so if a crisis strikes well know who our key publics are--like you--and how to deliver the information you need.

Purpose and Objectives1. To provide the public with clear, accurate, honest and timely information about a crisis.2. To be able to fluently and easily contact the public during a crisis.3. To protect our relationship with the public during crisis situations.Crisis NotificationDuring a initial phase of a crisis, well notify publics by email and postal service. Board members and staff may receive phone calls at this time. Press releases will be available for the media.Blogs and Social MediaAny releases related to a wide spread or immediate crisis will be disseminated through our website, Facebook page, blog,

Twitter feed, or through a press conference. By liking, sub-scribing, or following these sites in advance, the public can have updates delivered as they become available.

We made it through the winter and now comes our favorite time of year, golf season! You know why you joined the club; let us tell you a bit about why weve con-tinued to stay loyal members throughout the years.

Everyone knows the highlight of our club is our world- renowned golf course, but there are many other benefits of being a member here at the CCC. Take a look at the events calendar, the dueling-pianos event is always fun! Or you could make a pit stop at the pub and cool down with a delicious beer. The club is a great place to bring your family for the day. You

can play your round of golf while the kids have a blast at the pool.

Aside from the many amenities the club has to offer, there is one thing you can never replace; its the camaraderie you find here. Welcome to your new home away from home. At least thats how we think of it, and we hope youll feel the same. Were so glad you decided to join us, and we look forward to getting to know you throughout the season.
