Dear Friends and neighbours, I am from Glenameade, Pallaskenry and I am your nearest and most local Councillor. Over the last year I have continued to work on your behalf to ensure our parish obtains it’s due entitlements and proper services. In addition to improvements and continued maintenance to our local roads I am happy to have delivered an investment by Irish Water in the provision of a new 550 meter water main from the Seven Sisters on the Adare road at Kildimo. In addition to the provision of this new water main drainage at Kildimo graveyard will be addressed also, which has been a considerable problem for a number of years. And to complete the project I have received a clear commitment from the Council that in the summer of 2016 the Council will reconstruct and tar 1.4 kilometres of this section of road towards Adare together with associated drainage works at Clorane. The provision of safe pedestrian access to and from Kildimo village to the Beer Garden public house along the N69 continues to be a goal of mine and I expect a positive announcement on this issue in the early New Year. The improvement of the footpaths, speed control and parking at Kildimo National School and the taking in charge of Ballyvareen Estate are but a few issues that need addressing in 2016. There are great opportunities for local communities to play an integral part in the renewal and development of our parish. I intend to work with Kildimo Community Council so it can benefit from new streams of local area funding for rural projects and local organisations. If I have not met you already I look forward to meeting you in 2016 and please note I am available to attend meetings and assist with projects in your area should you require my support, Wishing you and yours a healthy and prosperous 2016.      Tidy Towns: This year Kildimo scored 266 points out of a total of 450 in the Supervalu Tidy Towns Competition. This was an increase of 4 on last year’s result. There was plenty of positive commentary from adjudicators on recent initiatives. The full report can be viewed at http://www.tidytowns.ie

We are very grateful to all who helped to make our little village a better place to live. Sponsorship, help and ideas are always welcome.

    Kildimo Youth Club

This year is the 7th year of our current youth club. We are affiliated to the Limerick Youth Service who assist us with Child Protection courses for volunteers. The age group for members are 6th class & 1st year. We meet on Friday nights between 7:30 & 9:00 in Copsewood College Hall where we partake in the following activities, soccer, table tennis, basketball, table soccer, unihoc, dodge-ball, rounders, squash, pool, x-box and music. We also have outings where we go bowling, crazy golf, cinema, roller jam and rugby matches and we have movie nights once a month. Also there are art nights and nail art for the girls. Each year we help out at the Christmas party in the Seven Sisters. We wish to sincerely thank the youth leaders for all their hard work and also Paddy O’Neill for the use of the hall in Copsewood.

The Graveyard Extension Works on the graveyard Extension project are now complete. This project involved the extension of the burial ground, the upgrade and extension of the car park and the provision of new front boundary and perimeter walls. This extension adds 149 new plots to the existing burial ground and it will now be handed over to Limerick City & County Council for on-going operation and maintenance. In early 2016 plots will be allocated and documentation will be forwarded to all purchasers. The total spend on this project was €98410. This includes all costs e.g. land acquisition, professional fees, materials and labour. A number of extras on the original specification were completed including, extensive drainage, permeable paved footpaths and the planting of trees around the perimeter of the new extension and car park. In recognition of the quality of the completed project, Limerick City & County Council awarded Kildimo Burial Ground 1st place in the Modern Burial Grounds awards 2015 in the Adare / Rathkeale Electoral Area.

    Councillor Tom Neville

I thank the people of Kildimo for the courtesy they have shown me throughout the year. I am continuing to make representations to Limerick City & county council in relation to the inadequacies of the sewage system in Kildimo. I have now secured agreement from the Council that this would be a recurring item at every meeting of the Adare Rathkeale Municipal district in order to arrive at a solution as soon as possible. The Council have stated that a report of the schedule of works and costs on the scheme is to be received in the near future. I am humbled to be selected as a candidate for the General Election of 2016 and if elected I will represent Kildimo nationally in the same manner as my father Dan Neville TD did for many years. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and yours at home and abroad a very happy Christmas and prosperous New Year. Please do not hesitate at anytime in contacting me if you have any issue or concerns you wish to discuss.

