Dear Brothers and Sisters, Membersand Friends of the Hill UnitedPresbyterian Church:

Through our Ghana Mission Partnership, we

have a relationship with the Churches in theBubiashie District of the EvangelicalPresbyterian Church in Accra, Ghana, which isthe Capital of the nation.

We have raised funds over the past few yearsto provide scholarships for young Christianwomen in three congregations.

This year, forty-six grants were madethrough a Committee in the Ghanaian Church inAccra. These young, Christian women, as theyfurther their education at Secondary Schools,Colleges, University, and Graduate Schools aregrateful to God for these scholarships whichGod is leading us to provide.

The past two years, the Hill Church has been

able to provide about six thousand dollars eachyear to help in this educational work of ministry.

Our hope is to reach that goal of sixthousand dollars this year of 2015 as well. Wehave about a month before the funds are sent.

At this time, we are about 800 hundreddollars away from that goal.

As God leads you, keep the GhanaianMission Partnership in your prayers andpossibly in your monetary giving.

Update from the Forward in Faith Task ForceThe Forward in Faith Task Force was commissioned by the Session to develop suggestions for a long

term plan for Hill Church’s ministries and programs. Its work is a continuation of assessment and plannin

efforts that started with the 2002 Ministry Audit and continued with the 2008 Special Committee.

The Forward in Faith Task Force wishes to thank the members of the congregation who completed an

returned the Congregational Survey. Seventy-three surveys were completed and returned. The Task Forcehas begun reviewing the information from these surveys. Once a preliminary review has been completed,the Task Force will schedule some focus group meetings on topics of interest to the congregation.

You may also share your opinions or concerns personally with any of the Forward in Faith Task Forcemembers. Those members include: Laraine McCrea, Pat Brennen, Lauren McElhaney, Barb Graham, PegDumbaugh, Patti Donaldson, Cathy Zarnick, Anne Miller, the Rev. Clark Sawyer and Louise Evans.

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT

MISSION CO WORKER FUNDING IN JEOPARDY An e-mail was received from Joshua Heikkila in Early

July. He expressed great concern for the strong possibility that a number of mission co-workers would have to

pulled back from their assignments at year’s end due to a continuing lack of funding for the mission field. (This

predicament could also affect Barry and Shelly Dawson). The overall giving for missions has continued to

decline in recent years. Both Joshua and the Dawsons are currently in the USA to talk about their work and to

garner more support. On July 21st, the Ghana Task Force will visit with Joshua at the Mars Old Union Church

Since this event will be after our newsletter deadline, we hope to bring information to you in August.

NURSING STUDENT REPORTS FROM GHANA Anita Nyalemegbe a student at Community Health

Nursing training in Navrongo (and daughter of the Tsokome Catechist) sent this message: ‘

It is a great honor to write this letter. I greet you in the name of Christ Jesus our Lord. I thank you for yo

help and prayers in my life. I was really happy when I received your letter with the Christmas card and I am

very grateful. May God richly bless you all.

Please my name was not added to the list of other recipients of our scholarship this time. Ms. Delali Geye

and Ms. Abigail Amenudzi from Tsokome received their own.

Being in school is a very great experience and by the grace of God and your prayers studies are perfect. I am v

sorry my letter has been delayed as the letter came home when I was in school. May the good Lord continue t

give you grace and long life. Thank you. Yours faithfully, Anita’

This student is quite a distance from her home. Navrongo is in the Upper Northeast Region of Ghana, about te

miles from the border with Burkina Faso and about 600 miles from Anita’s home.

By early September we will be sending scholarship money to the Bubiashie committee for distribution. Please

make a point to contribute by the end of August so that we will have a meaningful amount to send. Recall tha

46 students were helped this past school year. Thank you for your great love for education for these young

Christian women.

PRAYER CONCERNS CONTINUE Please continue to keep the Bubiashie District churches, Bernard Dad

chairperson of the Bubiashie Scholarship Committee, as well as the students, and Joshua Heikkila, the West

Africa Liaison for the PC(USA), in your prayers.

Church World Service Mission TripEach October, Presbyterian Women of Beaver/Butler Presbytery take a bus trip to New Windsor, Md

to work on kit processing or SERRV workrooms. On October 6th, we will leave early and on the way wewill visit Bedford Springs, Summer White House for President James Buchanan. Lunch is included atBedford, Ed’s Steak House. One evening there will be a short worship and hymn sing and the other will

fun night and ice cream. Cost of the trip includes bus fare, seven meals, room, and tip for the driver.Shared rooms (2 per room) with private bath cost is $225. Arrive home on October 8th in the evening. Ifyou have any questions and have an interest call Bea Welch at 724-482-4834.

Every year Hill Church is asked to support the work of the Beaver-ButlerPresbytery, the Synod of the Trinity and the General Assembly of the PresbyterianChurch USA. This support is made through a per-capita assessment of churchmembers. This assessment has been used for over 150 years to fund the essentialwork of the Presbyterian Church.

As we have done in past years, we are inviting members to the Hill Church family of faith to contributethe support of the shared work of the Presbyterian Church USA. The per-capita assessment for 2015

$39.93 per member which includes all those who have been baptized and have made their professionfaith. For example, a single member would contribute $39.93, a couple who are both members woucontribute $79.86, a couple with one confirmed child would contribute $119.79 and so on.

For your convenience in making this offering, a special blue envelope has been included in your regubox of envelopes, appearing between the January 25 th and the February 1st envelopes. Or you may mthe memo line of your check “per -capita” and this offering will be properly credited to your givstatement.

As of 7/26/15 we have collected $4,182.92. Thank you for your continued generosity and support.

The committee will provide hot dogs with a

choice of toppings, desserts, and drinks.

ATTENTION: All over 18 who love and work with children

As you may know, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has changed its requirements for who

needs to obtain background checks and clearances when working with children under 18. In

the past, only paid staff and teachers working with children needed checks and clearances.

But now anyone - paid or volunteer - who has direct teaching or caring contact with children

under 18 MUST receive the appropriate checks and clearances.

What does this mean for you? If you are involved in a ministry of teaching, care for, or have

adult responsibilities for children under 18, you must get the following checks and clearances.

If you are over 18 and serve in a ministry as a volunteer that has any direct contact with

children, you must obtain:

1. The PA State Criminal History Report

2. The PA Child Abuse History

3. Provide Hill Church either a notarized affidavit stating that you have lived in

Pennsylvania for the last ten years or an FBI Criminal History Report if you

have lived in the PA for less than 10 years.

There is no cost for the clearances except for a notary fee for the affidavit or a fee for the FBI

Clearance.

Information packets and forms can be obtained from the church office or use the forms

attached to the August newsletter.

It is essential that anyone who needs to complete the clearance forms do so immediately.

There is bound to be a backlog at the state level to get approvals.

If you need help completing the form there will be help sessions August 16 and 23 at 10 AM

in the Hall Memorial Lounge and after worship in the fellowship hall.

Please return all completed forms to the church office for mailing.

The Christian Education committee has set a deadline of August 31 to get all needed

clearances submitted. If you already have clearances from a place of employment, please

bring a copy to the church for our files.
