PRINCIPAL MATTERS

What a wonderful event the Easter Hat Parade was. The atmosphere of fun and inclusiveness was radiating

from the COLA. Thank you to our parents and carers for the time and effort you put in, working with your

children to make their Easter Hats They were a joy to see paraded around the COLA.

During the break we should see the completion of the roof works and the beginnings of some additional scheduled maintenance around the school. The students and staff have been extremely patient and flexible during the roof work but we are certainly all looking forward to our school getting back to normal. A huge thankyou to Mr Jordan who has been extremely valuable in assisting me to co-ordinate the supervision and management between the school and builder. Our School External Validation team have been working tirelessly to prepare for the External Validation panel visit next term. The panel consists of another principal and a Principal School Leadership officer who look at our current school performance and assist the external validation team to set priorities for future direction. This has been an excellent process of evaluation and we are looking forward to our panel meeting date in May.

Thank you also to the families who have paid their

educational resources levy this week. Payments can

continue be made online over the holidays. This

money assists in covering the cost of exercise books,

classroom resources and equipment, photocopying,

art & craft supplies and for Years 1 to 6, home access

to Matific; things all students use weekly, if not

everyday! Reminder invoices will be sent home early

next term!

It has been a very long and busy term and I am sure everyone will enjoy the break. As Term 1 comes to an

end, I wish everyone a very Happy Easter and a relaxing, fun, safe and healthy holiday. Please take care

on the roads and we will see everyone’s smiling faces on Tuesday, 30th April.

Principal

ANZAC DAY

Le Hamel Village

Our school has been extended an invitation to attend an ANZAC Day service

at Le Hamel Village on Tuesday, 23rd April. Noah Woods and Kaeleb Morris

will represent our school at the ceremony and present a speech during the

service.

Town Green Service

The Port Macquarie Town Green ceremony will be observed on Thursday,

25th April. Students are welcome to march with the school group.

Please assemble near the Thai Tastic Restaurant on the corner of

William and Horton Street from 9:30am (look for the Hastings banner and staff members)

Wear school uniform including your hat

If wearing medals, these are to be worn on the right

If your child is in Kindergarten to Year 2, we have found it is easier for parents to collect their child after the

marchers have crossed Clarence Street as space is an issue around the cenotaph area. It is difficult for our

smaller children to see proceedings from the allocated school area.

School Service

Our school ceremony will be held on Tuesday, 30th April at 10:45am.

EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES LEVIES

FAMILIES INVOICED $33,700

PAYMENT RECEIVED $11,480

OUTSTANDING $22,200

PUBLIC SPEAKING SCHOOL FINALS

Freya Stark and Bryce de Silva

Drew de Silva and Zake Morris

WOW! What an amazing group of up and coming public speakers we have. At such a young age these

students have the confidence to stand on a stage in front of a large audience of peers, teachers, family

members and complete strangers and talk for 2 minutes on their chosen topic.

The School Finals of this year’s Public Speaking competition was held on Monday and we congratulate

everyone on their performance and in particular Bryce de Silva (Small But Deadly) and Freya Stark (Plastic

Straws) who were named winner and runner-up for Stage 2 and Zake Morris (Bunnings Is the New

Disneyland) and Drew de Silva (Music and Emotion) the winner and runner-up for Stage 3.

FILM BY THE BREAKWALL

Congratulations to students in 5H, 5J and 5/6S who have been participating in a visual literacy program

which included film making. Their film has now been selected to be shown at the “Film by The Breakwall”

festival, a Hastings Valley Community of Schools (HVCS) event.

The movies will be screened at Majestic Cinemas on Wednesday, 8th and Thursday, 9th May with a red

carpet walk for participants at 5:45pm. Both nights have sold out and the coordinators are negotiating

with Majestic Cinemas to screen another session on one of the evenings from 7:30 to 8:30pm. For

parents who have missed out on tickets please add your name to the Waiting List at

https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/film-by-the-breakwall-tickets-57460935204 Once 60 people have

registered, the new screening will be confirmed and parents on the waiting list will be contacted.

Mrs Harris is also trying to organise a matinee screening at school for our students and an evening screening

for parents with another red carpet walk for the students.

A reminder to students to check out the Op Shops over the holidays to look your most dazzlingly gorgeous /

dashingly handsome best for their Red Carpet experience.

