The students, which make up the majority of the Weston Estate based Squadron, had especially invited Mr Billings to attend the ceremony to show how proud they are were of their achievements which involved passing skills assessments and learning drill. The cadets performed a polished full drill and promises to serve God, the Queen and their country. The Cadets formally signed membership documents and received badges from the leader for their uniform. Mr Billings was very impressed with the discipline shown in the drill and also with the conversation he had with the students where they spoke in detail about the values they were learning, and the content of the ATC skills lessons. Students in Year 7 and 8 have raised a total of £1188.10 for our Clin- ic project in the poor mountain village of Varusanadu in Tamil Nadu, South India. They have achieved this through their business projects - setting up and running co-operative businesses - as part of their enter- prise learning activities. The whole evening was brilliant, full of variety, wonderful song choices and amazing talent. It was a credit to you and your staff. Attendance matters at All Hallows

Over the last week of College attendance was as follows: Year 7 - 95.9% (up 0.7% on last week) Year 8 - 96.0% (up 1.8%) Year 9 - 92.4% (down 0.5%) Year 10 - 92.4% (up 0.1% on last week)

The average for the week has increased to 0.6% to 94.2% with the cumulative average since September still 94.6%. We aim for 97%.

Parents are politely reminded to avoid absence unless it is absolutely necessary. Holidays will not be authorised from 1st September 2013 under new legislation on all English schools. Requests for holidays must still be made in writing to the appropriate Key Stage leader (Mrs Garvey KS5, Mr Blades KS4 and Mr Diamond KS3), but in the vast majority of cases they will be unauthorised.

Medical absence will continue to require medical proof and appointments should be made, where possible, outside of the College day. Please consider if a whole day of absence is absolutelty necessary for medical appointments, or can part of the day be missed instead?

The link between attendance and achievement is well researched and documented and students should be aiming for an attendance rate of no les than 97% over the year. Thank you for your continued support with this importance is-sue.

All Hallows is against bullying

Each year the College uses the ideas of the College Council to promote anti-bullying. This year over 300 students signed a pledge to not use Facebook, as well as other social networking sites, for one school week to make our stand against cyber-bullying. Each lunch time one Year Learning Leader can be found in the office of Mrs Connor, Deputy Principal, should students need to speak to someone discreetly about bullying. The College has a dedicated anti-bullying email address ([email protected]) for all students to use should they wish to report bullying against them or others. This email link can be found via our College website.

The vast majority of students here at All Hallows uphold our Christian values and ethos and never bully. On the rare occasions that bullying does happen we need students to speak up - either to their Form Tutor, Year Leader or any other member of staff they feel they can turn to. Please do let us know if your child is being bullied and we will try to help. Together we can stamp out all forms of bullying at All Hallows.
