In a final act of service to the community, the remaining principals involved with the Westerly Pawcatuck Joint Development Task Force have recommended a fund distribution proposal to the Attorney General. The plan, if approved, would spread funds to several worthy non-profit organizations involved in downtown revitalization, the arts, and historic preservation. For many years, the Task Force had made significant contributions to all of these areas. The Greater Westerly Chamber Foundation, the group whose mission and projects most closely match that of the Task Force, stands to receive an estimated $22,500. Those funds would be used to address initiatives that continue the works outlined in the Task Force 20 Point Action Plan. Priorities have been established through community meetings that were led jointly by the Downtown Business Association and Chamber of Commerce. Projects such as a summer trolley, additional wayfinding signs, marketing, bike racks, and others will come to fruition thanks to the generous allocation of the Westerly Pawcatuck Joint Development Task Force. “We are very appreciative and know that we can accomplish a lot of good for downtown with these funds” stated Rudi Hauser, Chamber President.
