Fairview Medal Dinner (continued from cover)

1 Held on Saturday, April 26 at Fairview, this

year’s dinner honored Fairview Medal recipients

Theologos “Ted” Malahias, D.D.S. and Seth

Wakeman, who joined the distinguished ranks of past

recipients of the Fairview Medal. This prestigious

honor is given annually to two individuals who have

demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to

Fairview over an extended period of time. These men

and women have risen above their peers by providing

invaluable assistance to Fairview, whether through

personal effort, selfless gifts of time, financial aid, or

other behind-the-scenes involvement. Without such

people, Fairview could not maintain its high level of

excellence.

2 In addition to honoring these two individuals,

we were proud to present Fairview’s Community

Partner Award. This award is given to a business or

organization in the region that has consistently offered

its support to Fairview. Fairview presented this award

to Dominion Energy as they have been a steadfast

supporter of Fairview and our residents.

3 Fairview also recognized five longstanding staff

members for their years of commitment to

Fairview with the Longevity Award:

• Cora Kavanaugh - 19 years of service• Stephanie Atherley – 17 years of service • Lance French – 17 years of service• Cristina Potenciano – 16 years of service• Editha Phee – 16 years of service

These five staff members had a combined total of 75

years of service to Fairview and its residents. Fairview

greatly appreciates the commitment from its dedicated

staff and the continued efforts from the Community

Partner Award recipient Dominion Energy and the

honored Fairview Medal recipients Ted Malahias,

D.D.S. and Seth Wakeman. Their collective dedication

and service to Fairview have been an inspiration.

4 CEO & Administrator James Rosenman

presented Stephanie Atherley with her certificate

of recognition following the Medal Dinner.

G roton Utilities, once again participated in

the Neighborhood Assistance Act (NAA)

that provided key funding for energy conservation

related projects at Fairview. Offered by the State of

Connecticut, the NAA program is designed to provide

funding for municipal and tax exempt organizations

by offering a tax credit for businesses that make cash

contributions to these entities. A tax credit equal to

100% of the cash invested is available to business firms

that invest in energy conservation projects. Through

this State program, City of Groton Government

Mayor Marian Galbraith; Ronald Gaudet, Director

of Utilities at Groton Utilities; and David Collard,

General Manager – Utility Finance for Groton Utilities

were able to present a check for $58,505 to James

Rosenman, CEO & Administrator of Fairview, Odd

Thank you to AHEPA for its continued support of Fairview. On May 24, 2017, Ted Malahias D.D.S., President of the AHEPA

C ongratulations to Fairview’s own Deb Morgan for

receiving the Aging Services Award of Excellence

from LeadingAge Connecticut. Her nomination,

submitted by Fairview CEO & Administrator,

James Rosenman read: “During Deborah’s tenure

as its Director of Nursing, Fairview has seen many

accomplishments. Most recently, she was an integral

force behind establishing the Guided Journeys Memory

Care Program and expanding the Therapy Department

to now also include outpatient therapy. Under her

new title of Director of Clinical Services, she is leading

the charge of launching a comprehensive Cardiac

Rehabilitation Program as well as a Home Care Program.

Where there is a new opportunity for expanded care,

Deborah easily shifts her passion and purpose to drive

that new service line to ultimate success. Due in large

part to her leadership, Fairview continues to be in the

top 5% of all skilled nursing facilities in Connecticut

according to the CMS star ratings, and maintains five star

ratings in all categories. Deborah’s compassion, drive,

humor, extensive clinical knowledge and enormous

work ethic have made a positive impact for all she comes

into contact with. Deborah has a true passion for our

industry, she mentors those coming up the ranks and

leads with purpose, to ensure the highest quality of life

for those in Fairview’s care. When it comes to caring for

our residents, she is a force to be reckoned with.”
