Messages from the Headteacher
Dear Parents/Carers
Jaydon James - We were shocked and very saddened to hear the tragic news about Foxford student, Jaydon James, who
died after being stabbed whilst out with friends in Wood End on Saturday night. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family
and friends at this difficult time. The police have requested that anyone with information contact West Midlands Police via
Live Chat at www.west-midlands.pnn.police.uk 8am - midnight. Alternatively you can call 101 or speak to Crimestoppers
anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light sine upon him. May he rest in peace.
Advent - The season of Advent is upon us again with the Blessing of the Crib taking
place in Coventry City Centre at 4pm this Sunday, 2 December. Our Advent fund
raising activities have started well with 659 Advent calendars donated by the students,
their families and staff. These calendars will be delivered to children in Coventry who
otherwise wouldn’t have one. A particular thank you to Kien Kirk (10KAY) who
brought in the most calendars.
Christmas Raffle - This year we are delighted to announce our first ever Christmas
raffle. We have some amazing prizes including PS4 with FIFA 19, £150 voucher, a spa day and many more. Please support
our fundraising by selling these tickets which will be sent home with students next week. The raffle will be drawn at the Carol
Service on Wednesday 19 December. The Carol Service starts at 7.00pm.
Christ the King Parish Mass - Thank you to everyone who supported our first
parish mass of this academic year at Christ the King last Sunday. It was lovely to
join the parish on their feast day and National Youth Sunday. Thank you also to
parishioners for their generosity in supporting the cake sale to raise funds for our
students’ mission to Brazil in the summer with the Diocese.
Irish Dancing - Congratulations to Aine Riley (7ASI) and Finlay Howat (9SMH) who both qualified for the
Irish Dancing World Championships in North Carolina USA next year at the Midlands Regional Feis 2018
in Coventry last weekend. Aine dances for McHale Academy, Coventry and Finlay,
Turley Duggan Midlands and Mayo.
iPad Draw - Following Sixth Form Open Evening on 15 November, Niamh Harkin
was the lucky winner of an Apple iPad. Students who attended on the evening were
entered into a prize draw which took place on Thursday during a special assembly.
Year 9 Parents’ Evening - We were delighted to welcome parents and students
from Year 9 last night for parents’ evening. The majority of parents are delighted with
the progress their son/daughter is making on their courses and parental feedback indicates that the new
appointment system is working very well.
Years 12 & 13 Parents’ Evening - We look forward to seeing all parents and students at Years 12 and 13 Parents’ Evening
on Thursday 13 December, 4.30-7.15pm. This is a very important evening for Years 12 and 13. Subject staff and the tutorial
team will be on hand to discuss targets and progress being made. This is the first of two parents’ evenings for Years 12 and
13. The second takes place on 14 March 2019. All Year 12 and 13 parents should have received a letter about the
arrangements for the evening and how to book appointments using the online booking system. If you have any issues or
concerns booking appointments, please do not hesitate to contact school.
End of Term Arrangements - On the last day, weather permitting, we will do our annual walk to Holy Family Church to
celebrate our Christmas Mass with Fr Pat. Students will be dismissed from Holy Family Church after mass at approximately
1.00pm. If parents would like students to return to school after mass to be collected, please inform tutors.
I hope you all have a lovely week, Mrs Marina Kelly, Headteacher

Jesus, that we may love you and

Coventry Foodbank. The Foodbank is a long term project the

Items urgently required are: coffee, sugar (500g or 1kg), rice,
rice pudding, long life milk (UHT), tinned fruit, long life juice,
squash and toiletries.
If you are able to support, please send your items into school
reception. Thank you.

and your heart shall not be grudging.”
Dear Parents/Carers
The shop and TV adverts are letting us know that Christmas is just around the corner! With that in mind, here at Cardinal Newman we
are launching our annual Advent Charity Drive. Our students are renowned for their generosity and for living out the Gospel values
encouraged by school and home. This leaflet outlines all of the that will be happening to raise money for various charities during Advent.
Please encourage your son/daughter to get involved and help others to have a better Christmas. Any parents who have access to
contacts/resources that will aid our efforts, please contact Miss Keane, [email protected]
For the first time at Cardinal Newman we are having a Christmas
Raffle. We have some incredible prizes up for grabs and would
ask for parents support in selling the tickets far and wide. Tickets
are £1 each and the prizes available are:
1st Prize - PS4 with FIFA 19, 2nd Prize - £150 Voucher,
3rd Prize - Spa Day.
Plus many more.
Tickets are on sale now, please see the letter that has been sent
home with the raffle tickets for information on how to submit
your tickets.
This year we are doing
something a little
different. Students have
suggested some
Christmas treats that
they would like to sell at
break times to help add
to our fundraising drive.
6th December - Years 7/8
14th December - Year 9/10
19th December - 6th Form
20th December - Year 10
Non-uniform day will be held on 14th
December. Students will be allowed to come
to school in their own clothes in exchange of a
£1 donation. All monies raised will be shared
between our chosen Charities.
There are hundreds of children in
Coventry who will not get a present this
Christmas and there may even be some students in our
school that we will never know about.
Project Christmas Sack is running for the third time. The
project aims to create a gift bag of presents to the value
of £25 that can be given to children and young people in
Coventry. This could be anything from vouchers, CD’s,
clothes, make up sets etc.
We are asking each tutor group to contribute to this
initiative. Heads of Year will be coordinating collections so
more information to follow.
.
This year we are working with
Coventry Carriers of Hope to
donate food to the vulnerable of
our community. They are cre-
ating ‘Christmas Dinner in a bag’
parcels for people in Coventry
that need them. This is an
important project for us to
support so please have a look at
