February is here and the students of SRCS are back aer a long break from the daily schedule and relaxing days with hot chocolate and books. As spring approaches the birds break the morning silence with their melodious and soothing chirping at dawn. The sun shines brightly absorbing the fresh dew on the grass. The sweet aroma of the earth fills the air around us. Heaven approaches us as we walk with me, living every season with its own beauful colours. As we enjoy spring, we forget how awaited the warmth of the sun was on an icy cold winter morning. All the paths in the woods, leaving a trail of leaves along, will now be green, fresh and happy. (i)On the cold yet splendid day of 7th February 2018, the Inter-House Just a Minute Compeon took place at SRCS. Parcipants from Classes 8, 9 and 11 were extremely enthusiasc about this compeon. The parcipants were given a parcular page from a magazine or an informave arcle. They had to summarize it and speak about it for 1 minute. Class 11 were the first to perform. The parcipants were Adit Dhoundiyal, Swa Raturi, Saksham Khanduri and Anwita Singhal. Samriddhi Mehan, Grishma Gandani, Manya Tulsian and Saksham Mehta of Class 9 were next to put up their performance. This was followed by the Class 8 team comprising Sanchit Ghoshal, Mehuli Sharma, Nandika Sharma and Divyank Sharma . Class 8 had learned a lot of new techniques on how to speak as Class 11 and 9 had just set an example. It was a very close call for the judges. Class 11 saw Anwita Singhal and Saksham Khanduri as winners. Class 9 had Grishma Gandani and Manya Tulsian as their winners while Divyank Sharma and Mehuli Sharma bagged the first and second posions respecvely in the Class 8.

The audience were thrilled at the skilled display of speakers for the JAM session.

On the 6 of January, a JAM session was held in our school,

comprising two categories. The students of Classes 6 and 7

were to parcipate in this event. One parcipant from each

class was selected.

We all assembled in the library and knew that this

compeon was not going to be easy but all we wanted to do

was to give our best and enjoy the session as well. All the

parcipants were very supporve of each other. The concept

behind this session was that we had 15 minutes to prepare

and to speak on a topic given to us. We were called on stage to

talk for one minute.

Some of the topics were-

The world underwater

The microscope

Global warming

The art of giving gis

A few of the topics were very challenging but everyone put in

their best. We were fortunate to have a supporve and

aenve audience and I think the programme was a big

success.

In the future, it would be a good idea to have more JAM

sessions as I feel this enables the students to develop their

public speaking skills, their confidence and also increases

their knowledge about diverse topics.

INTER HOUSE JUST A MINUTE- One Moment, Please

The much awaited day of Good Luck Party arrived for the SRCS's ICSE batch, 2018. All the students of Class 9 were geared up to host the party.

The preparaons started a week ago with decoraons, the menu, dances and the songs all planned in advance to put up a good show and to give our seniors a reason to smile and feel they are cared for.

The day began with a football match between Class 9 and Class 10. It was thrilling to watch juniors and seniors compete with each other. The match however was won by Class 10.

The celebraons began aer the match. Ansh, Manya Nauyal, Aaryaveer and Anvesha played the guitar and sang winning hearts with their melodious voices. This was followed by dance performances by Vaishnavi, Manya Tulsian, Juweria, Rasya, Vashita, Prithvi and Ashray. Without Mr Amit Thapa and Mr Sunil Pant singing, the fun of the party can never be complete. Their song was the icing on the cake. Indeed we all had a good me!Our Principal, Mr D' Monte and the Headmistress Mrs D'Monte then wished the Class 10 batch good luck and gave them mementos with a unique tag for each one of them. The Good Luck cake was cut and a treasure hunt game was planned for our seniors.Last but not the least was a jam session for all of us! We danced unl our legs refused to shake further.

