Our skilled and devoted staff are already planning and preparing for your students in order to have as normal a schooling experience while still meeting COVID guidelines. We are a caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.

Each year brings positive change. This includes an addition to our teaching staff. We are delighted to welcome Mr Robert McIntosh –Teacher Mathematics.

I would encourage everyone to check out the calendar on our website for details of planned events.

A great deal of time, effort and thought has gone into the process of student placement for the 2021 school year. Careful consideration was given to input from staff and families as well as student learning styles. Classrooms have been balanced academically and socially. Our class lists are structured to provide equitable class sizes at each year level. Moving students is difficult without causing imbalances and inequities.

All of our staff work hard to make school a positive experience for all students. Maclean High School is eagerly looking forward to enriching your student’s life. Thank you for understanding that it can take a few weeks for a student to adjust to a new year, peer group and teachers.

Thank you to all who are helping prepare for the new school year. Your commitment to ensuring that Maclean High School remains a celebrated and successful school is welcomed. I eagerly look forward to greeting students and families again. It remains an honour and privilege to serve as your Principal. Together, I know we will make this school year one of growth and achievement for all students.

Parent involvement is a vital key to the education of students at school. We encourage parents to monitor student progress regularly. We send out progress reports and report cards throughout the year. Parents are welcome to set up appointments to meet and discuss the progress of their children. We are currently encouraging individual contact with parents and staff via our Sentral portal.

The entire staff at Maclean High School is working towards the same goal - provide an opportunity for each student to succeed and to complete requirements for achievement. We welcome your suggestions and questions. Consider being a part of our school P&C, school canteen and participate in the exciting changes and further development of our programs. Mr Greg Court, Principal.

Parents and students please note:Many students use Eftpos to pay for lunch or recess at the canteen. Some students tap using their phone, with card details stored.

Once the new Yondr pouches start being used in March, you won’t be able to use your phone to purchase from the canteen - so maybe start making sure your card is with you and get into the habit of using it at the canteen.

Mrs Sarah Armstrong, President Maclean High School P&C Association.

Welcome back to 2021 from the P&C AssociationHi Everyone,

We hope you have all had a wonderful summer - suddently we are back and getting ready for school again.

Penny is back in the canteen, and is ready to open to all students, but we just don’t have enough volun-teers. At present, we are having to pay extra hours to have the necessary help, but this is not sustainable. Can you, or someone in your family or network, spare a few hours to help? No experience necessary! It’s fun and friendly. Please contact Penny on 0403 283580.

Mrs Sarah Armstrong, President Maclean High School P&C Association.

Message from Penny, Canteen ManagerHello to all parents,

I would like to introduce myself. I am Penny and I am the Manager of the Maclean High School P&C Canteen. I would like to welcome all new students and their families as well as all returning students to another new year here at Maclean High School.

Our canteen provides a wide range of varied, tasty and healthy food and drink options. We also cater for gluten free and Vegetarian diets.

We have weekly specials Monday to Thursday and on Friday we have a pop-up special which is fun and healthy. There is a new special salad bowl each week and at breakfast we are now offering chia puddings with different flavours each week as well as our extensive every day menu.

The Maclean High School P&C are grateful to our wonderful canteen volunteer helpers and rely on them to be able to deliver heatlhy lunches to students each school day.

We are always happy to welcome new volunteers. If you are able to give any amount of time, please contact me on 0403 283580 or contact the school on 6645 2244 or just drop in and say hello.

Thank you, Penny Lane, Canteen Manager.

Literacy Tip for this week:

Students starting high school get bombarded with new words as their learning becomes more and more specialised. I will try to explain some of these.

What is a metaphor?

Metaphors make a resemblance between one thing and another by suggesting that one thing is actually the other (sounds confusing- look at examples!)

“My fingers are ice!” “This room is a pigsty.” “My car is an oven!”

Mrs Linda Martin, Relieving Deputy Principal.
