WALCOTT WOMEN’S 2016 WINTERWARMTH PROGRAM HAS KICKED OFF!!
Due to the needs of children in our community, Walcott Women arecontinuing our program to help keep kids safe and warm in the wintermonths! Our Winter Warmth Program is reaching out to help ensure thekids of our community are properly clothed so they can enjoy all thehappy things that these cold months bring. We are beginning our pro-gram earlier than in previous years to ensure the children are preparedwhen the cold weather arrives!
We work confidentially with the Walcott School Nurse in finding thenames of those children in greatest need of our assistance. The familieswe help will be provided with items such as: coats, hats, mittens, snowpants, shoes, boots, underwear, socks, hoodies and warm blankets.
Our community provides great support to our program by choosingmittens and purchasing the requested item. Our mitten trees are locatedat the Walcott Bank and Calvary Pre-School. We are also asking for anymonetary contribution that we could put towards leftover purchases thatwill need to be made.
**Our program will include 32 children this year which is a largeincrease over previous years so we greatly appreciate your considerationof donating to this much needed program.
For any questions you have about our program, please contactJennifer Schaeffer at (563) 570-0582. Thank you in advance for makinga difference for many kids in our community!
Sincerely,Walcott Women

DID YOU KNOW THAT THE SCOTT COUNTYLIBRARY SYSTEM HAS A SPECIAL CLUB FOR ITSPATRONS ONLY? It’s called the Bestseller Club andyou can get on the waiting list for popular fictionmonths before the books hit the shelves. Just fill out aform at your local Scott County Library station andreturn it there. When the books become available, theyare sent out in random order to club members at theirchosen libraries. If you receive more than you can read, you can cancel the hold or ask to have it sent to yourlibrary later. Selections are new, previously unreleased, fiction titles, and sometimes Large Print versions areavailable. You can check out what’s coming out athttp://sclsbestsellersclub.wordpress.com . There arealso many more book suggestions listed in the archivesat that website.
When you begin your holiday shopping, pleaseremember that our library has many almost new, popu-lar books for sale, in hardback and paperback, at theridiculously low prices of 50 and 25 to give as gifts. The money raised is used for our story time projects onFridays.
Our wonderful story teller, Pat Kellett, will bedeparting for warmer temperatures soon but story timewill continue on Friday mornings from 10:30-11:15with stories, crafts or music, and refreshments. Ourmany regular attendees and I want to thank her forentertaining us over the past several months.
On November 7, the Walcott Book Club will discussThe Storied Life of A.J. Fikry, by Gabrielle Zevin. It isa book with humor, romance, a touch of suspense, butmost of all love. The next book if A Man Called Ove, byFredrik Backman, to be discussed on Monday,December 5. This is a charming book about a “curmud-geon with staunch principles, strict routines, and ashort fuse” which is “hysterically funny”. (KirkusReviews)

MESSAGE FROM PASTOR AL:"'You shall love the Lord your God with all your
heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.' Thisis the greatest and first commandment. And a second islike it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' Onthese two commandments hang all the law and theprophets." (Matt 22:37-40)
As Christians, these words drive us to seek God inthe World, to understand God’s purpose for our individ-ual and corporate existence, and to find where Jesus is atwork and run to that place. We seek to love God with allthat we are; so, we are not long content with limited, occasional, or lukewarm faith. We want more; more waysto do good works, more ways to meet more and moreother workers in God’s Kingdom, more and more oppor-tunities to participate by the power of the Holy Spiritwith God’s purpose for creation. All we want is tochange the WORLD.
Do you feel the same? Do you have similar goals? Weshould be working together. Come see what we’re up to,or ask us to come join you on one of your projects. It’sall good.
