The feelings of rapture as the end of an era draws nigh tempered by the harsh reality that this has been one of the most disjointed and difficult years they have had to endure. A number of Year 12 students have stated that they are not ready to leave! We wish our students well for their remaining time at St Brigid’s and hope that their focus and effort never wane from the ultimate purpose of many long years of secondary education. It has been life-giving to be at school this week, with some normality returning to everyone’s life. The presence of face masks and social distancing are stark reminders of the time in which we live, but the resilience of the St Brigid’s College community members in their positivity at being back together has been wonderful. I thank families for your enormous efforts throughout remote learning and for having students appropriately attired and supported to return to school this week. I congratulate our amazing students and staff on the spirit with which they have embraced the return to onsite learning. As families, it is important that we continue to remember the volume of change 2020 has thrust upon us. Returning to school and concentrating on our relationships and our learning requires a building up again of our social/emotional stamina. Be prepared for young people to display different expressions of fatigue as they readjust to life at school. If we can display calm and reinforce our love and affection as a constant, to counter the other changes taking place in their lives, we will provide valuable support in another time of change. Remember also, that the St Brigid’s College staff team are here to help, and if your child is finding the return to school difficult, please talk to us, and we will see if we can make this current change easier. YEAR 12 2020 Our amazing Year 12 cohort now enter a very important time in their final year of school and their lives. This is a time of extraordinary pressure for them as they try to refocus and finish the year off in a positive frame of mind. Their teachers have worked tirelessly to ensure constant support and students have responded to this well. The graduation class of 2020 has experienced a final year of secondary education like no other, with the constant uncertainty of what is to happen next. MARGARET SIMONDS BURSARIES

These bursaries honour the memory of Margaret Simonds and we give recognition to her visionary work in the adult educational field. The late Margaret Simonds was the founder of On Track Learning in the late 1980s and she established a network of local literacy coordinators around the region to provide volunteer tutors to literacy students. Margaret possessed the following qualities and attributes: Faith, Leadership, Innovation, Inner strength, Vision, Perseverance, Communication, Lateral thinking, Humour and Enterprise.

The recipients of these bursaries will possess and demonstrate these attributes and qualities. Margaret Simonds bursaries cover tuition fees up to the value of $1000 for students enrolled at St. Brigid’s for the 2021 year. These bursaries are available to any currently enrolled student from Year 7 through to Year 11 in 2020 except those students who have received these bursaries within the last three years. Application forms can be obtained from our website and must be returned by Monday, 2nd November. Late applications will not be accepted.

SUNSMART

Our clear expectation is that all students must own a College hat and wear this hat at recess and lunch-times. I urge parents to ensure that their children possess an approved hat or purchase one from Lowes in the Plaza. These hats are not meant to be a “fashion statement” but a functional protection against the sun.

COLLEGE ADVISORY COUNCIL

The AGM of our College Advisory Council will be held in the boardroom on Wednesday, October 21st commencing at 7.00pm.

STUDENT FREE DAYS

There will be no classes on next Friday, October 23rd (Grand Final Public holiday) and on Tuesday, 3rd November (Melbourne Cup Day)

RETURN TO SCHOOL | Wherever they go, no matter the weather, our students bring a little sunshine with them. It has been fantastic to have our St B's family all back together again at school!