    Kildimo Craft Group

A group of ladies meet every Wednesday from 2 to 4 in the Library. Items knitted & crocheted are donated to charitable organisations. To-date we have donated 552 caps, 32 blankets & 49 cardigans and a number of throws to the neo-natal unit in St. Munchin’s maternity hospital and various other charitable organisations.

  • "Something to remember and be proud of in our parish."

Young people from Kildimo Youth Club in 1990 took the first Peace Step with help from the Irish Peace Institute and the International students from the University of Limerick. Twelve Peace messages were sent out to the twelve European countries at the time. They erected the first Christmas tree in the community site displaying the European flags and each message was read out at a youth mass before the lighting of the tree. The tree was lit by Jim McMahon from the Shannon Centre for International Co-Operation, and peace was sent all over Europe.

    Kildimo / Pallaskenry GAA

2015 was a historic year for Kildimo/Pallaskenry GAA as they fully amalgamated at a historic meeting in October. Members of both clubs voted to completely amalgamate playing resources, assets, liabilities, fundraising and committees. 2016 will be a landmark year as the club looks to build on the successes of the last few years. On the playing front many strides were made again. The Under 15 hurlers and footballers were the highlight of year, winning both the under 15 hurling and football against Ballybrown and Na Piarsigh respectively. The intermediate hurlers made significant progress in 2015 by making the 1/4 finals of the intermediate championship for the first time in five years. They lost to a good Cappamore team after a replay. While the all-conquering junior footballers of 2014 added another county Junior A league title to their impressive trophy cabinet. They lost to Cappagh in the Junior A championship semi-final in October. With a young side they’ll go a couple of steps further in 2016. The minor hurlers won the county B title against Ballybrown in the Gaelic Grounds to cap off another fine year. Many players from the club also represented various Limerick Intercounty squads with great skill and pride over the course of 2015, which is a wonderful reflection on the club. We’d like to wish everybody a merry Christmas and a happy new year and look forward to seeing old and new players back in training in 2016!

Deputy Patrick O’Donovan TD Limerick Fine Gael TD Patrick O’Donovan has been in contact with the National Road Section of Limerick City and County Council in relation to the possible development of walking lanes in Kildimo. Patrick O’Donovan said he had raised the issue with the Council in order to have an improved walking amenity for Kildimo considered by the Council in 2016. He outlined to the Council the suggestions that had been made by some local residents to the Council, and the benefit that local people would get from the proposed walking lanes on the N69. “I know from travelling the N69 regularly that it is an extremely busy road, and any measures which can be taken to improve the walking infrastructure in the area should be considered by the Council. There has been a major push in recent times to encourage physical activity with walking routes being developed in many towns and villages across the country. This is a community that I have shown great local leadership on this project and I am glad to support it.” Deputy O’Donovan has said that he will be meeting the engineering staff of the Council early in 2016 to see how the matter can be progressed.

Kildimo Community Enhancement Plan In 2011 Kildimo Community Council commissioned a Community Enhancement Plan. This plan was prepared to fully reflect the views of the local community and to set in motion the steps necessary to attain their vision for the future development of the Kildimo area. The key objectives identified for the preparation of this enhancement plan were

    • To promote and support community initiatives aimed at improving the character and amenity of the village and its surrounding area.

    • To provide a tangible input into local authority actions and initiatives in the Kildimo area • To provide a platform to be used by the community to approach various funding organisations to fulfil

community aspirations. This enhancement plan has acted as a springboard for the instigation and completion of a number of projects since 2011, for example

    • The Junction realignment & landscaping at Slattery’s Cross. • The pedestrian crossing and traffic calming on the N69 going through the village. • The road realignment at Bolane bend. • The renovation of the Carnegie Library. • The graveyard extension and the renovation and extension of the car-park

While there has been a number of successes in the recent past there is no room for complacency as there are still a number of areas that need attention. Going forward it’s important that we remain focussed and continue to work to a plan. To this end we will be updating the community enhancement plan in the coming months and welcome all relevant submissions or ideas. This plan will form the basis for our interaction with the local authority and various funding organisations in the short to medium term.
