The Y10’s were privileged to receive a wellness class from Michael Townsend Williams, Author of Do Breathe, inventor of the Breathe Sync App for iphone and personal coach

He talked and gave practical ways like controlling breathing to practise what he calls mindfulness. The benefits of mindfulness are less stress, more

productivity, improved focus, being more relaxed, happier mood, better sleep, better relationships, enhanced creativity which we hope will allow our students to be more successful in their education and lead happier lives. A Warm Invite to INA’s Awards Assemblies – Thursday 25th March 2016

On Thursday 25th March we will be holding our end of spring term awards assemblies. This is an important opportunity for the staff, students, governors and parents/carers to formally celebrate our students’ achievements at the end of the autumn term. There will be a separate assembly for each year group. Please note the times as follows:

Year 10 11.05-11.50amYear 9 11.05-11.50amYear 8 12.00-12.45pmYear 7 12.00-12.45pm

At the assemblies we will be presenting awards in recognition of students’ academic progress and attainment, personal progress and the development of their BRIDGES dispositions. Excellent attendance and punctuality will also be celebrated. It is also a great opportunity for you to see some examples of the activities and events your child has been participated in this term.

We believe that it is important that every student is represented by a parent at the Awards assembly for their year group and would like to invite one parent to attend on behalf of the family. If you would like to attend, please ask your son/daughter to collect a ticket for the awards assembly from his/her form tutor. Please request your ticket by Monday 14th March.

Due to limited capacity, we are unable to accommodate very many additional family members. However, if you would like a second place, please notify the school office and we will do our best to allocate an additional ticket.

I look forward to seeing you on the 25th March.

Jo SpencerVice Principal.

PE AT ISAAC NEWTON ACADEMYNews & ResultsYear 7 Football vs King Solomon

The Year 7 football team faced their toughest opponents this year in King Solomon. They were a well organised team with players representing various clubs outside of school. INA showed a real desire and perseverance to compete for every ball. This was rewarded by an even score line at the end of the first half. INA knew the second half would be tougher as we were now attacking up a slope, Jack Lavin made some incredible saves to keep the score a draw but unfortunately couldn’t keep out a strong strike from the King Solomon striker. INA’s head briefly went down after this goal which led to another quick goal being scored; however before the game came to a close INA lifted their heads, showed great character and Sudais Khan went onto score in the closing minutes making it 2-1. INA’s Haider Rafiq was also denied a late goal due to a very close offside call.

Badminton London Youth Games

For the first time in INA history, we had a team that made it to the London Youth Games to represent Redbridge against all other boroughs around London. INA’s Badminton team finished ranked 5th in London which is an incredible achievement. With a tough first draw against Sutton who then went onto the final, we were unfortunate not to get another borough which would have seen us progress further. The whole team collaborated well from start to finish and represented INA to an amazing standard. Well done!

Year 8 Football Vs King Solomon

The Year 8 football team remain unbeaten this term; however the 3-3 draw left the team very disappointed as the last minute goal from a set piece could have been avoided. The students started off very slowly, conceding an early goal from a corner before then coming to life to start working as a team and scoring the goals that came from their hard work. 2 goals from Abdi Omar and the 3rd from Zayd Selant, who was doing a remarkable job out of position higher up the pitch. However the last minute goal from King Solomon made it a disappointed trip back to INA.

Year 9 Basketball vs Seven Kings

The Year 9 Basketball team showed incredible enthusiasm for games and training even after the season had finished. They wanted to be sure they can make the step up to the A league. A friendly fixture was organised against Seven Kings, an A league team, to see if they could make the step up. With the final score 64-14 to

INA, the Year 9 team have proven they are more than capable for the step up to A league. All players are reaping the benefits from attending training before school, lunch time club and all being available for games.

Isaac Newton Academy’s Spring Spectacular will be held on Wednesday 16th March 6pm-7pm in the sports hall. Tickets are available now from S02. Performers arrive at 5.30pm, audience from 5.40pm

• You must have a ticket – no matter the age of children• Doors will be closed and no entrance will be allowed from 6.10pm so please arrive promptly• Enrichment is cancelled• Performers need to bring reply slips back to Mr Beattie at S02 asap

How we build learning power and develop character at Isaac Newton Academy

“We build too many walls and not enough bridges.” Isaac Newton

The secondary BRIDGES programme commences on Monday 14th September. BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a student's character and learning power and enable them to grow into well rounded individuals and resilient learners.

On a two weekly cycle throughout the year, Year 7 and 8 students are introduced to one or two new habits of mind or learning characteristics that will permeate throughout the curriculum. This will take place through a range of interactive activities. In addition, the students will experience BRIDGES learning objectives in each and every lesson throughout Isaac Newton Academy. Year 9 BRIDGES lessons will focus on strengthening certain BRIDGES learning characteristics through exploration of PHSE topics and themes.

Each fortnight you will find top tips in the newsletter of ways of supporting your child to develop the BRIDGES habits of mind and learning characteristics within the home.

Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and ability to achieve their full potential.

At Isaac Newton Academy every student is set the target of 100% attendance. We know that attendance has a direct link to progress, and would urge you to really consider if a day off school is necessary.

A huge well done to 7N, 8C and 8I for 100% attendance last week.
