Historic Cemetery Stroll Fulton Street Cemetery

The Resting Place of Pioneers

Thursday, July 14 Departs 9am return by noon We have fully enjoyed the past two years

“strolling” and learning about Grand Rapids

history and architecture through our historic

cemeteries. This year we’re visiting the

Fulton Street Cemetery. This cemetery is

tucked neatly into the Uptown/Midtown area

at 801 E. Fulton St. and was once surrounded

by farmland at the eastern edge of a growing

settlement. “Once you step inside, it’s like a

curtain descends,” said Dilley. “It’s a

peaceful, contemplative place.”

The rigors of the walk are no more than

moderately paced, and involves walking and

standing, mostly on paved surfaces.

Tom Dilley is a retired attorney, author, local

historian and member of the Grand Rapids

Historical Society. He has led this tour

annually and will share his passion with

us!

Transportation by minibus.

Join this non -stop journey through the infectious and soulful pop anthems and ballads that made household names of stars like Petula Clark, Dusty Springfield and Lulu. Day Trips (continued)

8th Annual Brown Bag Mystery Trip!

Thursday, September 8 or Tuesday, September 13 Departs at 8:30am back by 7pm The much anticipated annual Brown Bag Mystery trip is scheduled for September! “Bag” some fun by joining this mystery day trip as we discover Michigan towns and visit unique, locally owned businesses. We will receive a special gift from each business to fill our Brown Bag. A wonderful lunch is included at a locally owned restaurant...and experience something “cultural” too! Cost: $84 ($25 now, balance due July 28) Includes: Transport by motor coach, lunch, tour, gratuities plus brown bag goodies!

Annual Fall Color Tour Thursday, October 13 Departs at 7am return by 7pm Christine suggested this destination after reading a newspaper article about this unique village. The article was titled “How One Developer Singlehandedly Saved The Village of Walloon Lake”. The article stated that just a few years ago, the outlook was bleak for the once-bustling northern Michigan resort community of Walloon Lake. The recession, years of neglect, a court battle and other issues had given locals little reason to feel optimistic about the future of a dying village located at the foot of a pristine glacial lake that Ernest Hemingway once called home. Just off the beaten path to Petoskey along U.S. 131, the village of Walloon Lake is again drawing visitors thanks to the efforts of developer Jonathan L. Borisch. Today, the village boasts about 30 businesses, roughly half of them seasonal. Lunch will be enjoyed at Castle Farms in Charlevoix. Castle Farms has also seen great change over the years! What first started out as a dairy farm in 1918 turned into “Rock and Roll Central” in the 1970’s and now is returned to its original splendor. We will take a tram tour and see its extensive gardens, original stone towers and beautiful fountains. Cost: $119 ($25 now, balance due September 1) Includes: Transportation by motor coach, lunch, driver gratuity, coffee and sweet rolls.