WANTED

Mrs Johnston is looking for pre-loved soccer boots in Size 7 and above. We have students at school

playing soccer for the first time but do not have boots to play in. If you have a spare pair or two in the back

of the cupboard please consider donating them to the school. Donated boots are kept at school for non-

weekend playing students to wear.

WOOLWORTH’S EARN & LEARN STICKERS

Woolworth’s Earn & Learn stickers will be back from Wednesday, 1st May through to Friday, 25th June. All

students will receive a sticker sheet next term and we ask parents to please assist office staff by putting

stickers on sheets before sending them in to school. A school box will also be at Woolworth’s Settlement

City for you to drop the sticker strips / completed cards into.

The Earn & Learn program helps provide the more expensive art & craft products that the school would

not normally purchase.

PARENT WORKSHOP on BEHAVIOUR - CHANGE OF DATE

Due to unforeseen circumstances, Mrs Paterson has had to change the date of the parent workshop she

will be running to Monday, 20th May – 5:30 to 7pm. Parents who have already booked in have been notified

of the change.

Teaching children to be responsible decision makers, resilient and self-regulated is always a challenge but

an essential life skill. Sharing some strategies between home and school can make a huge difference in

supporting children to develop skills in effectively managing their behaviour and emotions.

A $10.00 donation is asked to cover the resources that will be supplied to you as part of the workshop.

BIKE RIDING POLICY

Road safety education is integral to the safety and wellbeing of our students. A whole-school approach

involves our school, parents and carers working together to implement road safety education. The

Department of Education and NSW Roads and Maritime Services recommend children under 10 years of

age DO NOT ride bicycles to and from school unless accompanied by an adult. Our school provides bike

education as part of our Health program but we do not encourage children to cycle in or near busy traffic.

From next term, students wishing to ride their bike to school will be required to complete the school’s Bicycle

Rider’s Agreement which is to be signed by the student and the parent/carer.

Riding a bicycle to school is a privilege and it is expected all riders will abide by these regulations.

SCHOOL BAND WORKSHOP

A reminder to our School Band members a workshop will be held at school on Monday, 29th April (9am to

3pm) and Friday, 3rd May (8am to 1:00pm). Dress for the Monday is casual clothes suitable for school (tops

must have sleeves and no thongs) and on Friday, normal school uniform.

The workshop is of great benefit to the development of the standard of the band and all students are

encouraged to attend.

Permission notes and the $40.00 cost was due back today!

PSSA SPORTS

Congratulations to the following students who have been successfully chosen in the next level of PSSA sports

Netball Madison Hughes, Sofia Mansfield and Stephanie Lawrence will now trial for a place in the

LNC Netball side in Kempsey on Tuesday, 7th May.

Hockey Lalita Sen Gupta, Tahlia McIlveen, Charlie Mainey, Millie Geddes (Girls) along with

Freycin Hostettler, William Suosaari, Ben Grummitt, Rhys Mainey, Cameron Carson, Oskar

Morris, Charlie Dargan, Oliver Dargan, Ajay Sen Gupta and Bear Farmer (Boys) will trial for the

LNC team in Grafton on Friday, 3rd May . AFL Fingers crossed for Tim Lawrance who has been named as an “emergency player” for the

North Coast team in the upcoming AFL State Carnival.

HATS

Over the holidays please check the school hat your child is wearing. Several hats, which are clearly labelled

with the owner’s name are missing while there are hats in lost property without an owner. If your child is

wearing a hat not belonging to them, please return it to the office so we can return it to the rightful owner.

While on the subject of hats, holidays are a good time to give them a wash. It’s also the time to clearly label

your child’s hat so if it is lost it can be returned!

THANK YOU #1 – Athletes Foot, Port Macquarie

During the week the school received a cheque for $380.00 being a rebate from the Athlete’s Foot Back to

School Program. 76 parents purchased back to school shoes for their child/ren and we thank them as

well for supporting this loyalty program.

#2 - P&C and Parent Volunteers

Our school is very lucky to have such a great P&C team as well as a large number of parents and carers

who give up their time to assist in classrooms and various areas around the school. We take great pride in

our community involvement and are very grateful to have so many dedicated and supportive families!

#3 - Hastings Public School Families

A massive thank you to the families of our school who have supported P&C by purchasing/selling raffle

tickets and/or donating to the Easter Hamper Raffle. Today, you helped put a big smile on the faces of 26
