Newsletter Buxton Public School Hassall Rd, Buxton. NSW 2571 Phone: 0246818229 Wednesday, 19 June 2019 Term 2, Week 8 Teachers Professional Practice & Sharing Last week the staff at Buxton Public School hosted and presented with some of the staff from Thirlmere Pub- lic School a 4Cs showcase to Colo Vale, Hill Top Public and Yanderra Public School teachers. They then took 4 of the kindy students and presented to over 100 teachers at Hurtsville. It was an amazing evening with all our teachers and some of our kindergarten students demonstrating some of the Future Focused Learning that occurs within our school. Our focus on Collaboration, Critical Thinking, Communication and Creativity overarch and underpin all that we do here at Buxton Public School. We were able to show what this looks like, feels like and sounds like in the classroom for our learners and I am honoured and privileged to be the Principal. At Buxton our teachers are not just talented, committed and dedicated to the children here at Bux- ton but promote and ensure student voice and the learning dispositions are a fundamental, integrated part of the classroom philosophy. Congratulations to all our staff for the success of their showcase and the Hurtsville presentation. Sport News What a fantastic few weeks we have had with our sporting triumphs. Our cross country was a phenomenal success. Thank you so much to Mrs Lamplough and Mrs Neich for their organisation of our in-school event and for organising our students to attend the Zone Cross country. Congratulations to Jessica, Gracie, Abby, Bradley, Beau, Buddy, William, Jennifer, Sophie, Bianca, Toby, Hamish, Logan, Kade, Khloe, Maddy, Kallan, Wade, Joshua, Jai, Connor, Isabella, Hannah, Angase, Jack, Tristan, Indy. I would like to give a special mention to Bradley who will now represent Buxton Public School at the next lev- el, Regional Cross Country. We will all be cheering on Bradley. You can read more about Bradleys achieve- ments further on in the newsletter. Netball & Soccer Gala Days Last Friday was our first Netball and Soccer Gala Days. Congratulations to the Netball girls who did an ex- ceptional job. They played so well and showed tenacity and determination. The Senior team won their rounds and brought back the trophy! Go Girls. Our Soccer stars also played exceptionally well and should be congratulated. You can read more about the day further in the newsletter. Whilst the majority of our Buxton Public School students did a fantastic job representing our school and should be congratulated on demonstrating our Buxton Public School values, some students however needed to be reminded about respect and appropriate behaviour. Representing our school at a Gala Day is a privi- lege not an entitlement and as the principal of the school I insist all students are respectful and demonstrate good sportsmanship. This includes how they speak to opponents and the language they use. I will not toler- ate swearing or disrespectful behaviour and the consequence will result in students not representing Buxton Public School at events outside the premises. Principals Message

Debating Our amazing Buxton Public School Debaters competed last week, and they had a great time at Douglas Park. They argued very respectively and did a great job with one of our Buxton Public School Teams getting through to the next round. Well done to all our debaters, The 7 Sunflowers Ivy, Lily, Emmie, Kirsty, Khloe, Madison and Isabelle and the 6 Amigos Lachlan, Jack, Kallan, Jorja, Jessica and Jenelia. Congratulations to the 6 Amigos who won their round. All teams progress through to the next round being held at Buxton.

Lego We are pleased to announce that due to the resurgence of Lego, we have purchased a Lego set for every class. This has received positive feedback from the students and our kids are loving creating, building and collaborating with the new Lego.

Reports There is a buzz around Buxton PS at the moment with our student’s contributing to their own reports. It is such an exciting time as the students are immersed in the reflective opportunities the new reporting system offers them. It will be great to get your feedback on the new reporting format and the conversations this gen-erates at home. Once the reports are sent home later this term I will be sending home an evaluation which will give us an opportunity to consider your opinions on the reports and any suggestions or opinions you may have.

Game Zone As mentioned in the last newsletter, from week 8 we will be opening up the hall at Lunch time and trialling a new Games Zone. This area will offer students a quieter area where structured playtime will allow students opportunities to play board games such as Ludo, Snakes and Ladders, Draughts, Connect Four and Lego. This will be a supervised play area and the students will be taught these games by the teacher on duty. The Game Zone will develop resilience, acceptance, sharing, patients and collaboration. The Game Zone will be a voluntary area offered to the students as an alternative to the grass area.

