Principal’s Pen Legacy The staff at Cornerstone join with me in taking this final opportunity to thank our school community for a wonderful 2013. With the Presentations Nights still fresh in our minds, and the theme of Legacy still ringing in our ears, we want to let our community know how grateful we are for the past year. We are grateful for the Year 12 students of 2013 and how they have completed their time with us in a way that blessed our youngest students. We pray that Cornerstone has left a lasting and positive impression on their lives and they will look back on these recent years with great fondness. We have enjoyed getting to know our Graduates, and delight in seeing the potential in them all to move on from here and make a mark on the world for the better. We are grateful for the amazing students we have the privilege of educating again in 2014, each with their own unique gifts and talents that we have the pleasure of helping uncover. We are grateful to you, the parents and grandparents, who give us the privilege of educating your children. But at the heart of it all, we are grateful for the presence of God in this place and the purpose He brings. It is what makes Cornerstone different - and when those from outside our community get to witness what we are about, it is often spoken of. This difference has been captured in a letter we received late last week from one of our Awards sponsors. He is a man without strong connections with the College, but who could sense that what we have here is something unique and special. In part, it read: ‘Last night I felt a unique privilege in being able to participate and share in some of the atmosphere that Cornerstone Christian College has developed within your community, parents and students. I attend a number of presentation evenings and ceremonies, each one in its own way is special. I can honestly say that your ceremony is the only one that I have been moved by .........I thought that the entire presentation was delivered to a group of friends, people who all knew each other and belonged together.’ That is so delightful to hear. The heart of Cornerstone is captured in those words, and as staff, we know that God’s love and how he inspires us to live is the reason for it. We desire to leave a lasting and positive legacy in the lives of your children. To all of you, the staff at Cornerstone hope and pray that the true meaning of Christmas may be a part of your celebrations this coming year. As the gifts are distributed from beneath your Christmas tree, may you remember most of all, the gift that Jesus is to us. He is a gift that allows us to live lives of meaning, and can propel us to leaving a transforming legacy to the world around us. But bigger than that, he gives us the opportunity to choose the most amazing gift of all - and that is eternal life. Our prayer is that this is the gift you will most treasure this Christmas season. this issue Teacher Allocations Awards Week Booklists PO Box 775 Grace Court Busselton WA 6280 p: (08) 9754 1144 f: (08) 9754 1142 e: [email protected] w: www.cornerstone.wa.edu.au www.cornerstone.wa.edu.au DATES to REMEMBER Thursday December 12 Final Day of College 2013 TERM 1 DATES Monday February 3rd to Friday April 11, 2014. 17 ISSUE 10th December 2013 NEWSLETTER A Ministry of Cornerstone Church of Christ Inc www.cornerstonebusselton.com CORNERSTONE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE Bruce

news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born

to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.’ Luke 2:10

Graduation and Awards NightsLast week, we had the opportunity to celebrate the performances and achievements of our students in our annual concerts, Awards Nights and Graduations.Student achievements have been enormous this year, both in the academic areas, as well, as the broader areas of service, community contribution, character, endeavour, sporting and more. These events give us the opportunity to recognise just some of the great outcomes achieved by your children. We recognise that so many other students are deserving of acknowledgement and over the course of the year, recognition is given at other assemblies and COGGs gatherings. For the staff who put together performances, we are very grateful. For the students who shone so beautifully in their performances, you blessed the audience enormously. For the parents who came and joined with our broader community on these nights, we thank you for helping us celebrate all that is great about Cornerstone. To our Graduates, in both Year 12 and Year 6, congratulations on completing these important phases of your education. Our prayer is that you will experience God’s richest blessings as you begin the next stage in your journey towards being all that God created you for.

Market Day 2013Market Day 2013 is now complete, and we can report that over $2800 was raised by our Primary School students in the two hour window we provided.

Their hard work will be used to provide life changing items and products to some of the poorest communities on earth through the Compassion organisation.Congratulations students and staff. Special thanks to our AMAZING parent body who supplied, assisted and purchased items on the day. We can’t do this without you.

Happy Christmas !The staff of Cornerstone wish to thank you for being such a blessing to us, and we pray that your Christmas season and summer break is a joy and time of refreshing. We look forward to seeing you all back here in February 2014.

ReportsStudent reports will be posted home at the end of this week, and included will be a letter outlining school information and requirements for 2014. Make sure you take a look!

Last Study Tip for the Year - from Miss NeedhamReflections on Triumphs and TribulationsWith the end of the year fast approaching it is a good time for students to reflect on their approach to school this year. If you wait until next year

you will have forgotten what you did this year and what you need to change for next year. Students in Year 9 & 10 will be completing a short SWOT

analysis on their personal approach to school and learning in class. You may like to discuss this with your child & help them to set some goals for

2014. Other students can use the template provided on the Study Skills website.

In these school holidays it is important for students to have a decent break , recharge and spend time with friends and family doing things they

enjoy. Certainly if students are weak in areas such as literacy or numeracy, some practice on a regular basis over the holidays would not go astray.

There are many apps listed on the study skills handbook site that are useful (android apps now available too!) and bookshops and libraries also

have workbooks. It is essential however that Year 11 students spend some time these school holidays consolidating the work from Year 11, ensuring

study notes are up to date and they are organised and prepared for the challenges ahead in Year 12.

Students may find it useful to complete some of the study skills units over the holidays, particularly on their areas of weakness.
