Science Week National Science Week is being celebrated at IPS this week. The theme is Future Earth and students have had the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun hands on activities including coding, making wax coated lunch wraps, creating alternate energy sources, and providing water filtering techniques. All of these Science based activities have a focus on sustainability.
Just a reminder the Science Week competition closes this Friday 18th August.
Premiers Challenge Debating Competition Inverell Public School has done it again with overall 3 wins and one loss in the Premiers Challenge Debating Competition for Years 5 and 6 students. On Wednesday Bailey, Takiah, Poppy and Eli went to Ross Hill Public School for our final round debate and won the day. The topic was “That we should ban all unhealthy advertising and sponsors during sporting games”. For this debate our team was the affirmative. The topic was a bit harder than we thought. This year the team has debated against teams from Glen Innes, Uralla, Ross Hill Gold and Ross Hill Blue. We have had a great time meeting and debating against the teams from other schools. We are now waiting to see if we have to have a debate off to progress to the next round. By Bailey King

This term 5R have been learning about sustainability during literacy time. Students have watched the series “The War
Against Waste”, looked at images from around the world and listened to books concentrating on several sustainability
issues. Letters have been written, posters drawn and many persuasive
pieces of writing have been written outlining how badly our environment is suffering from human pollution.
Touch Football IPS has been incredibly busy with Touch Football this term! The senior boys played their Knockout Competition against Moree. The Moree team were too quick where it counted and came out with the win. The senior girls played their Knockout Competition on Monday against Ross Hill and showed some amazing ball skills. The girls missed out on the win with the final score 5-0. On Tuesday, 20 of our year 3 and 4 students went to the GALA day at Kamilaroi Oval and represented our school with pride. The 3 teams played fantastically, cheered one another on, showed exceptional sportsmanship and all came out with at least 3 wins each!
School Spectacular 2017 In November, 11 students from Inverell Public School will travel to Sydney to dance in the 2017 NSW Public Education Schools Spectacular. Our students will be performing with over 2000 other Public School students and the Schools Spectacular will be broadcast on television on Channel 7 in December. The students are holding a raffle to help fund their trip to Sydney and we would like to thank the Inverell community for their generous donations of 45 prizes. All IPS students will be bringing home a book of raffle tickets this week. Please support our Schools Spectacular dancers by selling these tickets and returning to the office by Friday 22nd September.