P&C Our P&C are working so hard to ensure our students have the support and commitment of a dedicated par-ent body. The P&C meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month and are an opportunity for you to come and share your ideas and thoughts on how we can work together to support our students and school. You may not be able to commit to every meeting or even more than one or two, but you are more than welcome to come along. Our P&C are looking for ways to share parent voice within our school and be-come more inclusive and open. If you have any ideas or suggestions, you are more than welcome to come along or pop your ideas in the suggestion box at the front office. We look forward to seeing you at our next P&C or anyone you can get to. NEXT meeting 3rd July 2019. Have a great week. Your very proud Principal. Cheny Collins.

Meeting Wrap Up

Thanks to the people who returned the surveys, the results lead to some interesting discussion. These are just a few of the issues that were raised by you:-

Play time with the painted areas under the cola, this is being looked at. (pieces to play the games

Various activities for the children at lunch is being organised.

We talked about improving the veggie garden that is currently in need of some attention. If classes would be interested in taking turns at looking after it and the P & C would donate, funds for soil and vegetable plants over time.

Musical instruments and a teacher, for the children to have lessons. This was put to Mrs Collins and it would take time to organise, but it is being looked into for a possibility for next year and the P & C would look at sup-plying instruments for the music lessons.

Fundraising Ideas

These were the top responses:

The colour run is still a popular choice but not every year.

Other popular choices were crazy camel, printed art work by the children on tea towels ,tote bags, cal-endars and other items.

Living fundraisers, plants, veggies and herbs

Anyone who has fundraising ideas please come and speak to us we are always looking for ways to raise funds for the school.

Last Wednesday the 7 Sunflowers and 6 Amigos Debating Teams participated in their first round of debates at Douglas Park Public School. We came away from the day with a win and all students represented our school fabulously. The 6 Amigos won this round. Both teams will progress to the next round which will held this Thursday at Buxton School Buxton School against Picton Public School.

DEBATING

On Friday 14th June I had the pleasure of taking a junior and a senior team to the A Gala Day. Every stu-dent displayed amazing sportsmanship and represented our school with pride. I am so proud of every stu-dent that attended. The senior team won their competition and didn't lose a game all day. These girls will be presented with their trophy at the upcoming end of term assembly. The junior team won 5 of their 7 games and I am sure they would have slept well that night. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the parents and family members that attended as without you these days would not be possible and definitely not as much fun. GO BUXTON!! Mrs Neich

On Friday 14th June, I had the pleasure of taking two soccer teams, senior and junior to the A Soccer Gala Day. Congratulations to each of the players for their commitment to the team and for trying their best. The members of both teams displayed skill and determination in each of the matches. It was lovely to see our students working as a team, encouraging and supporting each other even in defeat. Many thanks to Mrs Mathiasch for her assistance with the senior team. Also thank you to the parents and grandparents who came and supported our players on the day.

NETBALL GALA DAY

SOCCER “A” GALA DAY

Buxton is very proud of the achievements of Bradley H who recently competed at the Sydney South West Cross Country Carnival and placed an amazing 3rd! Here is some of the things that KN learnt about Bux-ton's outstanding cross county runner.

What do you need to do to win?

Breath in through your mouth and out through your nose so you don't get a stitch. Believe in yourself! Before the race I say to myself "I can win this race". Pretend you are the only person in the race and run your own race.

How do you practise?

I run to school and I run home from school. I train every second day by running around Buxton and I do Little Athletics.

How did you feel when you won?

Good!

What kind of things do you eat?

I have a big meal the night before a race and I eat lots of fruit.

What do you want to do when you get older?

I would like to be a runner or a football player.

What is the hardest thing about cross country running?

When people overtake you and I have to remember to focus on my own race.

KN INTERVIEWS WITH BRADLEY

On Monday students from 2-3L and 3-4B went to Thirlmere Lakes for an excursion. Guides from The National Parks and Wildlife, representatives from Simec and members of The Friends of Thirl-mere lakes Group all came along to help us learn about our local environment. A huge thankyou to these people for helping us have such a fantastic day. 2/3L and 3/4B
