    News Update

Important info...Dear Members and Friends of DFC,

There he was standing about 15 feet from us, all 6 foot 10 inches of him. Denver knowshim as the Birdman, Chris Anderson. Shaden and I had been given wonderful ticketsby a generous DFC family. We enjoyed the game as the Nuggets beat the opponenthandily. My son, Shaden, began pursuing any NBA basketball player he could trying tosee if he could get a autograph or better yet, a headband or wristband. Shaden wasstanding on a chair jumping up and down yelling at the Birdman to please give him hisheadband. To my amazement adults around us were also trying to help Shaden byencouraging the Birdman to give the little boy the headband.

Shaden was a true seeker. He was trying to have contact with a famous athlete. Therewas a wall that separated the general public from these famous athletes. You could

seek all you wanted but not actually get close! We, the last few months, have seen trueseekers at our altars. People who seek to have contact with our Lord Jesus Christ! Justlast Sunday I prayed with a man who was recommitting his life to Christ. I also prayedwith a couple who were seeking Gods best for their marriage. There is no greater sightthan to see people seeking the Savior! What a beautiful and powerful scene to seepeople seeking and receiving help from the King of Kings!

Shaden couldnt quite get the Birdmans attention. He didnt get the headband;Birdman walked away without noticing my son. There was that barrier and the Birdmancouldnt hear Shaden even though he was yelling. That is not the case with our God.

Jeremiah 29:13, You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.God is being found among us! Of all the positive things I have seen and experiencedhere at DFC in the last three months, the most powerful and positive is seeing peopleseek God and experience Gods forgiving power and cleansing. There is no barrierbecause of the sacrifice of Jesus. Lets all keep seeking Him!

    News Update

    Board perspective...

    Brothers and Sisters in Christ,The excitement of activities and ministries happening at DFC these days is palpable!Worship services are powerfully impacting people; Sunday School classes are thriving;

small groups continue to form; lay involvement in ministries is on the increase; lives arebeing transformed through the communication of the Word of God; and a feeling of

community is growing. Most of all, our Lord, Jesus Christ, is being lifted high so He can

    draw all men to Himself.

Even though our nation is undergoing arguably one of the most trying times in our

history, the work of the Lord surges on as the receptiveness to the Gospel heightens intimes of adversity. As the stark contrast between the teachings of scripture and the

philosophy of the world become ever more focused, so the hunger for truth grows inthe hearts of those seeking that which is real. It is our God-mandated responsibility to b

witnesses to the Truth (Mat 10:18; Acts 1:8).

Pastor's current series, Healing Our Hurts, is helping us to dig deep and settle issues so w

can be better witnesses. In last Sunday's passage (Mat 5:21-24), there's something very

    important about verse 23:

Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember thatyour brother has something against you...

For a long time, I turned the last part of this passage around in my understanding. Iused to read it as "... and there remember that you have something against your

brother." In other words, I placed the emphasis on recalling some way in which I

thought I had been wronged. But Jesus is saying something much more demanding. He's saying I must remain sensitive to how I may have wronged a brother and take the

initiative to make it right. This changes my whole perspective by taking my focus off

myself and my "rights" and placing others before me.

As we reach out into the hurting darkness that is the world around us, we will get our

feelings stepped on. Let's try to keep in mind that we are to be living sacrifices for ourFather (Rom 12:1) as that is our purpose in this life since He redeemed us. Being His

witness will likely not be comfortable (John 15:18), but eternal life to those who will hea

the message and respond is worth the effort!

    Serving Him Alongside of You,

    Kids Corner

    DFFL

Each Sunday morning during the month of January, the first throughfourth graders who attend Childrens Church are actively involved andcheering on their favorite DFFL (Denver First Football League) team. Ourkids are bravely stepping on to the field and gaining yards by answeringquestions based on verses found in Joshua, Judges, and Ruth. All DFFLmemory verses and questions are based on these three books of the Bibleto align with the 2009 2010 Nazarene Bible Quizzing program.

So what does DFFL look like? The children are divided into four teams:The Olivet Tigers, Mount Vernon Cougars, Eastern Nazarene Lions, andTrevecca Trojans. Each team is easily identified because the kids arewearing their team colors as they sit in the stands. In addition to showingteam spirit, each child has a Bible and is ready to look up the verses that

are being called out by the League Commissioner. Some kids even havetheir offering tucked in their pockets ready to be placed in the offeringplate during half time. Like all football games, the music is blaring and thecrowd is going wild.

Clearly our kids are enjoying an exciting DFFL season. As our firstthrough fourth graders become completely engaged in this clever twist toBible study and Bible memory, we can thank our DFFL Coaches and

League Commissioners for encouraging our children to Be strong andcourageousfor the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.Joshua 1:9 NIV

    Sincerely,

    Susan Foster

to those in need. Individuals wishing to donate to Haiti EarthquakeRelief online can do so through www.NCM.org. Checks can be markedCaribbean Disaster Response ACM1204 and mailed to GlobalTreasury Services, PO Box 843116, Kansas City, MO 64184.

    final word.

    News Update

What an amazing time to be at DFC! Each day is filled with expectancy, witha wonderful spirit -- I feel my mood lift every time I walk in the door! Dont youwant to share that feeling of warmth and happiness with everyone aroundyou, your neighbors, your friends at work??

Heres the scenario: You invite a coworker to come to church with you. Youtell them about the great things that are happening here at DFC and how

exciting our church is. They come to church and sit down in the sanctuary;they are ready to take in all that we have to offer. Then, out of the blue, someone comes down the aisle and starts talking to them. Not to welcomethem to DFC or to introduce themselves to these new visitors, but to tell thesenew people that they need to move, because those seats, the seats that yourfriends are sitting in, are actually the seats that their family have always sat infor years and years.

How do you think your friends would feel?

Can we come together and, instead of being concerned about what seatswe sit in, or any petty concerns, communicate a welcoming spirit? As weinvite new people to our church, in hopes that the message of Christ will becommunicated, we may not be able to sit in the same seat each Sunday.Wouldnt it be great if we could graciously welcome newcomers and, insteadof asking them to move, ask them to lunch?
