Newsletter –June/July 2020
Hello everyone and welcome to the latest newsletter
I hope everyone has been keeping safe and well.
Lockdown
The 5 mile restrictions have been lifted (3rd July) so we’re now free to roam as we
please, although prior to this you would have probably been ok to visit the field if you
lived a little out with the 5 mile radius of the field.
Tam has posted a laminated guide of do’s and don’ts on the notice board as a
reminder to adhere to the current Scottish Government Covid-19 guidance relating to
distancing and sanitising.
I managed to visit the field last Wednesday during some time off work and got a few
flights in during what was, I think, the only two hours that I didn’t rain last week. I had
quickly packed “the Bixler” and a couple of flight batteries for the visit.
With only 3 of us there that evening and a fair wind from the east, right down the
strip, a reasonable distance was kept and the happy flyers were satisfied with their
flying fix.
At the Field It’s nice to see a few of us getting back out!
The Building continues…
Last month featured some nice pics of Craig Booth’s self-built 1000cc twin cylinder petrol engine.
I’m glad to say that it’s now found a home and Craig’s build, made form home made plans based on a Riley Model B.
Craig 3d printed the pilot himself.
I’m convinced it’s a “selfie” pilot but craig informs me it’s actually Bruce Willis – I can’t tell the difference. Either way I’lll chalk that one up as “celebrity at the flying
field”. 😊 Great work Craig, we can’t wait to see the finished model.
Other updates The SAA have passed on some information regarding:
• First Person View Operations in excess of 400ft above the surface
• Operations in excess of 400ft above the surface
Please see the accompanying pdf files sent out with this newsletter.
Interestingly, when I was out at the field last week a helicopter did fly directly over the field
at a height I reckon Geoff Capes could have launched a shot-put to. The flight in progress
was quickly terminated and a quick landing made.
Club Events. All club events this year are currently postponed.
• John Wilson Scale Day
• Midsummer fly-in
• August – Summer fly-in.
The committee have discussed this, and all events remain shelved for the time being. It is
important that everyone’s safety is taken into account and I appreciate that some members
may still be shielding or may have decided not to visit the field until it’s safe to do so. We
will continue to monitor government guidance and forward on any SAA guidance to
members.
