CHRISTMAS FUN TRAINING SESSION THIS THURSDAY 21st DECEMBER

Our normal silly season Christmas fun day is on this Thursday night at the Cannington pool.

We have arranged to have lanes 1, 2 & 3 all to ourselves and you can be assured it will be a fun light-hearted training session, with the usual games, prizes and fun events. Maybe even a slide or 2!

REQUIREMENTS:

The ability to forget your age and respectability, laugh long and loud, shout, scream and generally show the rest of the pool that we love Christmas, our club and the friendship we enjoy.

Hope to see you all there.

Sun 26th Nov – Melville Masters LiveLighter Club Challenge

The 2017 LiveLighter Club Challenge campaign finished on a warm

Sunday morning at Melville Aquatic Centre on Sunday November 26th

for the annual Melville Masters Challenge Series Event. We had a team

of 8 swimmers registered but this was reduced to 7 during warm up,

unfortunately Gill was struck down by a stomach bug and had to watch

from the stands ☹ Most of us had to reacquaint ourselves with the pool

competition format and a 50m pool (it’s such a long way to the end!)

after such a long break between the last club challenge and having to

deal with being in open water swimming mode.

At the end of the day we finished 7th out of 17 clubs with 50 points,

another solid result. There were many great swims for the day, the

standout performance goes to Andy “Superfish” Johnson who won all

three of his events for max points! Although there were no pb’s, there

were 6 new age group club records set with Lexie setting two, Heather

smashing her own 50m breaststroke record by over 8 seconds and

Graham setting 3, which included knocking off Fettes 100m free from

2012 and smashing his own 100m backstroke record by nearly 13

seconds. Our men’s relay team in the 4 x 50m men’s medley, Graham,

Chas, Andy and Colin set a new club record for the 200-239 Age group,

well done team!

REGULAR ARMADALE MASTERS OCEAN SWIMMERS. RAMOS REPORT FREMANTLE PORT BEACH SWIM 2 OCT 2017

The Port beach swim is a favourite of the Ramos group, it almost always

provides perfect conditions, and this morning was no exception.

The wind was a gentle breeze, the sun was shining, the water flat as a pool

with excellent clarity affording magnificent visibility.

Several hundred swimmers arrived and registered for the different swim

distances available. A 1.25 km rectangular course gave swim distance

choices of 1.25, 2.5 and 5 km distances. This year the course and distances

were different in order to conform with the latest Swimming WA programs.

As usual the Ramos team was spread amongst the different distances with our

Head Coach Jeff leading by example, opting to test his skills with the 4 lap 5

km course. What a great effort, and well done Jeff.

A big welcome to Donovan our newest member: Our Don smashed the 2.5 km

course despite a big Xmas party hangover.

Ramos was well represented by the following swimmers;

Heather and Charles Croft, Gillian and Collin, Liz and Hans, Ross, Jeff, Greg,

Donovan, Graham Hicks, Jacquie and Fettes.

All completed the swims with the following exceptional results;

Graham Hicks and Donovan came 1st in their age groups

Gillian came second in her age group

Colin, Fettes and Charles all placed 3rd in their age groups

Hans 4th in his.

It is worth noting that all other members came between 5th and 8thoverall in

their respective age groups. This is an amazing statistic and shows the quality

of Armadale coaches, training and swimmers.

On a personal note if you check the times between the Super fish Gilly and the

fat boy you can see how closely we swim, this all bears well for our Port to

Pub Rottnest swim duo next year, with neither being able to claim they swam

further.

As usual the swimmers and supporters enjoyed a great breakfast after, sorry

Jeff, we could not wait.

Any swimmers who think they would like to take the challenge and swim in

the ocean, please have a chat to one of the regulars, most swims have a 500 m

intro swim, so it is a great place to start.

Greg.

“THE SEA, ONCE IT CASTS its SPELL, HOLDS ONE IN IT’S NET OF

WONDER FOREVER”

We are planning more Saturday/Sunday Beach swims after the Festive Season. Stay tuned.

A great Presentation Evening was had by all. Here are the award winners followed by a few photos, mainly of Jeff:
