ALI ALSHAFAI
SPE KFUPM President
On behalf of all KFUPM SPE student chapter officers and
members, I would like to wel-come you to our world. In this
newsletter you can find the chapter’s most re-cent and most recognized endeavors, such as meetings, conferences, short courses, field trips,
projects, and research.
The Society of Petroleum Engineers is the indus-
try’s most recognized professional organization. When you join SPE, you gain special access to the worldwide community that has been finding
and producing petroleum resources for nearly 150 years. I would like to encourage all, especially students
to join us and benefit from the chapter. With us, you can build your communication skills, team
work skills, and organizational abilities. Further-more, participating in the chapter would open new doors of creativity and understanding and
familiarize you with the latest technological ad-vances in the petroleum engineering profession.
Spot lights
Since the first day of the semester, SPE-KFUPM members have been growing and reaching their full
potential by supporting them to conduct educational field trips, exhibition visits, and meaningful social
activities. A large number of members could benefit from these activities and develop unique skills. In
the centre of these skills come responsibility, decision making, and leadership skills. With these activi-
ties and skills, members are now well -rounded students who understand the bigger picture of the pe-
troleum industry.
Nonetheless, the best is still to come. One of this year's plans is to conduct local energy forum which
will be the first of its kind event. Completing this event will be a challenge. However, the determina-
tion of numerous SPE-KFUPM members and their commitment will enable us to make this event a
great reality.
