There is a new opportunity in which your participation is just as important. On October 4th & 5th from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at North Nova Education Centre, we will be hosting a program, free of charge, to help parents talk to their daughters and sons about career choices. Parents as Career Coaches is a program that is designed to help parents identify their childs strengths and interests, which will help with course selection and also introduce meaningful career options. Too many students graduate from high school without having a clear plan for the future. Parents as Career Coaches will equip you, the parent, with the information you need to start this important conversation at the high school level. Whats Your Story 2017 Stand Up Speak Out Promoting social justice respect and understanding with Stand Up Speak Out

At the Chignecto-Central Regional School Board (CCRSB) we know

the only way to address bullying in all its forms is to start talking

about it That`s why every year we host Stand Up Speak Out

CCRSBrsquos board-wide day of action promoting social justice anti-

bullying and positive healthy relationships

It is important to recognize the complexity of bullying so in the last

couple of years a deeper conversation about social justice has

emerged as an important piece of Stand Up Speak Out This has proven to be an important topic with our students and

led to the theme of this years event Whats Your Story

This is a fitting theme because it is through our stories that we know each other it is through our stories that we build rela-

tionships and empathy and it is through our stories that we can more deeply understand the pillars of social justice What it

all comes down to is that if we know someones story we are more likely to treat them with respect and understanding

information for our students If you supply the school with a valid e-

mail address you will be e-mailed monthly newsletters reminders

about upcoming events etc

Consent for Publication of Student Work Parents of students in Grade 9 and new to North Nova are asked to

complete the pink Consent for Publication of Student Work This will

allow us to use the studentrsquos photo in newsletters or the school web-

site Many times we use student photos for such things as athlete of

the month or for events throughout the year

PowerSchool Through the PowerSchool Parent Portal Parents are now able to

change their preferences for receiving school updates and reminders

Parents have a choice of voice email and SMS (text message)

NNEC sends messages through this system on a regular basis In-

structions on how to change your preferences were sent home on

Monday September 11th If you need help to access your Pow-

erSchool account please contact Mrs Lochead in Student Services at

Protect Your Property Each year students report that personal belongings have been stolen

Unfortunately we have those among us who seek opportunity to take

items of value that belong to someone else Each student has been

assigned a personal locker Students are asked to refrain from bring-

ing valuables to school but if necessary please ensure that your valu-

ables are kept securely in your locker Remember to ALWAYS keep

your locker locked and your combination private

There are several choirs

and bands to participate in

so keep your eyes and ears

open Concert choir began

on Thursday September

14th

The concert band will have

their first rehearsal on Fri-

day September 15th

All

other groups including jazz

band jazz choir and begin-

ner band will start up fol-

lowing the REGISTRATION

NIGHT which will be held

at 7 pm in the Theatre

ALL grade 9 ndash 12 students

are welcome and encour-

aged to come out These

groups are for both experi-

enced AND inexperienced

students that want music in

their lives

Listen for audition times to

extend the cast of THE AD-

DAMS FAMILY These

auditions are be simple and

are open to anyone inter-

2017-18 Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma

Students entering Grade 10 beginning in September 2017 will require three mathemat-

ics courses to graduate one at each grade level (10 11 amp 12)

March Break Europe Trips NNEC is pleased to offer two wonderful Europe trips over our two up-

coming March Breaks For March 2017 our destinations are England

Ireland and Wales This ten day tour features stops in Killarney Blar-

ney and Dublin Ireland Holyhead Wales and Coventry Stratford

Windsor and London England with an additional day in London There

are still a few seats so register asap with Mr Pelerine

In 2018-19 school year our destinations will be Switzerland and Ita-

ly This eleven day tour features stops in Lucerne Switzerland and

Venice Florence Pisa Assisi and Rome Italy A visit to Rome would

not be complete without going to Vatican City Registration for this trip

will begin mid-September Listen to school announcements for meeting

times and dates There are limited seats available and will be on a

first come first served basis

dents taking a car to

school must register

their vehicle at the main

office by completing a

vehicle registration form

which must be signed by

Breakfast Program Our student breakfast program is up and running

and available for students after 830 am Break-

fast is the most important meal of the day and the

program is in place to help students have a

healthy start to their day

The program is important program that is certainly

needed by our students The program is expen-

sive to run and the school has a limited budget

The program serves juice fruit when available

toast bagels etc A huge thank you is expressed

for the Breakfast for Learning who provided much

of the funding for our breakfast program

The school would gladly accept ldquopeanut freerdquo

donations of food for the program Items such as

bread juice butter fruit etc would certainly be

appreciated Anyone wishing to volunteer to help

with the breakfast program is asked to contact the

school

Looking for something new to do this fall

a Canadian Literature course These requirements apply to any student earning the

2017-18 Nova Scotia High School Graduation Diploma

Students entering Grade 10 beginning in September 2017 will require three mathemat-

ics courses to graduate one at each grade level (10 11 amp 12)

March Break Europe Trips NNEC is pleased to offer two wonderful Europe trips over our two up-

coming March Breaks For March 2017 our destinations are England

Ireland and Wales This ten day tour features stops in Killarney Blar-

ney and Dublin Ireland Holyhead Wales and Coventry Stratford

Windsor and London England with an additional day in London There

are still a few seats so register asap with Mr Pelerine

In 2018-19 school year our destinations will be Switzerland and Ita-

ly This eleven day tour features stops in Lucerne Switzerland and

Venice Florence Pisa Assisi and Rome Italy A visit to Rome would

not be complete without going to Vatican City Registration for this trip

program is in place to help students have a

The program is important program that is certainly

needed by our students The program is expen-

The program serves juice fruit when available

toast bagels etc A huge thank you is expressed

for the Breakfast for Learning who provided much

of the funding for our breakfast program

The school would gladly accept ldquopeanut freerdquo

donations of food for the program Items such as

bread juice butter fruit etc would certainly be

appreciated Anyone wishing to volunteer to help

with the breakfast program is asked to contact the

school
