Messages from the Headteacher
Dear Parents/Carers
Whole School Photograph - On Friday we had our first whole
school photograph since 2011 and we were truly blessed with the
weather. All students from Years 7 - 13 and all staff gathered on a
beautiful sunny spring morning on the school field to have their
photo taken. The photograph was expertly arranged and taken by Tempest Photography who commented on how well
behaved our students were throughout the process. Information about how parents can purchase a copy of the
photograph will be sent home shortly along with a proof of the photo. Thanks to the recent the recent good weather
and a mild winter, students were delighted to be allowed back on the school fields again and there were lots of happy
students playing football at lunchtime from Year 7 up to Year 13!! Our students are really very lucky to have such a
beautiful school site and we hope that they look after it by ensuring that they put all their litter in the bins provided.
Lent - Students have been continuing their Lenten fundraising activities and Miss Keane has organised a variety of
events throughout Lent to support this. Next week students will be continuing to fill their Smarties tubes with 20p
pieces and last week Year 9 organised the treat day. This week Year 10 are organising their treat day on Friday and we
will continue to collect Easter eggs for disadvantaged children in our local community and the Foodbank. Years 7 and 8
will be taking part in their sponsored Spellathon and Years 9 and 10 their sponsored Maths Feast and all will be looking
for sponsors over the next two weeks. Please support as generously as you can. Miss Keane will also be organising
another “Big Sleep Out” to raise money for homeless charities. This will be on our school site on Friday 10 May.
Further details will be available this week.
Year 11 “Information & Takeaway” Evening - Thank you to those parents and students who joined us for Year
11 “Information & Takeaway Evening”. Attendance was almost 100%. We hope the parents and students who
attended found the evening useful as we enter the final few weeks before the summer exam season. This week we will
be publishing on the website information about Easter school arrangements for Years 11– 13. We are very grateful to
all the staff who are giving up their Easter holidays to offer a revision session and it is essential that students attend
these sessions to support their revision programme. If you have any questions regarding this please contact Mr Gray
(Head of Year 11) or Mr McDonnell (Head of Sixth Form) for further information.
Peace and Reconciliation - As parents are aware there has been a huge increase in knife crime in the UK in recent
months. To coincide with the visit of the Knife Angel to Coventry Cathedral there have been a number of events
taking place in school to help educate our students about staying safe. The English Department organised a poetry
competition for World Poetry Day on the theme of Knife Crime and the winners will go to Coventry Cathedral to see
the Knife Angel. Students have also had a PSHE lesson on this theme and next week we welcome back Barry and
Margaret Mizen. The Mizens tragically lost their 16 year old son Jimmy to knife crime in 2008 and will be sharing with
all students their story and how they have been affected. On page 2 of this newsletter we have published Ebony’s poem
that she wrote in memory of Jayden James who tragically died recently after being stabbed when he was out with
friends in Coventry and who was a friend of many of our students. If you would like any further information about the
activities students have been doing or you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact school.
I hope you have a great week, best wishes, Marina Kelly, Headteacher

‘A Tribute to Jaydon’
by Ebony Bailey (10LSH)
A loss of a friend; this needs to end.
Too much knife crime; it’s never the time.
Teenagers have died
whilst parents have cried.
If only he had stayed at home that night,
he wouldn’t have lost his fight.
He was still a young boy
yet his life got destroyed.
Siblings have lost their brother.
The feeling is like no other.
The world is missing a young man –
why can’t knives just be banned?
Was it out of boredom?
Or perhaps for revenge…
either way - his life didn’t have to end.
One little stabbing could take a life.
But this fight isn’t over; it still goes on.
The world twisted, everything wrong.
Ten more seconds with you:
five for a hug; five for a talk.
I hope we’re making you proud.
You’re one big cloud.
We will all love and miss you forever.
Rest in peace… sleep tight tonight.
I wrote this poem in memory of Jaydon Washington
James who was stabbed on 25th November 2018. He has
many family and friends who are
distraught following his death. My heart
goes out to his family who have lost a son,
brother, uncle and more.

Plas Dol y Moch - Thursday 27 June to Monday 1 July 2019
This summer we have secured 30 places for a 4 day residential trip to Coventry's Dol y Moch Outward Bound
Education Centre in North Wales. Of the 30 places secured, 20 have been allocated to students so far. We are
now opening the remaining 10 places to any year group (excluding Years 11 or 13 due to exams). This is a
fantastic opportunity to experience the outdoors and provides the students with a real challenge in Coventry's
own facility in the heart of Snowdonia.
If you would like your son/daughter to experience this trip please complete the reply slip attached to the letter which is available via the
following link https://tinyurl.com/y3lwffah on the school’s website or from student reception. Should you require any further information,
email me on [email protected]
Please move quickly to secure a place.

“Preparing for
University” Day
On Wednesday 27 March, 13
Year 10 students attended a
“Preparing for University” day at
the University of Warwick.
Working with student ambassadors from the university, students took
