Principal’s Message
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compli-ment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” ― Leo Buscaglia During the month of May we celebrate the virtue of com-passion. Valuing an awareness of the lives of others, and developing a deep understanding of the heart is at the forefront of learning and teaching at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic School. It is through daily prayers both school wide, and in individual classrooms, that students learn how the power of compassion transforms and brings each and every one of us closer to God. The many extra and co-curricular activities that occur throughout the school year, teach students how each of us are unique, how blessed we are to have one another, and how we can make a difference in the world. But more importantly, our students learn that being compas-sionate means accepting others regardless of their dif-ferences, seeking and giving forgiveness. Through the act of forgiveness they learn to make themselves open to a change of heart which in turn, allows them to feel what others feel, and to give others what they need to change their own lives. Compassion, like all of our vir-tues, is a virtue best experienced and shared. May also brings the EQAO test for Gr. 3 and 6 students and the completion of CAT 4 test for Gr. 2, 5 and 7 stu-dents. These assessments will provide a snapshot of how our students are performing. We encourage par-ents to make sure their children are prepared for learn-ing by arriving to school well rested, properly fed and ready to take on new challenges. Every day is a day to make sure your child is prepared to learn. The months of May/June simply put more of a focus on this preparation as we move into the testing months. And compassion, like all of our virtues, is a virtue best experienced and shared. Happy Mother’s Day to all our mothers, and best wish-es to everyone for an excellent two months ahead.
