Letter from the President Happy New Year and Welcome to 2015!

w e welcome the New Year in a new Center for the Arts, and we hope that you make it a destination stop whenever you are in downtown Bartlett. We will be changing our gallery exhibits regularly, and they are beautiful! The center is still in need of lighting and a few other items, and that means that Arts in Bartlett is still in need of funds to make improvements. Now, more than ever, we are in need of your support and generosity. If you have-n’t done so yet, please invest by participating in out 12x12x12 fundraising campaign. It’s not over! We have doubled the goal to $4,000 since we made our $2,000 goal by De-cember. We’d like everyone to participate with a donation to Arts in Bartlett. If you are able to give a $12x12 donation of $144, it will cover your 2015 dues at the highest level of Sustaining Member-ship.

Membership dues for 2015 have been mailed and we hope you will support Arts in Bartlett gener-ously. Although our membership dues have never been raised in our 12 year history, with our added expenses we are planning a $5 increase in most levels beginning with new members during our mid-year membership special next summer. We also have a fantastic fundraiser on February 13th to see “No Way to Treat a Lady” by the Fox Valley Repertory Theatre at the Pheasant Run Theatre in St. Charles. Treat yourself to Valentine’s Day early, for $25 one person, or $40 for two. For membership or the February 13 show you can send a check to Arts in Bartlett at 215 S. Main Street, Bartlett, IL 60103 or go to our website www.artsinbartlett.org. You can buy tickets at the Events Page, renew or join at Join Us page or donate at the Arts Center page. Enhancing the cul-tural arts in Bartlett is so important to enrich the lives of its residents.

It’s still our membership that sustains Arts in Bartlett, a volunteer-run arts council, so please continue to support us with your membership and invite new individuals, organizations and busi-nesses to join. It is this grassroots advocacy that grows the arts!

If you are able to volunteer at our Center for the Arts, especially on Saturdays, please let us know. Contact us through phone, email or website, as found in this newsletter.

We really need our membership’s input and brainstorming on fundraising, sponsorships, mem-bership drives, programming and more. All Arts in Bartlett members are invited to come to the next Board meeting on January 26 at 6:30pm in the Log Cabin. We hope that you feel an invest-ment to bring more arts to Bartlett, volunteer to join a committee, attend our events, and spread the news about Arts in Bartlett, a vibrant arts council!

Thanks! Rita Lopienski

A rts in Bartlett recently learned of the passing of Pravin Krishna Goswami, an artist who displayed in our gallery and also had a very successful one-man show at the Village Hall gallery in January 2010. His show was named “Awakening of the Self” and ranged from images of the Hindu deities of Krishna and Ganesha to symbolic Tantric abstracts. Tantra is a representation of the human body as a symbol of the uni-verse. Goswami, who worked as creative director in India’s leading advertising agencies for 40 years, used his talents honed in advertising, films and fashions to inspire a spiritual awakening of self. His son Sid Goswami of Bartlett said Pravin died in India after a short illness. He said that the Arts in Bart-lett exhibit was very meaningful to his father.

The Bartlett International Chorus is all smiles after performing their Christmas Cantata at Claremont of Hanover Park on December 10. Sam Muhling accompanied the group to their holiday concerts to provide narration for the cantata.

Shop online & help out your Arts Center

A rts in Bartlett has become an associate of Amazon through their charitable site smile.amazon.com to help raise funds for the new Arts Center. A popular shopping portal for gifts and other items, Amazon has created this easy way to give to nonprofits when you order as usual – same products, same prices, same services. Just go through smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com to order and Amazon gives Arts in Bartlett 0.5 of the cost of your order. Here’s how it works: Click here to go to smile.amazon.com and select Arts in Bartlett as your charity. (Be sure not to select “Bartlett Arts Council” that is in Tennessee) Then every time you order on this website, it should indicate at the top of the page that you are contributing to Arts in Bartlett. We have also started a “wish list” on smile.amazon for those who would like to give a specific gift. For more information, go to the “About” page on artsinbartlett.org or call 630-372-4152.
