May 13, 2011 #4Who will be rollin in the dough after 100 laps?

This past Friday night was the night for the Super Stocks to

shine and they didn’t let the fans down. The 50 lap event surely gave them what they paid to see. Plenty of excitement and some darn good racing. Mobile’s Okie Mason and Jesse Reid made sure the fans didn’t go home disappointed as they raced back and forth for the lead, lap after lap, with Mason coming home with the big win.

It just wouldn’t be rac-ing without at least one

scary moment and it came when Mike Moore blew his engine and the entire car went up in a blind-ing ball of fire for a couple of seconds then hit the wall in turn one. Everyone was glad to see Moore exit the car with no burns or injuries and I personally would like to thank him for not flaming up like he did until he got a few yards past me in the flagstand!

The Sportsmen will have their special extended laps race in

August. Also in August, on the 26th, the smash and crash show, a Demo-lition Derby, if we can get cars and drivers to enter the crash fest.

This year has brought more excite-ment to the fans every week and

by all means don’t look for it to slow down tonight as the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Super Late Models return for the second of five Blizzard Series races for the Papa John’s 100. Look for a great field of Super Late Models with some MIA faces who have been absent so far this year. To name a few

crowd favorites you are seeing this evening are points leader

Bubba Pollard, Donald and Johanna Long, Jeff Fultz, along with Enfinger, Grill, Wilson and a host of others. This one has the potential to

be even more exciting than the first one back in March.

Also on the card will be Modifieds, Sportsman and Bombers.

The Super Late’s will move on to Mobile International Speedway

tomorrow night for the second half of the double header weekend for the Sunoco Racing Series Miller Lite 100.

What is it? A half dozen or more drivers in big old cars who bash into each other until there is just one car left moving. That’s a Demolition Derby. The last one was about a generation ago. Find an old car that runs, no reinforcing the front. You take out the glass, strap in, crank her up and let it rip. Steam billowing from busted radiators, parts falling off, and mostly driving backwards is all part of winning the $500 top prize. It’s back August 26th. Start scouting around for an old heap. Lincolns and Buicks are good! We’re look-ing for sponsors and drivers.

It’s the event the kids look forward to all year, the annual bicycle races. We don’t know if any of the bikers graduated from grunt-ing to gas engines, but we do know

they all enjoy it. Just look at that smile in the 5 year old and younger group.

Every kid gets a trophy and a special treat. Bring the bike and

helmet, and register inside the gate. Age groups are: Up to 5; 6 to 9; 10 to 12, and 13 years and older.
