SOCIAL ACTIVITY

Beach Day at Playa Lagun

Manera mi bos no tin dos participants started off the year

within a different setup. The committee organized a social

event for these youngsters as a form of motivation by

means of a teambuilding tradition. The aim of this activity

was mainly to guarantee their participation and

commitment during this long-term trajectory. As members

of this committee we believed this was very important and

needed.

On Sunday, January 11th, 2015, 13 of the 26 participants

were dropped off by their parents at Biblioteka Nashonal

Kòrsou. Together in one bus we drove to Playa Lagun,

where the beach day officially took place. During the day

we had different games planned such as, volleyball,

dodgeball, war of water balloon, and more. We had a

pleasant time with these youngsters while bonding during

the teambuilding sessions and enjoying a delicious BBQ.

At the end of the day every single one of them was

extremely happy and they begged us to please do one more

after the project was completed.

WORKSHOP PAPIAMENTU

By Ms. Charlene Merite

On the 19th and 20th of January 2015, these youngsters

were powered up and very enthusiastic to continue with

the following workshops and trainings. The next one was

regarding our native language Papiamentu, which will be

the official language during the debating competition. To

guarantee proper use of the dialect it was essential to seek

involvement of an expert in this area. Therefore we asked

a prominent teacher of Maria Immaculata Lyceum

namely, Ms. Charlene Merite to execute the workshops

effectively. The workshops of Papiamentu consisted of

one session. The group of 26 were divided in two groups

of 13 participants. The objective of the workshop was to

tackle the most common erroneous practice of Papiamentu

by educating the participants with the correct form of

usage. Even though one session is not enough to teach a

person how to speak the idiom correctly, the two-hour

session surely was enough to create an impact and

awareness to everyone to take good notice of the daily

errors committed and try to correct them.

During the workshops of Papiamentu.

MDG’s WORKSHOP

By Mr. Errol Cova & dr. Moses

The debating statements will be made based on the eight

Millennium Development Goals set by the United

Nations. Henceforth it is essential to go through the

MDG’s with the participants to assure a sophisticated

discussion process. Fundashon KPEK is an organization

that stands for quality in the sector of education therefore

sees the importance for a human being to educate oneself

constantly in order to possess general know-how of the

latest developments and their history on a local and global

level. Only by knowing what’s truly happening around

you one can relate and give a real contribution to their

respective community. The workshops were given by Mr.

Errol Cova and Dr. Marilyn C. Moses whom discussed all

of the eight MDG’s. This way they did not only broaden

the youngster’s knowledge but they have also started

preparing them to debate based on good argumentation

and facts against each other. The 26 participants were put

into groups. Each group was given a specific MDG to

present. On this evening we had the support of two

parliamentarians namely Dr. Marilyn C. Moses and Mr.

Hensley F. Koeiman. Both of them gave feedback to the

well-presented presentations and challenged the groups to

fine-tune their expositions to present them to the

Parliamentary. This was an unexpected action taken yet a

special turn that was truly appreciated. The main goal of

this two-day lecture was to provide information and have

the participants study the eight MDG’s to enhance their

background knowledge so they can be prepare to debate

during the competition.

INTERNATIONAL EXPOSURE

Leadership Training University (LTU)

On January 31st, 2015, we as JCI United Citizens of

Curaçao had the great opportunity to refer our 2015

President Silvetty de la Paz abroad to experience the

annual Leadership Training University this time in

Atlanta, GA. While partaking in the trainings she had the

chance to present our project MANERA MI BOS NO TIN

DOS. She showcased the details about the project in front

of many other leaders who traveled from around the world

just to be present on that day. It was a useful and

meaningful moment to interact with other fellow JCI

members to obtain valuable ideas we can add to the project

for improvement.

During the past weekend of Sunday February 08th, 2015

JCI Dutch Caribbean warmly welcomed our 2015 JCI

President Ismail Haznedar, born in Istanbul. During his

visit we were honored to present MANERA MI BOS NO

TIN DOS. For this presentation we invited two

participants of MMBNTD to share with the public

basically three important aspects:

Why they decide to participate;

How are they experiencing this opportunity;

And what are the added values of this project in

their personal and professional career.

In the auditorium of our National Library of Curaçao did

participants, Nerija Montroos and Ketia Bissareth

managed to melt the hearts of the audience with their

tremendous speech. The way these two presented and

shared on this afternoon their thoughts left many of those

who were present shocked and speechless and shedding

tears of joy. As for the committee it was quite a privilege

to have undergone the standing ovation given to them. At

the end of the project showcase these ladies met with our

JCI President Ismail Haznedar and took a nice photo with

him. In addition they were also introduced to our chapter

(JCI UC) 2015 President Silvetty de la Paz who grab the

opportunity with both hands to invite these two young

ladies to assist our meetings in the nearly future.

Finally we are about to reach the final phase of

MMBNTD therefore we want to encourage you to save the

dates of 14th and 21st of March where we will have the