The class 10 batch thanked us for the effort we made. Best of Luck and may the Class 10 come out with flying colours.

thAn educaonal trip was organised by the school to the Regional Science Centre for the students of Class 6 on the 14 of February 2018 under the supervision of Mrs.Usha Dhondhyal, Mrs. Sonal Gupta and Mrs. Ranjini. The visit proved to be a great way to arouse curiosity in the minds of school students and it was a thrilling and movang experience. The science park encompasses The Dinosaur Park and the outer acvies exhibits scienfic laws. Some of them are Musical bars, Gravity chair, Whispering garden, Sympathec swing, Bird in a cage,Echo tube, etc. Inside the RSC building the students took a tour of the following galleries- The Fun Science, The Himalayas, Innovaon Hub, Froners of technology, 3 D Theatre and Tara Mandal, Library.Other aracve features were The Home Automaon, Virtual Reality, Bio- diversity , Nano materials, Lissajous figures, Express route ,Snake pendulum , Future technologies in aid of human effort, Resource mapping, Sand art , etc. The students thoroughly enjoyed being a part of these fun filled acvies. Watching a 3D documentary on destrucon of habitat of flora and fauna caused by air, water and nuclear polluon was a great learning experience. The science centre provided a whole world of wonder and amusement with 132 interacve 'hands on' exhibits. The students were excited to observe certain exhibits which had similarity to their science projects done during holidays.

The SRCS Master Chef has acquired its own status and aura in school. It is not just popular with students who like to cook and serve good food but also with large majority of them who believe that good life is impossible without good food. This year 144 cooking enthusiasts, divided into 16 teams, parcipated in the Master Chef compeon. The compeon was held in 2 categories- Fire and Fireless. There was a wide variety of culinary skills on display ranging from Indian to Chinese to Italian. The school provides the basic cooking equipments and stoves while the parcipants got their own ingredients according to their recipes. Students were given 1 hour for cooking. The compeon was not only judged for taste but innovaon. I am sure it must have been really difficult for the judges to reach a consensus. Irrespecve of the outcome of the compeon the greatest thing which embraces everybody is a fesve mood of celebraon. Beyond a certain point it gives students a thrill to be involved in such a creave acvity where all your sense organs coordinate to bring out the best you can. Success in life would be meaningless without good food to celebrate the success. Hope we will have a Sanjeev Kapoor or a Tarla Dalal from our school who might say one day that SRCS Master Chef was the plaorm which put the seed of soaring success as a chef in them.

“Life is simply a cricket match, with temptaon as a bowler.”- Anonymousst th

From the 1 of February to the 15 of February, 2018, Inter-House Senior Cricket Tournament was held at Shri Ram Centennial School, Dehradun. On day 1 of the tournament our Principal Mr.Desmond D'Monte declared the tournament open. The first match was played between Griffin house and Sphinx house. The umpires for the match were Mr.Sunil Pant and Mr. Rahul Kumar. The match was packed with excitement and the cheering squads of both the houses added their own bit to raise the tempo. The toss was won by Sphinx house and they chose to bat. Raman and Sai of Sphinx house were the openers. Both the openers played really well but Sai could not stay at the crease for long and had to depart to the pavilion. The next batsman was Taksh who provided good support to Raman to build a partnership of 50 runs. Griffin house was given a target of 87 runs in 10 overs. The Griffin house innings began with openers Aditya and Ayush. Griffins played well but were not able to chase the target. Other matches of the tournament saw great performances from batsmen like Prakhar Gore, Fateh Khanyari,Girith Negi and Raman Anand, and bowlers like Naman Barathwal,Adit Khandelwal,Suryansh Jaiswal and Kovid Shukla. The teams demonstrated a feeling of true sportsmanship and more teamwork throughout the tournament. The league matches brought bier and sweet results to every house. Now everyone's eyes were on the final match of the tournament. The teams that made it to the finals were Sphinx house with 2-1 in the league matches and Unicorn house winning all 3 of

th their league matches. The Final match was played on the 15 of February ,2018. The atmosphere was full of excitement. The umpires for the final match were Mr.Sunil Pant and Mr.Prashant Mishra. Sphinx won the toss and chose to bat. Well, this was one thing which brought a frown on everyone's forehead because in their last match Sphinx chose to bat and had to face defeat at the hands of Unicorn house. Raman and Amarveer opened the innings for Sphinx house. Both the openers played well and gave Unicorn house a respectable total of 74 runs to chase in 10 overs. Although Unicorn seemed the favourite to win the finals but it was the skill and die hard atude of the Sphinx players which snatched the match away from Unicorn house. Once again cricket proved to be a game of glorious uncertainty.

