Marn Luther King, Jr. Day is a U.S. holiday marking the birthday of Dr. Marn Luther King, Jr. It is observed on the third Monday of January of each year, around the me of King's birthday which is on January 15. This holiday, also called floang holiday, is part of the holidays set under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which establishes the ob- servance of certain holidays on Mondays, though the Act predated the establishment of Marn Luther King, Jr. Day by 15 years. A couple of English teachers and students visited the American Corner and they each received a one-to-one training on the use of Trace Effect’s database.

tening” was held on January 23. Forty

Teachers and students who partici-

pated found the topic very inter-

esting. All learned how to improve

their listening skills.

Sixty enthusiastic university students participated in the BEST Camp 2013. Dur-

ing seven days of intensive training, they improved their English skills and

learned about different aspects of the American culture .

The American Corner partook in the camp and provided a detailed presentation

of the services and materials available for English language students such as

kindles, audio books, American English and elibraryusa.

The students received folders with information about the American Corner,

bookmarks, and also pencils as a souvenir.

Movie Presentation “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”

The American Corner and English Teacher Maria Emilia Flores,

from the Baptist English Academy, partnered up for the presen-

tation of the movie “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory”.

The movie was screened to thirty children from the ages 5 and 7.

Sixteen children participated in the Pop Corn Day activity. The

American Corner Coordinator talked about the story of the pop-

ular snack and presented the ebook “Snakes and other Reptiles

from the eLibraryUSA/BookFlix . During the movie presentation,

the children ate pop corn.

Summer Camp at the Binational Center

The American Corner Coordinator

is partnering up with the Bi-

national Center’s Summer Camp

2013. The children visit the li-

brary twice a week to play board

games, slam cards and make

craft.

English Language Learning Book Fair

The American Corner Coordinator and

the Binational Center’s Academic De-

partment coordinated a book fair.

The book fair offered an opportunity

for the English students, English teach-

ers and ACCEESS program students to

receive English learning materials such

as magazines and older edition books.

English students from the Binational Center

The film series “I have a dream….” in-

spired by the speech delivered by Dr.

Martin Luther King Jr. in 1963 in Washing-

ton, D.C was presented at the Binational

Center.

The screening was presented to com-

memorate Dr. King’s Birthday .

Seventy English students participated and

learned about the importance and rele-

vance of this speech.
