KURUNJANG PRIMARY SCHOOL ~ “Learning Together” NEWSLETTER 38 - 2017 Thursday 30 th November, 2017 PRINCIPAL’S REPORT I ended my newsletter item last week hoping to see as many parents as possible at the school fete last Friday. Thank you to all who came and supported the children’s and PFA stalls and activities. What a great afternoon! Every year the fete requires extensive planning from the beginning of the year, the majority of which is conducted by our hardworking and passionate PFA members led this year for the first time by PFA and School Council President Liz Bajada. By the time that the last Friday in November comes around, the PFA and Wendy McCall have every detail and contingency considered and planned. Even with the humid afternoon, the total raised was a spectacular $6900!!! The PFA have always consulted with the students and staff at KPS for items to be purchased for the school and last year the money purchased new large line marked games for our asphalt areas which have provided additional fun activities for the children at recess and lunchtimes. As has become a tradition in the past 2 years, the PFA have this year again purchased the Graduation bears for the year 6s, for which all our children will benefit, if not this year, when their time comes around to transition from Primary School to Secondary School. We will inform you of the other equipment or resource purchases from the money raised this year. I wish to thank, very much, Liz Bajada and all members of the PFA for their tireless work for the school with the fete; to all the staff and students for managing each of the stalls and last but not least, to all the parents, carers and friends who attended the fete with the children or supported with the provision of spending money for them. I hope you enjoy some of the snaps of the day. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Tuesday was the second transition day for our 2018 Foundation students and was themed as the very hungry day where the children brought a snack as familiarization to the routines of eating and the types of food for snack/lunch when at school. The first session was themed their favourite colour session and the third session next Thursday (7 th Dec) is themed the specialist subject day where the children will have a taste of our Phys Ed, Visual Art and Performing Arts programs. The final transition session will be on the State Wide Orientation day on Tuesday 12 th December. On this day the Foundation children will know their room and teacher for 2018. It is only in the event that a teacher assigned to Foundation is transferring from another school and may not be able to attend the orientation day, that the teacher is not present on the day. Tuesday 12 th is also the State Wide Orientation day for the 2018 Year 7 students. Unlike the Foundation students this is for the whole day so the current Year 6s will be attending their secondary school for the day. They must wear their school uniform as enrolled students come from a number of Primary schools. Transition and Orientation days/activities are as the name suggests for the purpose of familiarizing the students with a new setting, new routines, new people. You would be aware of the difference that exists in how children manage change, even within your own family. There are many factors which contribute to a child’s ability to manage change but one of the most influential is how the adults in their lives manage change. If they feel that you are unhappy or worried about them starting school or secondary school, they are more likely to be unhappy or worried themselves. Year 6 Graduation is in the evening of Orientation Day (12th Dec). Foundation Graduation is the next day (13 th Dec) at 2.10 pm and the Year F-2 concert is on the Thursday (14 th Dec) so much is happening which are the celebrations of the children’s respective year/s at school. As with the other school events recently and throughout the year we hope that you enjoy these times with your child/ren. ~ Learning Together PFA NEWS If you would like to assist the PFA in any way please leave your details at the office or contact Elizabeth Bajada on 0404 525 975 or [email protected]. The PFA is a great way to be involved in your school community as well as make some new friends CHRISTMAS RAFFLE The PFA is again running their annual Christmas raffle and is asking for donations to include in hampers. Please drop any donation off at the office. Donators will go into a draw to win a prize.
