The list opposite confirms the new Provincial team for 2011 –12 and includes the brethren who will receive active honours at the Convocation at the York Racecourse from the Provincial Grand Master . This new team is compiled on the right in a format that can be cut out and inserted into your new Mark Diary covering the existing page of the Provincial Team details at the back of the diary. This will then replace the 2010 team listings. Please update your Diary nearer to May to include this new information and keep your diary up to date. See Page 4 for the Provincial promotions for next year.

50 YEARS A MARK MASON
During a Lodge meeting in October at the Streonshalh Mark Lodge, in Whitby, W. Bro. Joe Robinson celebrated his 50 years as a Mark Mason, and watched his Son in Law, Bro. Phillip Smith join the Mark degree. Not only did he watch, but Joe acted as Junior Overseer on that evening, The Deputy Provincial Grand Master V.W. Bro. David A Crofts presented Joe with his certificate, noting his 50 years anniversary, and listed the many fine moments that Joe had achieved in this time, including the role Joe had pursued over the years in collecting, or cajoling Charity money from the brethren at many events from Fish and Chip suppers to the Garden Party. At the end of his address, the DPGM presented W.Bro. Joe with a printed mug on which was depicted his name, and a Mark Masters Apron. Joe thanked V.W.Bro Crofts for his gift, and commented that whilst he was pleased to receive it, he would have preferred a pork pie, whereupon the resourceful DPGM produced one from his bag, to the delight of all present. “To see so many brethren turn up this evening and to receive such a warm welcome makes it so satisfying” said Joe later, “I love my Mark Masonry and will continue to serve as long as I can and I hope that my Son in Law, Phillip, enjoys it as much”

W. Bro. David Vollans of St Cuthbert’s Mark Lodge No 743 extended the limits of the Mark degree in November last year. David attended the Consecration of the fourth Mark Lodge in Cyprus, The Phoenix Lodge No 1923. In the presence of the Pro Grand Master, the Assistant Grand Master and many other Grand Lodge Officers from London David was the Grand Standard Bearer to the Pro Grand Master. The following day at the Constitution of the new District Grand Lodge of Cyprus, attended by the Pro Grand Master, David again enjoyed being the Grand Standard Bearer. “It was a great honour to carry out this duty on such a special occasion,” said David, “The Constitution of a new District Grand Lodge was extremely interesting and is a ceremony not often seen by many brethren.”

THE ROYAL ARK MARINER Isn’t it amazing how many Mark men missed out on our wonderful Provincial Assembly in Scarborough in November? What a great day out it was for our brethren and ladies. Following the promotions to Provincial RAM for W.Bro.s : Christopher Tindall, Eric Barrett, Terry Willis, Stephen Hawkes, Bernard Porter, Malcolm Farrow, John Loftus and Clive Copley, and the talk on Mark Grand Lodge workings in London, the PGM was surprised by W. Bro. Allan
Richmond of Scarborough RAM Lodge who presented a new Ark to the province. In previous years the Scarborough Lodge had ‘loaned’ theirs for the meeting but Allan decided that he would personally make a new Ark specially for the Province. “A wonderful surprise” said the PGM “ the quality of the workmanship is fantastic and I am proud to accept this Ark on behalf of the Province and I thank Allan most sincerely for this gift.”
———————- On 14th December at Grand Lodge, London, W. Bro,s John Joy, Peter Grant and Michael Osgathorp were presented with their RAM Grand Rank honours, fully supported by many brethren from our Province

MARK MASON LIFEBOAT NEWS Angle's all-weather Tamar class lifeboat Mark Mason was launched on Sunday afternoon, 5 December, to assist an 11m catamaran that had broken down off the entrance to Milford Haven. The catamaran Kanaloa, with three people onboard, was on passage from Milford to Land's End. The lifeboat was launched at 4.29pm, at the request of HM Coastguard, and established a tow to the stricken vessel 11 minutes later. The catamaran was then taken to Milford Marina, where she was berthed at 5.35pm, and by 6pm the lifeboat had been rehoused and was ready for service again. It was the second time in 2 days that the catamaran had been assisted by an RNLI lifeboat. She first developed engine problems on Saturday morning off St Davids Head and was towed to Milford Marina by the St Davids Tyne class lifeboat.

GOLF COMPETITION REPORT The Inter Provincial Golf competition between North and East Yorkshire and West Yorkshire took place at the Oaks Golf Club on Thursday the 30th September 2010. With West York's holding the trophy a win was essential for the North and East Yorkshire team. The competition was a 4BBB match play with six pairs going head to head, it was a hard fought match ending in a draw 3 matches all. Unfortunately this result meant that the Mark Province of West Yorkshire retained the Trophy. We were joined afterwards for dinner and the prize giving by our Provincial Grand Master Eric Gore-Browne, and Jim Steggles, the DPGM of West Yorkshire. Such is the enthusiasm between the two
Provinces for this golf event that the ceremony at the Old York RAM Lodge at Cleckheaton was interrupted by a jubilant Brian Emmett PDPGM in order to pass on the good news. My thanks go to all who took part taking time out to play, and particularly Tony Ayre who was a very late substitute. To the Oaks G.C. for providing us with a good course to play on but perhaps more importantly to most of the very hungry teams and visitors, a splendid meal to finish. The next Inter Prov. Golf Competition will be held at Selby Golf Club on Thursday 29th September 2011.
