PRESIDENT’S REPORT: Christmas is just around the corner. I know everybody is so well

organised they have all their presents under the tree.Just a couple of weeks to go whew.

We need to thank the City Council for their grant that will assist with our Christmas Lunch also to

the Wynnum Leagues Club for their grant for the purchase of a wider screen and a new laptop

computer. Ian has both now and will be used during our Christmas Lunch.

Our last day trip up to Mt. Mee and Birches Restaurant was a beauty. Thanks to Jan for those

beautiful Christmas cakes for morning tea. The meal at Birches was superb and there was no room

for ice creams on the journey home, thank you again Garry and Lynne.

To all our members have a safe and Happy Christmas and I look forward to seeing you again

in the New Year.

THEATREGOERS: Chicago – what a show – the cast fantastic. The dancers had Fossey’s moves

down pat, they really had the heart pumping.

The allocation of 30 seats is now full and I remind those attending that full payment is due no later

January 2020. Once paid – tickets are not refundable. I have requested Garry to look into

a Blue Bus transfer for this event – details at our Christmas Lunch.

WELFARE: Good to hear Rita Walker is back home.

Marell Thornton has been in and out of hospital and is

now attending a lot of out-patient hospital visits.To all those

who are not well at this time we hope you will be feeling

better very soon.

OBN: George Murdoch was presented with a medalliion

and a Certificate from President, Neil Lega upon reaching

ninety years. Best wishes George.

INDUCTION: At our November meeting 5 new members

were inducted. We welcome Jay Imison, Kay Aberdeen,

Andrew Hodgson and Malcom and Neroli Beardsley and

may they all experience fun, fellowship and friendship in keeping with the Probus tradition.

PROFILE SPEAKER: Barbara Dawson was our

interviewee for the November meeting and what an

interesting life Barbara has led. Originally from

Morecombe in England she married young, the family

moved to Australia and over the years travelled all over

the world. Barbara told us she trained as an Electrician

and was also a Merchandising Manager. We discovered

she has a very good sense of humour and family is very

important to her.

GUEST SPEAKER: Joanne Cook from the Community Visitor Scheme was our Guest Speaker for

November. The Scheme is government funded and has been operating for 28 years. They cover

many suburbs in our area including Wynnum, Victoria Point, Bulimba and Carina. They arrange for

Volunteers to visit aged care residents to provide friendship and companionship for those feeling

isolated or depressed and the visit can take on

varying activities such as playing board games,

going for a walk, reading or just sharing their

stories. As little as one hour a fortnight is required

to make a world of difference to someone’s life.

FRIENDSHIP LUNCHEON: The next

friendship luncheon will be held on Thursday,

16th

January, 2020 one week after our January

Meeting. Venue to be advised at the Meeting in

January.

NEWS FROM THE TOUR DIRECTOR: Our last day trip for the year was a great success.

Morning Tea was held at Lake Samsonvale over looking the North Pine Dam. Jan Dinsdale who

organises the bus morning teas baked two delicious Christmas Cakes. These were so yummy and

very moorish-enjoyed by all. There was not even a crumb left. Thank you Jan for the baking – it was

very much appreciated by all. Some time was spent on the other side of the dam before arriving at

our lunch venue, Birches at Mt. Mee. It was a shame visibility was poor due to the smoke haze

because there are spectacular views from that area. It was, however, surprisingly green in some parts.

We all sat down to a three course lunch which was highly enjoyable. There was plenty of food and

the service was great. We were so impressed we have booked the venue for our Christmas in July

Day Trip on July 23, 2020. This will be more of a Christmas theme with entertainment and perhaps a

log fire. Neil led us in song on our journey home playing some old favourite tunes. Sorry to those

who couldn’t have an afternoon nap on the bus.

We have had some enjoyable day trips over the past year and we are now organising the day trips for

2020. There will be no day trip in January due to the Cruise which departs on January 23, 2020.

Our next day trip will be on 27th

February, 2020. Details at the January meeting.
