Kindness Awards

Many new things were announced in our Premier’s address to the people of Victoria concerning our future COVID-19 road map. Amidst worldwide figures that are becoming worse every day in many countries, the resolve shown by all Victorians is turning the tide. There are only 43 new cases reported today with a 14 day average of 65.3 in Melbourne and 4.7 in Regional Victoria. Another pleasing statistic is the 5 day average in Melbourne now down to 53.2. We are all hoping that with our continued vigilance, figures will be much lower by the end of next week. Remote learning will continue next week which is the last week of term. Meet the staff of Emerson School

Mrs Mary Khawli — Administration I have worked at Emerson School for 7 years. I first worked in the office at the Middle Campus for just over a year, and have since worked in the office at the Junior/Senior Campus. When I’m not working I enjoy spending time at home with my husband, three children, dog and cat. My hobbies and main interests include cooking, gardening, walking, boxing, and camping with family and friends. I would like to get away a lot more in my caravan in the future and explore places around Australia.

1. What is your favourite thing about working at Emerson School? I have lots of things that I love about working at Emerson School. Over the years I have met many wonderful students and great staff. Emerson has a very welcoming, warm and friendly feel and I consider myself very lucky to work here. 2. What is your favourite sporting team? I barrack for Collingwood. 3. What is your favourite food? Thai food would definitely have to be my favourite. In particular, I love the dish Pad Cha Seafood. 4. Do you have a pet and if so, what animal and their name? I have a dog named Beau. He is very cute and gets very excited when I get home from work. He also loves to follow me everywhere around the house.

We will be studying the value, Determination, next week. Determined people see difficult tasks as challenges they are willing to accept. They always stay on track, even if something distracts them. They never give up until the task is complete. There have been a lot of different views about how we are going to achieve the task that all Victorians face. It has been a very long and, at times, difficult journey so far. However, we all agree that we must continue to work together to get the numbers of COVID-19 infections down. We all need to hang in there and not give up. Let’s all be determined to do our part by continuing to wear our masks, staying 1.5 metres apart and continually wash or sanitise our hands. REMOTE LEARNING

Joe T (JSH) is showing us that variety is the spice of life. He is enjoying Art and Music classes via WebEx lessons, eating well, playing energetic games with his family and resting well when tired.

Dylan P (JSJ) is having fun completing a jigsaw puzzle. This activity is not only fun but educational too. You have to use fine motor skills, hand eye coordination, problem solving skills and spatial awareness and you must demonstrate a lot of determination to complete it.

Azariaz H (JSE) has been keeping extremely busy this week by making a volcano for science, doing construction - making a box robot, gardening and playing outside with his family. There is nothing better than a game of backyard cricket on a nice Spring day. And what a lucky boy to live so close to the beach. He is able to get fresh air, exercise and play with his pet dogs on the beach.

Here is Mr Luke Bowen teaching JSA music on WebEx safely at his home, using pots and sticks so the students can play too at the JSA Fathers’ Day party.

Keenan W (JSD) has been helping his father with the garden by pruning the trees. Keenan loves Springtime as he loves planting vegetable seedlings, caring for them and watching them grow. His teacher is going to send him some Seesaw activities on seedlings.

Jay D (JSA) is working very hard to complete all his class work.

REMOTE LEARNING Cont...

Domenic P (JSE) has been spending his time in stage 4 restrictions completing his class work, getting exercise and fresh air outside on his trampoline and spending quiet time with his pet dog.

JSA’S FATHERS’ DAY PARTY This year’s Fathers’ Day celebration was indeed a memorable one as it had to be done through the magic of WebEx. The students coloured in images and traced over a personal message, which was then assembled into a card by their mums. These cards and gifts were presented to the dads by their child during our Fathers’ Day WebEx party on Monday, which also involved songs and dance, story time and evening tea. Mr Luke Bowen provided us some entertainment with a live band. Everyone had loads of fun. Ms Janet D’Souza JSA Classroom Teacher

Nisini Y (JSI) is focused on learning her class work and is enjoying catching up with her classmates and teaches on her classes WebEx meetings.

Ashley H (JSI) is strengthening her core by doing perfect planks.

Zija J (JSI) is enjoying the sunshine whilst getting exercise.

Nikkisha W (JSB) is keeping fit riding her scooter.

Teachers at Emerson School have had to become creative to celebrate students’ birthdays during stage 4 restrictions. This is one way a staff member showed one of her students that she was thinking about him on his birthday.

REMOTE LEARNING Cont... Nikola M (MSK), a passionate Richmond supporter, is diligently completing his school work online wearing his class project, a hat with a labelled diagram of the human brain on it. I am sure his classmates and teachers were entertained by it.

Anzac Day was very different this year and Gabriel is an Airforce Cadet and part of his service includes marching in the Anzac Day Parade. Unfortunately, this year he was only allowed to provide service at the end of his driveway during the first lockdown but he still looked very smart in his uniform.

Jorja S (MSF) has been completing her mathematics tasks with the use of some very useful resources.

Hunter M-R’s (MSB) activities during stage 4 restrictions have been very diverse. He has been very busy completing his class work including art tasks and practicing the trumpet.

Roozbeh A (MSD) has been keeping very busy completing his school work. He has been keeping in contact with his classmates and teacher via Webex lessons.

Adam N (MSB) has been working diligently to complete all of his set tasks.

Anthony L (MSG) does his exercises in the morning before accessing his WebEx class where he keeps in contact with his friends and teacher.