th thJunior Inter House Cricket Tournament was held between the 15 and the 20 of February, 2018. Classes 4, 5 and 6 took part in the Junior House Cricket. The enthusiasc and energec performance of the players helped Sphinx house bag the first posion. Unicorn house gave a tough fight but had to sele for second posion. The Final match between Sphinx and Unicorn kept us on tenter hooks. Lot of new talents were seen in the Junior Inter House Cricket Tournament which is good news for cricket in SRCS.

thTeacher's Reading for Fun was held on the 16 of Feburary,2018, in the Kund. The stories were told by all the Rainbow English teachers. The first story was presented by the Minor 2 teacher, Miss Ruby. She dressed up like a witch and a wicked one who loved to eat children. The second story was told by the class teacher of 2 A, Miss Asha. Her story was on a caterpillar who thought that it was so plain and will never become colourful like the other insects. The third story was narrated by the teacher of Class 2 B, Miss Payal. She did something different, a puppet show which gave us a strong moral to never lie because it is always caught. Then the fourth story was based on two ducks and a cunning wolf. In the end Miss Disha of Class 3 A narrated her story. Her story was based on a Giraffe and her new born baby. It also had a very strong moral that teachers and parents scold us because they love us and not because they hate us or are irritated by us . All the stories brought smiles on the faces of the students while also inslling morals.

stOn the 21 of February ,2018, Classes M2, 2A and 2B went on a field trip to FRI Museum. A second batch comprising rdstudents of classes 3A and 3B went on the 23 of February to the FRI museum. Both groups were escorted by their

class teachers. The teachers purchased the ckets at the cket counter. There were six museums in all. Some of them were silviculture museum, mber museum and NFWP museum. We saw things made out of wood, a dummy ger and tusks of an elephant. The children were briefed about the devastaon caused by deforestaon. This enabled them to crically think about the importance of forests. The children also learnt about some animals that were protected under the Wildlife Protecon Act. They also learnt how to disnguish between two gers. The children were taught to calculate the age of a tree? The informaon about the various buerfly species found in Uarakhand and the arfacts made out of wood obtained from the forests especially enthralled them. The children were amazed to know about keera grass, a type of mushroom found in the hills of Uarakhand and Himachal Pradesh which is sold at Rs. 7-10 lakh per kg. This is because of its immense medicinal value. We clicked lot of pictures of the FRI garden. The informaon gathered by the children was reproduced in school in the form of passage wring and drawings.

REPORT ON SCIENCE DAY- Imagine, Invent, Inspire

thOn the 8 of February, the students of Grade 8 went for a field trip to the famed Wadia Instute of Himalayan Geology. Previously

named as the Instute of Himalayan Geology, it was renamed as the Wadia Instute of Himalayan Geology in memory of its founder-

the late Prof. D. N. Wadia, (F.R.S. and Naonal Professor), in appreciaon of his contribuons to geology of the Himalayas.

We le school aer the snack break. The drive was about thirty to forty minutes. The teachers who accompanied us were Ms. Anju

Srivastava and Mr. Amit Thapa. When we reached, we were shown into the museum. It had all kinds of amazing rocks, some of which

were very rare. To our surprise, they also had the skulls of a few animals, including humans, and dinosaur eggs! We saw different

minerals and learnt about their uses. Aer that, we were divided into two groups- the first group went to see the electron microscope

and the other went to the earthquake laboratory. Aer the groups were done, we interchanged and went to the earthquake

laboratory while the other group went to see the electron microscope. Aer that, we started for school. I think this was one of the

most interesng and informave field trips, and would certainly want to go to another one like this again.
