Hearts and Voices On Friday 15th February, our school choir performed in the Hearts and Voices concert at Blackburn

Cathedral. The choir sang alongside local opera singer, Sean Ruane, and over 200 students from other local primary and secondary schools. The students had been preparing the songs in our choir rehearsals and had

enjoyed two vocal workshops with Sean, perfecting their performance. The students sang beautifully and received lots of positive comments from members of the audience and the organisers of the concert.

The concert raised almost £5,000 for Rossendale Hospice.

Joint Concert with the 2nd Rossendale Scout Band On Wednesday 27th February, we had a fantastic joint concert with the 2nd Rossendale Scout Band at The

Riverside in Whitworth. Our school band and choir performed brilliantly, and enjoyed performing some joint items along with the Scout Band. Sean Ruane also performed at the concert and Joanna Williams from the

Rossendale Hospice came to present certificates to the choir members for their participation in the Hearts and Voices concert. The evening was a huge success and we look forward to our next joint concert.

Bridgewater Hall Concert On Tuesday 5th March, we took 40 of our musical students to a concert at the Bridgewater Hall in

Manchester. The concert entitled 'Halle for Youth: Resolution and Conflict', featured the world-renowned Halle Orchestra and soloists from the Royal Northern College of Music. The orchestra performed a wide

variety of fabulous music, including: a piece from Star Wars, Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture and Barber's Adagio for Strings. We enjoyed hearing about the background of the pieces and learning more about the

composers.

Valencia Trip 2019 Monday by Jack Webster and Jack brown

We all had to be at school for 5:55 am as the coach was leaving for the airport at 6am. We all got into our groups and went down the school drive towards the coach. On the coach we were all very tired but all still very excited. On the way to the airport there was a bit of traffic as we were coming into Manchester but it was a Monday morning with people trying to work. It felt like a long time to the airport, it took an hour. It was quite a boring drive because people were obviously tired because of the early start. When we got to the airport we got all our stuff off the coach and went into the terminal. We walked

past check-in because we were just taking our bags on the plane as hand luggage to put in the overhead lockers. Once we past check-in we all had to get our liquids out and bin anything that was over 100ml as these weren’t allowed. We had to put them in a clear, plastic zip-lock bag which the airport staff gave us before we went to security. At security it was stressful for everyone because some people had never been to an airport before and had forgotten to take things out of their bags like aerosols. Also there were lots of people there and we all had to stay together and some of us didn't know where to go or what to do but the staff were very helpful and others in our group helped out. But we made it through security apart from Mr Warke who had left the first aid kit in his bag so he had his bag searched along with a few other people in the other groups. But then finally we got through and went to the departures lounge to wait for the plane and have something eat. Some of us went to KFC for our breakfast which sounds wrong but we had to as it was the only place in the terminal which wasn't a sit down meal. We had to get something quick because we only had a short time because the gate was opening soon so we had to be quick. At the gate we waited for boarding and there were lots of people waiting for the same flight. We had priority boarding so we got on the plane first and as we boarded, the cabin crew welcomed us on board the plane. As the doors closed the people who had never been on a plane before got very scared but other people comforted them making sure they knew that everything that was happening was all normal. After take-off they loved it. The flight took about 2 hours 30 minutes. Most people went to sleep because it was still early but others watched a film that they had downloaded. Some people are also air sick and were being sick on landing which wasn’t very nice. The landing wasn’t very good because the pilot bumped the plane down onto the runway. We then had landed in VALENCIA!!!!! :) After the flight we got all our stuff and went down onto the runway because there was no other way into the airport. As soon as we got into Valencia airport we got to passport control and the passport control officer looked at our passports and then looked at us and we walked through the gate and then we were in the arrivals area in Valencia. We then found our coach and got on. Mr Walke told us that the journey was 2 hours long before we got to the hotel. So everyone was settling in for a long coach drive but then after 15 minutes the coach stopped and the doors opened and Mr Walke told us to get off. So we did and then we realised that we had arrived at the hotel. We got all our stuff and checked into the hotel. Once we got our room card we went up and checked them out. After we had done that, we went out to get something to eat because it was just after lunch time. We were sent off in little groups to have a look around to see what was around and where we should eat. Most people went to McDonalds but some of us went with the teachers to a place called ‘Cervecerta 100 Montaditos’ which serves 100 different types of small sandwich and the filling in them were traditional Spanish food. The ones we had were Chorizo a la parrilla, Albóndigas, Pollo y salsa BBQ and Butifarra. These are a spicy sausage, meat balls, chicken with BBQ sauce and a type of Spanish sausage. My favourite was definitely the Chorizo a la parrilla. After we had eaten we all had a wander around near the hotel and into the park which was a river but had all dried up and was made into a park. Once we got to the park we played a game which was that we had to find thing to spell out our names. E.g. acorn-A hotel-H. And thing like that. After the game we had free time in the park. There was an outdoor gym and a park with swings and acrobatic equipment. We all had lots of fun on the park even the other children as well. After the park we went back to the hotel and got ready for a evening meal. Once we were ready we went into the restaurant and sat down as soon as we sat down a paella was brought out to us and was served. We all got a very large helping seen as though this is just a starter. Some people loved it but others didn’t. After we had all finished we were brought a burger with bacon and cheese but because the starter was so large we were all so full and couldn’t eat much more. We also got dessert served as well. After we all went back to our rooms and went to bed for the busy next day.
